The next morning, everyone was awake and were almost ready to leave Tanis for back to Cairo. But before they could do that, the wooden crate containing the Ark of the Covenant had to get labeled with Nazi symbols and a few words about the fascist beliefs so people can know that the Ark was now in the Nazis' possession. And while that was going on, Irma was lying down on the ground on her back looking up at the sky since she was bored and still feeling sad about how Nazism was affecting her mental state. So she tried to cheer herself up and be calm around her fellow Nazis by reciting a poem from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", which is one of her favorite stories and one of the books that she took with her on the mission. Major Toht was in a chair next to her, so he heard everything she said.

"How doth zhe little crocodile, improve his shining tail," Irma said, reciting from memory. "And pour the vaters of zhe Nile, on every golden scale. How cheerfully he seems to grin, how neatly spreads his claws. And velcomes little fishes in, vith gently smiling jaws."

"Irma?" said Major Toht. "Try to say the real thing. You just recited a parody of it."

"Vhat "real thing" are you talking about, Arnold?" asked Irma.

"Against Idleness and Mischief" by Isaac Watts," said Major Toht. "Lewis Carroll's version came a lot later."

"Oh…" said Irma. "Vell okay, I guess I could recite zhat instead…"

Irma starts to recite the poem.

"How doth zhe little busy bee, improve each shining hour," she recited from memory. "And gather honey all the day, from every opening flower. How skillfully she builds her cell. How neat she spreads zhe wax. And labors hard to store it vell. Vith zhe…Vith zhe…"

"Vith zhe sweet food she makes," said Major Toht.

"Oh yes," said Irma, then continuing to recite the poem. "In vorks of labor or of skill. I vould be busy, too: For…Fooooooooor…"

"Irma," said Major Toht, surprised that his sister messed up. "I thought you knew all zhe words. Do you no longer?"

"I'm sorry, Arnold," said Irma, sitting up. "I can't think straight vhen there's so much going on around here."

She sighs and says, "I vant to go home…"

"After ve get zhe Ark transported," said Major Toht.

"But I miss my own room…" said Irma.

"I said ve vill go home after we get zhe Ark transported," said Major Toht. "Now shush!"

Irma went quiet. She then sees that her brother was once again reading "Mein Kampf".

"Arnold, how many times are you going to read zhat book?" Irma asked him.

"I read it every day," said Major Toht. "And so do you."

"All 720 pages each day?!" Irma said.

"Of course not!" said Major Toht, thinking what Irma said was crazy. "It takes a while to read it to completion."

He then says, "I read zhe first page and go my way through. And vonce I am done, I start over at the way beginning."

Major Toht sees her about to talk, but cuts her off before she could speak as he says, "And before you ask, nein. No, I never get bored or tired of Hitler's vords in here."

He then reminds her, "Ve must alvays refresh and improve zhe mind so we remember zhat we Germans are zhe master race and rule anyvone who are below us."

"I know, Arnold..." said Irma, rolling her eyes. "You tell me zhat all zhe time...Almost every day ever since the Nazi Party first ruled Deutschland..."

"Zhat is because you don't always listen," said Major Toht, closing his book. "It vould be nice if you can pay attention for vonce, you know…"

"Yes, I know," said Irma. "But sometimes, I like to think about other things, too. Like my favorite books."

She starts daydreaming a little bit as she says, "You know...It vould be very interesting if vhat happens in those stories become real life. I vould really like zhat..."

"Irma?" said Major Toht, not pleased with his sister's childish thoughts. "Are you ever going to grow up?"

"Pardon?" said Irma, looking up at him.

"Never mind," said Major Toht, with a sigh. "Keine ursache…"

"Alright..." said Irma.

She paused and said to Major Toht, as she stood up, "You know, Arnold...I really hope ve get a nice reward after all zhis hard vork we've done to get zhis Ark. If the Führer gets his prize, ve deserve somethi-"

All of a sudden, the Nazi military aircraft in the short distance went into a fiery explosion.

"Heilige scheiße!" said Irma, quickly holds onto her brother as she got frightened by the sight and noise.

