Chapter 21:
8038 Harbor View Terrace, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY
23rd December 2019
It was a beautiful snow day in New York City, the snow was coming down all around the city. The pavements were lightly covered in snow, outside, Nathan was shovelling the snow in front of his house in Bay Ridge.
He looked out on the snow that was falling around him, Sylvie had taken the liberty of checking into a hotel before the wedding, wanting to follow tradition and to not see each other before the wedding. So far, the plan had worked to perfection.
Sylvie's bridesmaids involved, Gabby, Stella, Burgess, Dr Manning and April Sexton. Nathan's best men and groomsmen were Nathan's old SEAL Buddies. Nathan had been waiting for this day since he had gotten engaged to Sylvie, he had been active in the wedding planning, as well as continue his duties to the NYPD.
He had reunited with his SEAL buddies on November 11th. They had forgiven Nathan for not keeping up to date with them, he had also said sorry for how he had left the Navy when he was dealing with all the pain.
Nathan had gotten out his journal and began to write inside it.

"Today's the day. Today, is the day, I get married to my amazing and beautiful fiancée, Sylvie Brett. God, I've imagined this day for many a day. We're having the honeymoon here in Santorini.
Boy, I love saying 'our home', she's helped to make it our home. I can't wait to raise a family within these walls. Little Navy SEALs, maybe a Marine involved, I don't know. We both decided to stay here in Brooklyn for the rest of our lives.
I love Sylvie, she's the best thing to happen to me in a long time, her damn smile makes me weak and strong at the same time. I can't wait for her to walk down the aisle in the Delaney Family wedding dress.
She'd be the prettiest dame in the church. It really is Christmas for me this year, during the planning for the wedding, I went looking through some ideas for the honeymoon, I incidentally found out Mom and Dad didn't just have me when I was born. I was supposed to have been born out of 4 children. I was the sole survivor of 3 boys and 1 little girl…
Color me crazy, but it makes me nervous for Sylvie… What if she has the same problem that Mama did?"

Nathan was then sorting out breakfast for his best friends. All of them were eating a hearty breakfast consisting of Italian poached eggs, egg on toast and of course tomatoes that had to be diced. The meal was an Italian breakfast that Nathan had wanted to try out. This particular dish originated from the Tuscany region of Italy where his own Great-Grandmother had grown up in after the 2nd World War.
Afterwards, his buddies and himself all showered and shaved before changing into their NYPD dress blues or Navy uniforms.
Nathan stood in front of the mirror; he adjusted his only 4 ribbons that he earned during his short time on the job.

He placed his hat onto his head as he walked down the stairs clutching his white gloves.
He walked down the stairs to see his SEAL Team buddies in their Navy dress whites as he said, "Everybody ready?"
"Ready when you are, Chief. How you feelin'?" Smokestack asked.
Nathan nervously chuckled as he said, "Nervous, I think I'm shakin'." "You'll be fine, big guy… you remember the old tricks to keeping calm?" Danny Panelli asked.
"Whaddya think?" Nathan said with sarcasm laced in his voice.
The SEALs all laughed as Barton said, "Alright Paladin and Sierra Teams, let's get underway."
Joe got into his Blue SUV along with Sierra Team. Paladin Team and Nathan all got into Nathan's Convertible and Danny Panelli's Modern day convertible.
They all began driving to Saint Anselm's Church, the snow was still coming down at a medium intensity. It took a mere 6 minutes to get to the church.

Outside the church Sierra Team were standing at the door allowing people to enter, Firehouse 51, Chicago Med and District 21 were all in attendance as well as several officers from the 12th Precinct.
Nathan walked up to the podium as he looked out across the area of the church. Everyone was filling into their seats as he saw Chief Boden walking towards him as he said, "Chief."
"Nathan, it's been a while. How are you?" Boden asked.
Nathan smiled as he said, "I'm goin' to be okay, Chief. It's gonna take time, but I'll be okay."
"Congratulations on you two getting married. That girl's had eyes for you since the day you walked into 51." Boden laughed.
"So, I've heard." Nathan said with a grin.
"Don't understand why you wanted to have a wedding in December around the time it gets to the snow." Casey said as he walked over.
"I like snow… plus you think Chicago winter is murder. Get a load of New York winter. Why do you think I said bring winter trench coats?" Nathan asked as he shook his former Lieutenant's hand.
"Congratulations, Nate." Casey offered.
Nathan smiled, "Thanks, Lieutenant."
The pair continued talking for a little bit as Danny came up beside them as he said to Nathan, "Hey, we better get up on the altar, Nate."
"Yeah, I'll be there." Nathan said.
He bid farewell to Casey as he took his place on the altar as he looked out across the way, in the front row on the right side, it had been left empty.
But in that row, he imagined his parents and his grandparents sitting there dressed in their best clothing.
His father Daniel dressed in his dress blues as he smiled before saying, "Good luck up there, son. Wish I was there next to ya."
Nathan nodded as he murmured, "I wish you were here too, Pop. I coulda used your coolness right now."
"You always got it, son. I'm real damn prouda you." Daniel said.
Nathan smiled as he blinked, the front row was left empty like nobody was sitting there, a small part of him was a little saddened about his family not being here as he focused on the aisle.

