Chapter 18
Jimmy rode hard until he felt his anger subside. He didn't know if she would be waiting at the river but he had to go look. He had faith that she would come through for him. He heard the rushing water as he got closer. He saw the light of a campfire. He eased closer until he saw her.
"Glad you could make it." She smiled.
"I shouldn't have come. I got in a big fight and tore up the bunkhouse. I just got so mad that I just blew up. It's gonna be hard to look at them tomorrow. What's wrong with me?" Jimmy whispered.
"I've got what you need to make it all better."
"Maybe I shouldn't. Maybe I can be better than that. You know, be who I used to be."
"If you say so." She said as she sat the three bottles down across from him.
She saw him looking at them. She put the mugs out. She poured herself a drink and tossed it back. She smiled as he looked on.
"You sure?" She asked playfully.
"No."
"So you want it?"
"No...wait yes."
"That's what I thought."
She poured him a mug. Then another. She then sat the entire bottle in front of him. She smiled as he drank from it.
"Do they know you are here?"
"No."
"Even better." She said as she handed him another bottle.
Teaspoon went straight to the saloon but he wasn't there. Cody met him coming from the schoolhouse. He wasn't there either.
"Should we check the alleys?" Asked Cody.
"No, they didn't see him at the saloon."
"I don't know then."
"The tracks came to town." Said Teaspoon.
"Maybe he just went straight through to throw us off." Supplied Cody.
"Maybe Buck will have better luck."
Kimberly sat and watched Jimmy start to lightly sway as he sat. She smiled wickedly as he started on the third bottle. Little did he know that his time on this Earth was drawing to a close. This was the part of her job that she liked the best. She liked the thought of being the last one that they would ever see.
"You know, you've never let me hold those guns of yours."
Jimmy shrugged and tossed them over to her.
"Gorgeous."
"Nothing but killers, just like me." Slurred Jimmy.
She tossed one over in the distance. He didn't even notice. She stood and walked over to her horse. She held his other gun in her hand. She slipped it inside her jacket. She smiled as she watched him finish off the last bottle dropping it on the ground. She walked over to him.
"Let's take a walk over by the water. The sound is soothing, don't you think."
"I guess."
She grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet. She walked them over to the edge. The full moon lit up the water. She helped to steady him along the bank. She turned him to face her. She smiled at him. He smiled back. She slowly backed away watching him sway unsteadily on the waters edge.
"Jimmy?"
He looked up at her.
"No hard feelings." She said as she pointed his gun at him.
Jimmy saw the moonlight gleam off the silver of his revolver. He tried to focus on what was happening. Kimberly smiled as she pulled the trigger. The shot hit Jimmy in his chest. She watched as it threw him back into the rushing water. He quickly disappeared in the current. She tossed his gun down and walked away.
