I Don't Own Harry Potter
I sighed as I looked down at all the sleeping kids around me before looking back to the book in my hand, I was not about to spend the next ten hours pretending to be asleep, so I had, when everyone was asleep, mostly, transfigured a chair out of the conjured sleeping bag Dumbledore provided, and went on to read the sixth year transfiguration text, again, though I noted that the Prefects that were still up were giving me looks.
Half of them I practically had on staff, as they are the ones I have the most favors from, as they all either come to me for stuff like sleep potions and calming draughts and the like, or asking for advice on dealing with certain problems that they don'[t want a Professor to get involved in. Basically, I could tell most of them wanted to walk up to me and ask about it as I do my best to have an answer for everything and have yet to fail in that department.
But they were stationed and as such they didn't dare go against orders on such a fear inducing night. To be fair, my stance of boredom as I read a book I shouldn't even be able to understand at this age and time, which is kind of why I chose it to be honest, seventh year texts would be a bit much as that's N.E.W.T. level, but sixth year? Well for a known genius? Why not.
Though to be honest I wasn't really reading it, instead every couple moments I was using the book and my glasses to hide the movement of my eyes as I traced around the room. I was noting that a large amount of the awake students were looking at me and were really annoyed that I wasn't even bothering to act like I was a sleep like the rest of them it probably didn't help that I was in a chair looking bored out of my mind at the moment.
Though that's when I watched as Dumbledore and Snape walked back in and I watched as they both seemed to notice my presence of not even bothering to look like I gave a shit. Snape looked annoyed while Dumbledore looked highly amused, though after a moment as they both seemed to look over the students they started to speak. I didn't need to hear to know what they were taking about though so I just didn't bother with trying and instead found myself staring at a bit of text that was mentioning conjuration basics.
I had already read it before but it had been a while, it was talking about how this branch of transfiguration is based on the same principles, but it takes away the base, the thing that is changed. You have to replace that very important item with even more power and control, along with a lot more intent. I was paraphrasing, by a lot, that basic sentence I thought of actually in reality took up almost three pages of text.
I had more than enough power, that has really yet to be the issue, neither has intent, because if I want something I want it and that's always been more than enough for all of my spells. And at this point I would think I would have enough control over my magic for that not to be a problem, but it has always been one of my weakest links, even now when I've started wandless and nonverbal spells on wand based incantation spells which takes a lot of bloody skill and control.
So one would think that that would be enough when I use my wand and say the conjuration incantation. But I have yet to break through some wall to manage it all, it's like the patronum all over again but I can't see a way to cheat my way out of this one. Well the only thing left then is the path to insanity, trying it over and over again until something different happens.
That or maybe I could help train my magical control by figuring out even more nonverbal spells for my wand, it would kill two birds with one stone but it would take a little longer than I would think. Though I wouldn't care much about that, conjuration is really just a side project of mine at the moment as transfiguration is already that was all that I really needed as I'm hardly without anything to transfigure if I need it. Well things to think about at any rate.
"So before I decide that Black being out there trying to kill one of your lions is a bad thing, I have a feeling that you know more than you're letting on, anything I should now?" I think Blaise is getting to use to yearly murder plots and my knowledge and involvement in them. I mean he isn't wrong but still.
"Oh since you asked" Blaise suddenly looked like he would much rather not have asked and in fact seemed to be regretting his decision but he did ask so that's all there is to it.
"I think there's about a thirty-five percent chance that Siruis Black is innocent of all charges and the person who actually did it is in this castle at the moment" Blaise was now looking like he really shouldn't have asked and really didn't want to get caught up in this, which I did understand, I mean last year he only help me because I was in danger, now though this doesn't involve me, but it does involve my lions.
"And why you do think that?" I just shrugged thinking about how a board would be really helpful at the moment, I'm sure I could charm some pictures to make this a nice show and tell. Show and tell? Dear lord I need some sleep, without it my thoughts get really annoyingly muddled.
"A bunch of small things that doesn't line up. As in why Black didn't escape during Harry's first year here, why not before that? I know where he lives, it isn't that hard. I've already mostly figured out how he escaped anyway, he could have done it at anytime really. So he escaped this year for a reason but he's still at Hogswarts, and with that means he's going after someone, but not Harry. It's obvious"
He sighed, probably really wanting to ask a lot more question like: Why do I know where Harry lives, how did I manage to figure out how to escape Azkaban when I've never even been near it, and why would I think any of that would be obvious to anyone else. Instead of all that pointlessness he said instead.
