"Finally!" Caroline exclaimed, dramatically when she opened the door to reveal Evelyn standing there, bag in hand "I've been waiting for ages".
"Sorry, I got a little held up", Evelyn admitted, entering the Forbes home.
"Let me guess, it was that handsome guy who was your date to Miss Mystic Falls", Caroline said with a teasing smile.
"It was", Evelyn confessed.
"So, how long after that event do you to get together?" Caroline asked as they made her way to her room.
"Not long", Evelyn replied.
"And is he going to be at the event later today?" the blonde questioned, hoping the answer was 'yes' so that she'd be properly introduced to him.
"I'm afraid not", Evelyn replied "he's gone away for a few days".
"Oh. Well, when he gets back you'll have to introduce me", Caroline said.
"Yeah, absolutely", Evelyn agreed. It was best just to agree with Caroline instead of arguing with her because the blonde was a force to be reckoned with and almost always she gets what she wants. Despite being a witch, and a reasonably powerful one at that, Evelyn was still a little afraid of Caroline Forbes. "So what does Miss Mystic Falls want her hair to be like while she's waving to the populace on her stunning Gone With The Wind float?" the brunette asked as Caroline sat down at her vanity.
"Southern classic elegance to match the float", the blonde answered.
"One Scarlett O'Hare hairstyle coming up", Evelyn said picking up a brush. Several minutes later she'd styled Caroline's locks into a do worthy of a southern lady.
"I love it Lyn", Caroline said, as Evelyn held up a small mirror to show her the back of her head.
"I'm glad", the brunette said "now, you do…" she trailed off when her phone went off "sorry". Evelyn took out her phone and smiled when she saw the ID. "I'll be back in a sec", she said to Caroline before starting out of the room.
"Tell Elijah I said 'hi'", Caroline called after her.
"Will do", Evelyn called back. She then answered the phone. "Hello most handsome boyfriend of mine", she greeted.
"Hello to you too, my beautiful girlfriend", Elijah greeted back, the brunette could hear the smile in his voice.
"Any particular reason you're calling? Or is it because you miss me?" Evelyn questioned.
"I missed you the moment I dropped you off", Elijah admitted.
"Me too", Evelyn agreed. It felt strange that she missed him so quickly, that had never happened before. Was it because their relationship had stepped up a notch?
"I shouldn't be away for very long. A couple of weeks at most", Elijah assured her.
"Do you think we might be able to visit the Lake House when you come back?" Evelyn asked, hoping that they could. Despite it being only a short time at the little home by the water, she'd fallen in love with it. It was her home away from home and she felt really safe there, like nothing bad could get to her while she was in the Lake House.
"Of course", Elijah replied.
"And…maybe we could stay there a little bit longer?" Evelyn questioned. On the other end of the phone, the Original's smile grew at the prospect of spending more time with his beloved at the Lake House.
"If that's what you'd like to do, then we'll do that", Elijah answered.
"I would", Evelyn said "I really would like to. Oh and uh Caroline says hi".
"Tell her I said 'hi' too", Elijah said.
"I will" there was a brief pause on the other end "I've got to go. I love you".
"I love you too", Elijah said "see you soon" and with that he hung up. At Caroline's house, Evelyn tucked her phone away and headed back into the blonde's bedroom to help her friend into her dress.
Hours later…
Evelyn walked along the street, smiling at the festivities of Founder's Day. She pulled out her phone when she heard it ring and she let out a small laugh when she saw the ID was Elijah. "Two calls in one day? Aren't I a lucky girl?" she remarked in a teasing tone as she answered it.
"I suppose you are", Elijah answered "how's your day going?"
"Fine. Founder's Day is going really well", Evelyn replied "though I…" she trailed off when she felt funny.
"Evie, you ok?" Elijah asked.
"No I…" the brunette broke away when a piercing pain shot through her head causing her to cry out.
"Evelyn! What's happening?!"
"My head! Its killing me!" Evelyn screamed, dropping to her knees, clutching her head and her phone fell to the floor in the process. The ruckus she was causing caught the attention of one of the patrolling deputy.
The teenager could only but watch in agony was he strode up to her and stabbed a syringe of vervain into her arm. Even though the herb didn't affect her like it would if she were a vampire, the act was enough to make her pass out. The deputy hauled Evelyn up and dragged her away, all the while Elijah was still shouting on the phone.
On the way to the building belonging to Grayson Gilbert, the deputy was bowled over by a rather pissed off Susannah. The vampire scooped up the unconscious teenager and vamp sped away.
"Ugh I'm really sick on passing out", Evelyn mumbled as she came to in the hotel room that belonged to Susannah.
"I bet you are", Susannah remarked. The teenager glanced at her and slowly sat up.
"I didn't know you were in town", she stated.
"I got back just before I heard that awful noise in my head", Susannah explained "no idea what caused it. But I know that it affected vampires…and you".
"The only thing that could've harmed vampires was the Gilbert device but I was told that Bonnie made it powerless", Evelyn said.
"Unless she just pretended to do so", Susannah commented "and honestly? I wouldn't blame her either. There may be good vamps in this town but there are…sorry were a number of bad ones. I really think the question of the hour is, why did it affect you?"
"I have no idea", Evelyn admitted "I'm not a vampire. I'm just a human who can do magic".
"Maybe it was your magic then", Susannah guessed though deep down she suspected it was due to the girl's reincarnated status than her being magically inclined.
"Perhaps", Evelyn mumbled rubbing her head. Her eyes widened when she realised something "Elijah! I was on the phone to him when it happened! He must be so worried".
"He is", Susannah told her "that's why he's on his way back".
Evelyn opened her mouth to say something when the door opened and Elijah strode in. The Original walked up to her and pressed his lips against hers in a searing kiss. He eventually he parted slightly only to rest his forehead against hers. Evelyn closed her eyes, understanding his unspoken words of concern.