"Vhat Irma?!" wondered Major Toht.

Irma points to the military plane that just exploded and was on fire.

"Vas zhe Ark supposed to be in there?!" asked Irma.

"Stay with the Ark!" cried Dr. Belloq, running over to the site of the explosion "Stay with the Ark!"

"Get the Ark away from zhis place immediately!" ordered Colonel Dietrich. "Have it put in the truck! I vant plenty of protection!"

"You think it vill wo-" asked Gobler.

Another explosion occurs where the damaged-beyond-repair military plane was. And once again, Irma was spooked by this.

"Aaah!" said Irma, as she held onto her brother tighter. "Arnold, get me out of here! Please!"

"Hang on!" said Major Toht, getting up from his chair. "Get in zhe car!"

"Vhat car?" asked Irma.

Major Toht shows her the black Nazi staff car that they drove in to get to Tanis the previous day. And it was parked in front of the truck that was containing the Ark of the Covenant.

"Oh!" said Irma.

"Ve will lead the truck vith zhe Ark on where to go!" and Major Toht.

"Let's go!" said Irma.

Where Indy, Marion, Sallah were, they noticed that the Nazis got hold of the Ark of the Covenant before they did. They weren't surprised at this since Irma took the medallion earlier and has not returned to Marion. The good guys wanted the Ark back, but were running out of time. So they had to think of a plan on how to get the Ark back from the Nazis.

"Indy! Marion!" said Sallah. "We have no time left…If you still want the Ark, it has been loaded onto a truck for Cairo."

"Truck?" said Marion.

"What truck…?" said Indy.

The three look as they see the Nazi soldiers getting ready to leave the ancient city with the Ark of the Covenant inside the truck.

"Oh no…" said Indy. "I knew this would happen…"

"What will we do, Indy?" asked Marion. "We have to get the Ark back!"

"Or else the Nazis will bring it back to Germany!" said Sallah.

Indy comes up with something.

"Get back to Cairo," Indy said to his two friends. "Get us some transport home. Boat, plane, anything. Meet me at Omar's. Be ready for me. I'm going after that truck!"

"How?" asked Sallah and Marion.

"I don't know, I'll make this up as I go," said Indy.

He leaves.

"I know he will think of a plan," said Marion, with a smile. "He always knows what to do."

"Indy always saves the day!" said Sallah, with a chuckle.

Back with the Nazis, Dr. Belloq, Major Toht, Colonel Dietrich, Gobler, and Irma quickly ran to the staff car.

"Can I drive it?" said Irma, going to the front. "Can I?!"

"Uhhh…no," said Major Toht, shaking his head. "I don't think so."

"Vell, why can't I...?" asked Irma, giving him a look.

"You are reckless when you drive!" said Colonel Dietrich.

"Give me one example..." said Irma.

"You vone time stole my car and drove it all over zhe prison," said Major Toht.

"And then, you crashed it!" said Colonel Dietrich.

"Into zhe mess hall!" said Gobler.

Irma remembered when she did that at the concentration camp. And since she still thought the whole thing was funny, she began to laugh a bit.

"Zhat wasn't funny, Irma!" said Major Toht.

"Stop zhat laughing!" Colonel Dietrich ordered.

Irma quickly stops laughing and puts on a blank face.

"Should we let her drive?" asked Gobler.

"Vell…" said Major Toht.

"Please Arnold?" said Irma. "Bitte…?"

"Ooooh okay," said Major Toht. "But don't crash it zhis time!"

"YES!" cried Irma, jumping in happiness.

"Irma!" said Major Toht. "Act professional!"

Irma stands in place and said, "I meant to say, thank you very much, Arnold. Danke schön…"

"Zhat's much better," said Major Toht.

"Now let's get in the car and go!" said Dr. Belloq.

Everyone got into the staff car, with Irma at the driver's seat and Major Toht in the passenger seat next to his sister. And Dr. Belloq, Colonel Dietrich, and Major Gobler in the back seats. Irma then puts on her pair of military googles that fit over her eyeglasses.