"So what's you're stance on it then? Because I'd like to know if I'm going to have to look out for you" I looked up at him and seemed to think about it before shrugging and then said.
"Harry isn't in danger so I don't really care if Black kills someone, though I'll be looking into seeing it I can figure out who Black might be after. It would be unfortunate if he kills someone I can exploit" He was now looking at me in that way that says why did he bother asking another question that he knew would probably disturb him.
"Ok then, well I'm glad that I won't have to worry about you getting yourself kill this time around, at least this time it doesn't involving a massive bloody basilisk" I'm not going to tell him that I'm actually going after Siruis until after I get it all done, then he can yell at me some, probably try and hit me for endangering myself then not talk to me for maybe half a week then ask about how I knew about it all.
"Of course not, I don't see a reason to get involved at the moment" And with that comment he knows that their is a small chance that I might get involved and I can play the innocent card when this is over saying that I did, in fact, warn him about this maybe happening. Was that unfair? Yep, I just don't really care.
"Moment? No, I'm not having a repeat of first year were you held back until the last possible moment where you go out an do something incredibly idiotic" I blinked in mild shock that he's learned to read me that well before deciding that at this point I should just accept it and move on. Now how to talk my way out of this one.
"If I change my mind I'll let you know so you can worry about my safety an insistent amount" Though now that I'm paying attention, maybe he isn't the only one that's learned to read the other. I've always been pretty good at cold reading people but this is something a bit different, after all this entire conversation I've noticed every change in expression and knew exactly what it means, even predicting how he would react to my actions. Huh, I barely noticed that, I only did because he noticed, weird.
With that knowledge it made since that I could read his annoyance at that last remark. Which I knew from the very slight twitch of his right eyebrow, damn I'm kind of surprised that I never noticed that I was learning his micro-expressions. Well, I guess I'll use that knowledge for something, not sure how helping this skill is going to be useful as it was before as nothing really changes just because I know about it now.
I was sitting down in the common room at the moment, the only reason why I was reading in here at the moment is because Blaise is being annoying and saying that I have to actual spend time with my friends sometimes and as such I was sitting next to my Brokers and Blaise while reading my book. Though I noted something shift to the left of my vision. Turning my head slightly to see what it was, I blinked at the sight before my eyes widened as I shot out of my chair as Draco had just shouted out.
"Diffindo!"
Landing on my side, I threw out an empty hand and watched as his wand was ripped out of his grasp into my hand as Blaise had shot up and pulled out his own wand before shouting out.
"Stupefy!"
Watching as Draco slumped down onto the ground, I stood up and twirled Draco's wand in my hand and wondered what to do about this before shrugging as I pointed the item down at it's own master, well maybe not anymore, and said without the hint of hesitation I was feeling.
"Serpensortia"
I watched as the serpent shot out of the wand and looked around for a long moment before looking around and began to hiss at everything that moved. It was a bit amusing to listen to the male snake's words about how he hated us flesh-bags, it was funny though from the looks of panic that everyone was giving the snake I feel like being understand it was the only reason why I was enjoying this, still I knelt down and hissed.
"Would you mind doing me a favor mister snake?" The serpent looked up at me and I noted that if it could I'm he would blink at me in surprise, but lack of eyelids meant that he couldn't do such a thing. Still after a moment he answered.
"Of course, for a speaker it would be a pleasure to do you're bidding" I wonder if that's a normal reaction, it might just be that this one is of the submissive type, though it's not like I'm going to complain any about it, makes my life easier.
"Thank you, would you mind biting that one right there, the unconscious one" I don't much about different snake species but I do know some, and as such I recognized that the snake in my presence is a copperhead, the most common venomous snake in the world. Not overly dangerous, the poison would hardly kill him but that wasn't the point of this as I returned the snake back to wherever he had been previously.
Looking around the room for a long moment, I noted that everyone was looking at me in shock, after all this is the first public time I've spoken Parseltongue. I would have done this sooner but the opportunity never came up to show it off, this though, well it fell into my lap, which wasn't that a bit suspicious, after all I'm his greatest fear at the moment, why would he suddenly attack me, something else was going on, but I had to focus on the task at hand, so with that I looked around once more before saying.
