"Your human side is being overtaken... but how?" Vlad muttered to himself, reading over the results they had received. They had relocated to the lab so that Vlad could run as many tests as he could think of to try and find a reason, but so far nothing seemed to be working. Danny's ghost side was taking over his human side and if they didn't act quickly, then Danny would become a full fledged ghost. How could this happen? It hadn't happened to Vlad, and they had had similar accidents... except Vlad's was on a somewhat smaller scale.

Vlad furrowed his eyebrows and looked over at his own Ghost Zone portal. "Maybe..." he muttered to himself and leaned back over his computer to type in several equations.
"Maybe what?" Danny asked, trying to peer over Vlad's shoulder from where he was seated on the examination table. He pouted when Vlad didn't let him see what he was working on, and stood to walk over to him. "What is it?"
"Daniel, I need you to step over here and wait for my cue to transform." He said as he motioned over toward a marked spot on the floor in front of a device that looked more like a more advanced mix of a camera and a drone.
"Why?' Danny asked as he stepped onto the marked spot. He kept his arms at his sides and waited for Vlad's cue.
"I may have an idea, but I need to measure how your ectoplasm levels react while transforming and if they fluctuate." He explained before signaling over to him. Danny wordlessly transformed, and Vlad watched on the screen as his levels dipped and then rose quickly. "Okay, now transform back," he watched as Danny's levels dropped again but were now higher than before the transformation. He cursed under his breath and turned to Danny. "You have to stay in your human form for now, until we find a way to fix this."
"What? Why?" Danny asked, surprised and worried more now.
"Your accident that gave you these powers was a much bigger accident than mine. While my accident was a small portal and didn't encompass my entire body right away, yours did. With each transformation since then your levels have slowly become more unstable until now when they have grown out of control, and each transformation-"
"Is only making it worse." Danny nodded as he finished Vlad's sentence. A grim silence rang out between them as they both turned their gaze over to the ghost portal. "What now?" Danny asked quietly, a sense of dread and fear creeping in. He knew that avoiding transformation was just a bandaid on their problem and wouldn't solve it.
"We find a cure before it's too late."

Notes: It's been a while, a lot has happened to me. I'm less than a week from my twenty-third birthday, I've gotten promoted at work (a year ago now) and work full time, and I've gone through a really rough patch that I'm tempted to call heart break. I'm on a thirty day leave from work starting today though, due to COVID-19. I'm not sick, but being careful because I live with immunocompromised people. Throughout all of this this story has been at the back of my mind. I want to finish it, and I plan on using my thirty day leave to at least try to. I haven't written in a long while though, so please be patient. I may still have writers block. That being said, thank you for reading this far. -Em
