Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 19
Sometime Later
Getting a knock at his front door and having the person at the other side be Brooke was just the sunshine Lucas needed on this otherwise dark and emotionally charged day.
Lucas hugged her tightly.
Brooke hugged him back. Clinging to his warmth and the safety she felt being in his arms.
Eventually the two pulled apart.
"I take it things didn't go well at the funeral. When you texted me before you left that you had decided to go last minute i wanted to be supportive honestly i had my doubts about how everyone else mainly Dan and Deb would recieve you." Lucas said.
Brooke took a deep breath. Before she spoke.
"The service was beautiful. Haley spoke. And Jamie did too. They managed to act as if i wasn't there during that. It was the reception when i spent some time with Jamie that seemed to set them off. I'm not allowed to be in Jamie's life anymore. According to them. I know Haley won't agree with that but she's already in the middle, grieving, trying to help Jamie and handle her own grief while pregnant. I'm going to keep my distance for awhile."
"I think that'll be for the best." Brooke said.
"If you truly believe that then i support you."
"You are welcome to to come here and spend time with us whenever you want." Lucas said.
"I've missed you." Brooke simply said.
Lucas leaned over kissing her.
Brooke kissed him back. The two soon pulled apart.
"I've missed you more. Make yourself comfortable." Lucas said.
Brooke took his words to heart and sat down in the living room. Allowing her body to relax and sink into the sofa.
"How's Astrid healing.?" Brooke asked.
"She is doing well considering. She has her good days and her bad ones. I'm going to go into the kitchen and start making lunch. Do you want me to make you anything.?" Lucas asked.
"I'm glad she's progressing well and sure a ham and cheese or turkey and cheese sandwhich with sour cream and onion potatoe or BBQ chips. Whatever you have to drink is fine." Brooke said.
"I'll be back as soon as i can and i'm bringing dessert too." Lucas said. Turning from her as he left the living room and entered the kitchen.
At the sound of footsteps Brooke turned her head and looked up.
She smiled warmly at the sight of Astrid. Relieved to see the teenager in a much more stable and healthy place then when she saw her last.
Astrid walked over from the entryway to the living room.
"I heard a voice other then my dad's which is why i came down out of curiousity. And you are.?" The teenager asked.
Brooke suddenly felt nervous and unsure. This her first time meeting her boyfriend's daughter under normal circumstances. She needed this to go perfectly. For Astrid to like her. Otherwise that could have a large impact on her and Lucas's relationship future.
"I'm Brooke Davis. Owner and creator of Clothes over bros my fashion line." She said.
"I've heard of it. Who are you to my dad.? You aren't one of his friends. I've met them all." Astrid asked.
Brooke looked back at the teenager. Feeling a sense of judgement coming off of her.
"You're dad and I knew each other as teenagers and reconnected as adults after high school. We are more then friends now. We're in a relationship." Brooke said.
Astrid narrowed her gaze at Brooke.
"So what exactly are you're intensions with my father.? I know who you. It only takes a google search you know. Between you're gambling, cheating dad and you're cold, ruthless mother. I don't know what what my dad sees in you and frankly i don't care. All i do know is that if you hurt him. You'll have a problem with me. He is the greatest man i've ever known. I've gone my whole life without a mom i don't want or need one now." Astrid proclaimed.
Footsteps came walking back into the living room.
Lucas reappeared with a tray of food and drinks.
"Daddy hand that over let me help you." Astrid said. With a sweet smile. Taking hold of the tray and carefully placing it down on the coffee table.
"I see the two of you have met and probably had alot to talk about." Lucas said. With a smile sitting beside Brooke.
"I'm going to eat my lunch in my room. I'll leave you too alone. You're right dad we were just getting to know each other." Astrid said. Grabbing ahold of her tray and turning from the couple.
...
"I miss you daddy. I hate this. I want you come back right now!" Jamie exclaimed. Staring down at the head stone in the cementary.
Deb leaned over and picked him up. Holding him in her arms securely.
"No one misses you're daddy more then the three of us." Dan said.
"My little brother or sister will never get to know him. I told momma the other day but i forgot to ask the two of you. Came i come and live with you at you're house.?" Jamie asked. Looking to his grandparents.
The couple's faces lit up.
"Of course we would welcome you're company so much." Dan said.
"You can come by soon to pick out you're room. We have a maid, chef, and anything else you would need. We'll talk it over with you're mother when we drop you off today." Deb said.
Jamie shook his head in agreement.
"Nanny Carrie!" He exclaimed happily.
The woman surprised by his presence engulfed him into a hug.
"My main man. It's been awhile since we've seen each other." Carrie said.
"Grandpa grandma this is my nanny Carrie she used to take care of me before momma made her go away. She ruins everything." Jamie said.
"I'm just here visiting you're dad. I'm sorry you lost him." Carrie said.
"Not as sorry as we are. Let's get going Jamie." Deb said.
Carrie watched as the family left the cementary together.
She lingered in the cementary in front of Nathan's tombstone.
"We could of been a family. You just couldn't let it happen." She said.

The James Household
"You are not taking my son away from me!" Haley exclaimed. Putting her hand on her belly trying to calm herself.
"Be resonable Haley. Some time and space will be good for Jamie. He's so angry with you now." Deb said.
"We can give him the life you can't. You won't be able to support two children on a teacher's salary. If you really love Jamie you'll do the right thing." Dan said. Before he and Deb left the home.