"What's with the googles, Irma?" Dr. Belloq asked. "The sun bothering you?"

"A little bit," said Irma. "But I don't vant to have anything fly at me and break mein eyes."

She then said, "Nobody's getting killed, so I need to see vhere I am going. And…it makes me feel like I am on a big adventure!"

"Just start zhe car already!" ordered Major Toht.

"Aaah!" said Irma, with a small jump. "Okay okay! Okay…"

She starts the car as she puts it in drive and said, "Here we go!"

Irma began driving the staff car on her and the Nazis' way back to Cairo with the truck following from behind. But while this was going on, he followed them from behind while trying to get the Ark back. The Nazis noticed the American archaeologist and tried to get away.

"It's Dr. Jones!" said Colonel Dietrich.

"And he's after the Ark!" said Dr. Belloq.

"Vhat?!" said Major Toht.

"He's behind us!" said Gobler.

"Vhere?!" said Irma, looking behind her while driving and seeing Indy fighting some of the soldiers. "Oh my god! He's going to get zhe Ark! Ve cannot let-"

Major Toht grabbed Irma's head and turned it back towards the front of the car since she wasn't looking where she was going.

"Hey, easy zhere!" Irma said.

"Keep your eyes on zhe road, Irma!" ordered Major Toht.

"Sorry!" said Irma.

While Indy was chasing the truck, he eventually got in the truck. Even though at times he was in control of the truck's wheel, he still had to fight the other soldiers to make sure they don't try to defeat him. And while Indy is doing that, he then rammed the staff car as he tried to slow it down.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!" Irma screamed, while trying her hardest to stay on the road.

"Irma!" said Major Toht, grabbing the wheel. "Stay on zhe road!"

"I'm trying the best I can!" said Irma, still freaking out.

"Try harder, Soldatin!" ordered Colonel Dietrich.

"Alright alright!" said Irma.

Eventually, Indy got the soldiers out of the truck and was now in full control of the big vehicle. Right before he got the Ark back safely into town, he rammed the staff car once again. But this time, it made the car go far off the road as Irma started to lose control as the car was spinning out of control.

"NOOOOOOT AGAAAAAAAIN!" cried Irma, all scared to death.

"IRMA ODETTA TOHT!" shouted Major Toht, having has his hand on Irma so she won't get ejected. "STOP ZHIS CAR RIGHT NOW!"

"DON'T MAKE US FLY OUT!" shouted Gobler.

"FRÄULEIN IRMA!" shouted Colonel Dietrich. "I TOLD YOU YOU ARE A RECKLESS DRIVER!"

"WE'RE LOSING TRACK OF JONES!" shouted Dr. Belloq.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" screamed Irma.

Dr. Belloq, Major Toht, Colonel Dietrich, and Gobler scream along with her.

Then when the staff car was about to hit a rocky wall, Irma quickly pressed her foot on the breaks as the car stopped just in time. Irma and her fellow Nazis were safe and unharmed, but the four men were angry now that they lost track of Indy, and that the good guy got the Ark from them.

Irma was breathing heavily and fast as she puts her hand on her eyes and forehead due to the terrifying thing that just happened.

Major Toht smacked Irma in the back of the head as a result.

"Autsch!" cried Irma, rubbing her head. "Arnold, vhat was zhat for?!"

"Thanks a lot, Irma!" yelled Major Toht. "Because of you, we've lost zhe Ark!"

"Vhat?!" said Irma. "Vhat did I do?!"

"You and your reckless driving cost us zhe Ark!" yelled Colonel Dietrich.

"This is all your fault!" yelled Gobler.

"I couldn't help it!" said Irma. "I got scared!"

She then turned to everyone and said, "Can't ve all just be grateful zhat nobody got hurt?!"

"NEIN!" shouted Major Toht, Colonel Dietrich, and Gobler, angrily.

"NON!" shouted Dr. Belloq, angrily as well.

"I can never do anything right..." Irma said, sighing sadly.

Irma was so upset, she slams her head on the wheel in guilt.
