"Shouldn't you be in there with everyone?" I hear Jacob say to Kimberly, he must have accidentally pressed too hard on the button allowing us to hear their conversation.
"Man cant you see the girl is in a mood, she probably thought everyone would put their differences aside and work together" I heard a man's voice, however, it belonged to someone I didn't recognize.
"Frank" Poinzon Ivy said in an exasperated voice. "He's one of my plants" she immediately added before everyone went back to listening in the conversation of the two.
"...You know, not everyone is going to be a piece of shit, some are going to be good people, that have to do bad things to survive. Don't let it get to you" Jacob says to Kimberly.
"...The world ended and no one seems to care..." Kimberly says to Jacob.
"Oh, they care too, trust me."
"What good is gold or money when the dead rule, petty differences have to be forgotten, no one wants to forget them, but in the name of survival."
"Hey I hate you, you hate me, but no one gets to kill you except me, so don't die." Jacob says to Kimberly as he tries to comfort her.
"Man your pep talks stink, look, girl, you and some of the people in here and out there are the heroes of the past, a past everyone not batshit crazy will need to remember."
"So if you ever need a break, drink, smoke, fuck and do whatever you have to, because hey its the end of the world."
"You know it, I know it and that guy looking at those cards of his knows it" Frank says to Kimberly
"I'll go with the girl that's always wearing pink " Wolverine says before stepping out of the room and takin another crystal, there was no point in me asking where he was going, everyone in the tower knew.
"Hey your pushing that button to hard everyone can hear the two o you" I head wolverine says to both Kimberly and Jacob.
"Hey let that go!" Jacob says to someone I can only assume is Frank before the sound of a click.
"Technology, we need to talk about that, we cant use digital devices anymore but not everyone can use magic, so magic based on won't be" Jason Todd began, however, I had prepared for this.
"We have more than one option, but they will take time to perfect, diesel, magick, steam and this" I say to everyone as I take out something I was entrusted with years ago.
A green lantern ring.
"We can use the ring as a power source as well as a new grid, for a new internet 's completely separate from the old one, as long as no one connects anything from the old internet" I say to everyone, but they all look at the ring with worried expressions.
"Jacob, I'll leave the ring under your control. You're already responsible for keeping everyone alive, so if something gets past your cards, you will need to defend your self." I say t Jacob, I hope no one tries to steal the ring from him.
"Do you have the battery?" he answers.
"No" I answer him
No one said anything after that, everyone just left the tower and headed for their houses, as if knowing their roles, some placed their crystals near the entrance to the tower, while others took them.
"Everyone that is leaving and doesn't already have one of my cards come see me, oh every team gets one and just one" Jacob says before his voice is cut off by another click.
I'll go alone, I need to go see some of the people I know survived the initial outbreak, if they're still alive then we can take it from there.
There isn't much gear I have left, eventually, I'll either have to build more or go back to Gotham and get back what I left behind.
There was no point in saying goodbye or telling anyone how to do anything, every section had its own rules, so I don't bother speaking to anyone.
There's only one creature left, Jacob hands me its card and I the creature immediately picks me up and begins to fly.
I could have taken the plane I used to get to the island or used one of the many ships, but they all require fuel and as I look down, I understand why Jacob said the ocean wasn't an option anymore.
The sea is tearing itself apart, the fish are eating one another, there are patches of red where the blood has become so much it painted the ocean itself.
Somehow, I can feel the infected sea creatures looking at me as the creature flies towards the mainland.
