Some things never change
"Wake up Annabeth! School starts in half an hour!" Screamed Paige, Annabeth's roommate from the other side of the room.
"Coming." answered the sleeping young woman. She groaned and got up sleepily, walking towards the kitchen, eyes half-open.
"Annabeth! We're going to be late!" The little brunette pressed. "Remember? Today we must go to the reception room. Someone is giving a speech." That seemed to awaken the Demi-goddess, as she looked up with surprised eyes toward her friend.
"I don't know what I'm going to do with you." Sighed the girl, as her friend started eating, lost in her thought as she was often nowadays.
The school's headmaster stepped forward and climbed on the stage, where a microphone was places.
"Ladies and gentlemen. I decided today it would be a good idea to discover some jobs other than being an architect. We have several people here who are going to present their everyday work. Can you please applause M. Smith please."
The room erupted in weak applause as everyone was still sleepy. A rather young man, perhaps thirty-five years old, walked toward the headmaster, and shook his hand. He smiled to the crowd of students. He was neither tall neither small, average height, with an agreeable face and charming smile. He presented himself as a businessman and started talking for a long time about his different factories.
Quickly, Annabeth zoomed off and started watching the courtyard by the window. She didn't even notice the when someone else came up to talk about their job. Lost in her thoughts, she started to remember a time where, with her boyfriend, now gone on a mission, she had laughed just under the big tree she could see from where she sat.
Oh! How she missed him. A few months ago, Percy had decided to join the Marine and left on a mission that was to last several months. Now, eight months later, she still hadn't got any call as she could neither Iris Message him as he was always with other soldiers, neither call him for fear of monsters.
Her friend and roommate, who was sitting at her left, gave her a kick in the leg. "Look at this one. He certainly is handsome!" She shrieked. Annabeth just shrugged, she was getting used to her friend falling in and out of love every day or so. She didn't even look anymore.
"He's looking toward us." Paige whispered, hitting her friend in the ribs. Annabeth looked up and her eyes met with startling sea-color ones. She got up in surprise and covered her shaking hand in front of her mouth.
At the same time, the two ran and met each other halfway. And in a spontaneous movement, something very unusual for a daughter of Athena, Annabeth kissed her boyfriend, kiss he happily responded.
"Wise Girl." he whispered in her ear after they had separated. "I've missed you so much."
"Don't you ever do that again Perseus Jackson." she hissed and like several years earlier, judo flipped him on the floor, in front of all her school.
"Sure Annie. Sure will." he laughed, his eyes twinkling with love and happiness. His girlfriend laughed as well and helped him up.
"I have a little sense of déjà-vu, Don't you?" He joked and she punched him playfully on the arm.
The headmaster cleared his voice awkwardly in the microphone, though his amusement could be heard in his voice.
"Now if you are quite finished, Mr. Jackson. We would love to hear about your experience in the Marine."
"Sure." he blushed before jogging toward where the headmaster stood, taking the microphone from his hand.
"Now. As you probably heard, my name is Percy Jackson." He passed his fingers in his messy hair, as was his habit and continued. "You probably know I as well was in the Marine. At first, I did not wish to become a soldier, in fact I even had a degree in Marine Biology. However, with the war raging in Asia, I felt it was my duty to go and fight for my country. I always loved water so I figured I might as well join the Marine. Now, any question?"
Amelia, one of the most popular girls of the school raised her hand. "Are you single?" She asked seductively.
Percy raised his eyebrow, as he had become a little less oblivious after several years of women hitting on him. "Obviously not." he chuckled and once again, he turned to look at his girlfriend who had taken her place again.
At that moment, everyone started to ask question at the same time, most of which were about he and Annabeth. He just laughed and checked with the headmaster to see if he could talk about it a little.
"Well. Annabeth and I met eight years ago and started dating four years ago but we were best friends before. I love her and I think she loves me too."
He laughed as he saw her rolling her eyes. Some things never change.