At the front of the church, Sylvie and the bridesmaids were arriving. Sylvie looked really nervous about the wedding, even though she had not gotten this far during her last engagement to her last fiancée before she had run away and joined the Chicago Fire Department.
Gabby sensed this nervousness as she asked, "Hey, you okay?" "I'm worried about the whole thing and how it might go wrong at the same time." Sylvie confessed.
"Brett, you listen well… Nate is the sweetest, kindest and cutest guy you've ever met. You two are made for each other regardless. I want you to know that whatever happens, 51 always has your back and we'll have Nate's back as well." Gabby said in her Dominican accent as she glared deeply into Sylvie's blue eyes.
Sylvie nodded as she breathed deeply before saying, "Thanks Gabby. I'm glad you're here." "Don't fret yourself. You're goin' to be fine, just do us all a favour and gladly say 'I do.' when he asks do you take Nate to marry you." Gabby replied.
Soon the bagpipes sounded off as everybody stood to watching the page boy and the flower girl walk down the aisle then came the bridesmaids. Gabby, Burgess, Stella, Natalie and April walked down dressed in gold shimmering wedding dresses.
Everybody was smiling widely and then it turned to the bride who began to walk down the aisle.
Nathan recognised the wedding dress as the Delaney Wedding Dress. Her long blonde hair was wavy, the princess wedding dress fit her beautifully. The background song that was playing turned out to be Moments Like This – The Afters.
Sylvie smiled looking at the sight of him in his dress blues, seeing how tall it made him look.

Nathan POV
Heaven's really a place on Earth. Hot damn Sylvie truly looks like a vision in heaven, I knew she'd look beautiful in that dress… I just didn't know how beautiful it would make her.
I sure hope Ma and Pop are looking down on us.
As she approached the altar, I watched her walk up the steps as she smiled with that cute smile of hers, red lips and a heavenly smile. she was everything that I wanted in this world.
I do the sign of the cross quickly, to my left my SEAL Team brothers look at me in amazement, they knew I was like their priest when we were overseas, they were my band of brothers.
Sylvie POV
Hubba, hubba! Nate is looking fine. Those dress blues of his that he had worn so perfectly fitted him like a glove. His brass buttons shined brightly, it made him look so commanding and dignified.
Nathan stood side-by-side with his SEAL Team brothers. I had never seen such comradery… they understood each other so perfectly, they knew each other's strengths and weaknesses. When I encouraged Nate to meet 'em, he was reluctant at first because he thought they'd freeze him out for his desertion of the team.
Instead they welcomed him with open arms, they cheered, they drank together patted each other on the shoulder, a yell of 'Hoo-yah!' it felt good for him.

Main POV
Sylvie approached the altar as she stood in front of Nathan, she then breathed out, "Hi." "You look beautiful, Sylvie." Nathan said.
Sylvie smiled, "You look handsome."
Nathan chuckled as the priest then began, "Dearly beloved, we're gathered here today, to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Not to be entered into lightly, holy matrimony should be entered into solemnly and with reverence and honor. Into this holy agreement these two persons come together to be joined. If any person here can show cause why these two people should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace."
Nobody had said a single word as to which Nathan and Sylvie blew a breath of relief hearing this.
As the wedding went on, both Nathan and Sylvie shared their wedding vows. They vowed to each other their undying love, their loyalty and commitment.
The wedding rings were out, Nathan's ring for Sylvie was a simple gold wedding band, but this one had a small diamond in the middle. Nathan gently slid the ring onto Sylvie's ring finger as he whispered, "I Love You."
Sylvie's ring for Nathan was a gold wedding band, but there was no diamond. Nathan looked on with surprise as he noticed the ring was the same as his Dad had.
He watched Sylvie slide it onto his finger as she said, "I Love You."
"By the power invested in me and the state. I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." The priest said.

Nathan took one step forward and kissed Sylvie as he heard everybody begin to applaud both him and Sylvie happily.
As they walked down the aisle with everybody watching on with a smile. They stopped to allow everyone to get outside. When everyone was outside, they made their way out, everybody began to throw confetti in the air, compared with the snow. The snow fell around them.
Most of the guests had taken pictures of the newly-wedded Nathan and Sylvie Delaney.
They had looked angelic with the snow falling around them.
They moved to the wedding reception in Park Slope, there had been food, drink, laughter and a lot of dancing. Firehouse 51 had to leave early so they could be back for duty.

At the end of the night, Nathan and Sylvie had taken a cab back to the Delaney house.
Sylvie was carried bridal style up the steps and to the front door, Sylvie had opened the door and Nathan carried her inside across the threshold, she then kissed him passionately before getting down out of Nathan's arms.
Sylvie reached for a glass of whiskey from the basement as Nathan said, "I had no idea we had a bottle of whiskey in there."
"A bottle of Bushmills 1608?" Sylvie wiggled her eyebrows. Nathan laughed as he said, "You certainly make an Irishman smile."
Nathan pulled 2 glasses from the cupboard as he poured the whiskey before saying, "When a Delaney marries, the newly-wedded couple drink a glass before they celebrate."
Sylvie takes the offered glass as she says, "What do they toast to?"
Nathan holds his glass before saying, "To Sylvie Delaney, my true love, my soulmate and my bright star."
"To Nathan Delaney, my Irishman, my true love and more importantly… my husband." Sylvie said.
The pair clinked their glasses before drinking the whiskey. Nathan breathes out before saying, "Still hasn't lost its expensive taste."
"Worth every dime." Sylvie says as she kisses him passionately.
As she kissed Nathan, Sylvie slipped her shoes off, she went to work on Nathan's shirt undoing the buttons. Once his shirt was off, he began to run her hands down his sculpted chest.
She then said, "Upstairs, handsome."
"Yes ma'am." Nathan said.
Nathan began to chase Sylvie up the stairs as the pair raced into the master bedroom the sounds of laughter turned to silent.
From the house in Brooklyn, the snow fell in the darkest night. It was purely heaven in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