"Anyone have anything they want to say to me?" Everyone seemed to as one shake their head no, so I just gave them all a smile before dropping it in an instant and said in a cold undercut tone that I noted made more than a few shudder.
"Then I hope would also won't be saying anything about this to anyone else as well" This was a loyalty test, I didn't really care about the rumor getting out, in fact I encouraged it, but this is to see how big my grip on Slytherin is, to see if they think they can get away with talking about it, and if they do, well I'll have to find out and do something about that, but for right now I just sat back down and ignored the eye roll Blaise gave me at my dramatics.
Though I ignored that for a different reason than one would think, something was still up with all this, I turned it into a power play but Draco did try to attack me, with no knowledge or real plan. It's like he was trying to fail. But why? The answer came to me as I caught glance of the magazine Theo was holding, it was on Quidditch, a game was coming up I think, Slytherin versus something, no idea who, I only knew that bit because Blaise wouldn't stop talking about it.
Judging from the fact that the weather was quite shit recently, well the logical conclusion is that Marcus Flint, the Slytherin team's captain wanted a way to not have to play and he just used me to harm his seeker so he doesn't have to play in that weather. Clever, but he made one fatal mistake, he thought I wouldn't find out that he tried to play me, with that I stood up and began to walk out of the common room to the seventh year dorms.
I know where most if not all the students sleep, why? I might have had to plan a few ambushes in the dorm hallways as I can't actually enter another's room without permission. Still, who needs permission when I know how to do this. And with that I knocked on Marcus' door and waited, after a few long moments the door swung open and the second he saw me he went to close it, but I was faster and already had my wand on hand.
"Locomotor Wibbly"
And with that his legs gave out underneath him as he fell face first onto the ground, as he struggled to get back up onto his non-responding feet. I just pointed my wand down at him once more and said in a tone of anger to let the man on the ground know he had messed up.
"Petrificus Totalus"
He froze in place and I sat down in front of him as his still moving eyes shot up to meet my gaze, I just stared down at him for a long moment before saying in a bored tone.
"If you wanted me to hurt a member of you're team so yo didn't have to play you should really have informed me you know. After all, that way something like this wouldn't have happened, now we can in fact make this right. Would you like that?" I don't like the tone i"m using, it's so innocent and sweet sounding it makes me want to gag a little bit, but I held my ground and watched as his eyes seemed to plead with me, so I gave him a smile and said.
"I knew you would, now listen closely because this is what you're going to do for me. You are going to do whatever I want when I want, understand? Oh get that irritated look out of your eye, it won't be that bad, after all the alternative is I do exactly what you wanted me to" Eyes are quite expressive you know, it's mostly the skin around the eyes that show those emotions but the eyes themselves can also hold emotion an right now his were showing confusion so I just huffed out an amused laugh and said happily.
"If you don't do what I want, I'll make sure all your team members and you are in no condition to play every single time you have a match coming up for the rest of the year. How would you like that, to spend every moment you would have in the air with your team will be replaced instead with you in a hospital robe with your team regrowing the bones in your hands and legs" Was that cruel? Well yeah that's the point. Make it something so big of a punishment that he has to agree with my terms.
"You'll give me an answer in the next hour or I'll show you what happens when you don't... Oh and give this back to Draco for me when he gets out of the hospital won't you" With that I dropped the wand in my hand on his back and then walked away, leaving his frozen body on the ground. He'll unfreeze when the spell wears off, which, if I casted the spell right, will be in about fifty minutes.
"I wonder why Professor Snape was so insistent that we study werewolves" I just looked over at Blaise for a moment while thinking about it for a moment before finally deciding that it wouldn't hurt if he was aware.
"Probably because he seems to hate Lupin" Blaise hummed at that, knowing that there was some kind of clear feud between the two only if it was somewhat one-sided, and by that Snape made it clear that he hates Lupin and Lupin just doesn't give a shit.
"I guess, but why werewolves? That's what I don't understand"
"Probably because Lupin is a werewolf" Blaise was giving my that look again, the look of wondering both why and how I knew that, so I just shrugged and said as we continued onward to our next class.
"I have to be constantly aware of the lunar cycle because it effects a few potions and rituals. At this point I have it memorized for what type of moon we have. The last week Lupin has been getting worse and worse and tonight it was full moon and suddenly he's to sick to teach and Snape, a man who hate Lupin, drags out a full lesson on identifying werewolves and ways to kill them? It's not that big of a leap of logic" Blaise just rolled his eyes at me again before saying good naturally.
