Buckle up everybody, I'm warning you.

"This IV itches," Veronica mumbles.

I chuckle and kiss her forehead. "Well, I'm sorry. Only a little while longer, Darling."

She sighs. "I'm so sick of this. I want to go home."

I wrap my arm around her shoulders. "I know, Sweetheart. I want you to come home too."

Veronica had woken up late last night. It was the most spectacular moment I had experienced in a long time. Waking up to the faint sound of her voice, whispering my name… It was like an out-of-body experience. I couldn't believe that it was real.

Veronica shuffles over a little in the bed and lightly taps the place next to her. "Can you sit with me?" she asks, so hopefully but sad.

"Of course." I carefully sit beside her and wrap my arms gently around her, kissing her cheek.

She's quiet for a moment until she breathes, "Do you still love me?"

"Yes! Yes, of course! Why would you ever doubt it?!" I press my forehead to hers and try to muffle a sob. "I love you so much."

She blinks back tears. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have…" She buries her face in my shoulder. "I thought you would be angry."

"Never. I could never." I stroke her hair. "Please never, ever try to leave me again."

"I won't." She weasels her hand into mine.

I bring her pale and fragile hand to my lips. "Did they tell you?"

"About what?"

"The baby."

Veronica's lip trembles. "I lost it, didn't I?"

"Yes. Ronnie, I'm sorry-"

She shakes her head. "Don't be sorry. It's my fault. One way or another…"

I pull her closer. "Why did you do it?"

She's silent for a while. I run my fingers up and down her spine. "I thought you would be upset with me and you wouldn't love me anymore. I got really scared when I found out that I just panicked."

"I could never stop loving you, Veronica. Not once."

She sniffles. "I love you too-"

There's a knock on the door and I sigh. "Come in."

Veronica and I both freeze when we see our guests. Cops.

"Jason and Veronica Dean, you are under arrest for the mass murder of Westerburg High School."