"You say that but I'm pretty sure you can only think in leaps of logic, because the rest of us can't keep up" I nodded my head at that as that was pretty accurate to my thought processes, though I noted that Blaise didn't particularly seemed concerned about that information.
"I was expecting some form of outrage from you when I said that. I'm pretty sure most would be worried about a werewolf teaching children" He actually laughed at that which confused me a little bit as I wasn't sure what was all that funny before he explained.
"Please, I have a magical genius, sociopathic basilisk killing force of nature as my best friend, if a werewolf scared, then I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with you" Huh. I hadn't thought about that, so I'm directly related to his ability to not give a shit about stuff that is normally terrifying, well that's neat I guess.
Ducking under a stunner, I ran across the long room and had to leap forwards to jump over another spell, falling into a shaking roll, I spun on my knees to look around and blinked as I watched as three flashes of red were almost in front of me. I felt my hands graze across the floor underneath me as I thought of the needed incantation as a stone wall was transfigured in front of me.
Taking a shallow inhale into my lungs trying to get my breathing calmed for the time I had as I listened at hour sets of foot steps seemed to be converging on my position. I pressed my back against my transfigured wall and stood. Waiting until I saw a raised arm rush out from behind the wall, lunging at it, I grabbed the wirst of the person before pulling them around as I heard a shout before someone yelled out.
"Stupefy!"
But I had already pulled whoever I had grabbed to cover my back and in and instant they had been stunned. Letting go of them with a shudder pushing through my body at the prolonged contact, I rejected event part of my mind that screamed in the uncomfortableness that filled my body from the action. With that as far out of my head as I could manage it to be I ran forwards with a wand now in my hand, but instead of using it, I slipped the wand into my inner robe pocket.
I listened to two more stunners get snapped off from behind me as I skidded to a stop and dropped down onto my back as I watched as the red colored spells sailed over my head. Pushing myself up just in time to get enough air underneath me to throw myself to my right as to avoid another spell. Rolling onto my back I shot up before focusing on another spell in my mind as I held out an open palm towards the first of the two attackers still up, they quickly casted a shield which the other quickly got behind as well.
Good, I actually was bluffing, I'm way to out of breath and my mind is way to much of a buzzing mess of thoughts to cast any spell that would have an effect I would want without my wand on me. So with that I broke into a dead sprint at the two, both of which were looking at me with a notable hint of fear in their eyes at my crazy action before the Protego was dropped as the two tried to get their next stunner ready, but I was already on them.
Reaching forwards I ripped the wand out of the one to my right and shoved them onto the floor, dropping the wand on the ground, I spun on my heel towards the last one with their wand and instantly kicked my legs out from under me, making gravity drop me onto the ground with a hard thud with a red spell sailing right over my face, barely avoiding it by one of my hairs length.
Pushing my arms under me, I kicked out and shot my right down out past the left leg of the person over my who had their wand pointed directly down at me with a look a victory on their face. That's when I pulled my leg back, pulling their left leg out from under them with my right foot, causing them to fall onto their back as I rolled onto my front and grabbed the wand in their right hand and ripped it out of their grasp before they could do anything.
Panting from exhaustion, I fell down on my ass and let out a shaky sigh as I dropped all three wands in my grasp as Theo and Daphne picked up their wands before one of them revived Tracey form her spot on the stone floor. Damn these are getting really hard to win, I had Blaise stick this one out because if he didn't then I wouldn't have had a proper chance.
Though that's also kind of my own fault as well, after all, choosing to not use my wand any is a horrible decision that if it didn't show the results that it did then I would never do this again. Taking a few more deep breaths, while also shaking off the small shaking that my body had started doing from all that contact during the fight. Still, while none of them are the best at dueling, this is certainly getting me prepared for completely uneven odds.
"I feel like you have no idea about how infuriating it is to lose to you when it's three to one and you don't even have a bloody wand" Daphne was complaining about it again, but she knew that this was helping her just as it was helping me so she can't complain to much. Still, with that I stood up and patted myself off as I had scuffed my robes pretty bad with all the acrobatic shit I had to do to avoid those spells. I swear if I don't have a six pack by the end of this I call bull shit.
