Chapter 22
.
After agent Fredo went back to Leita Rose's bed and breakfast to get some sleep, sheriff Duncan went to brief mayor Bowen.
.
Bowen: So Carmen Flint molested both of her daughters?
Duncan: So it would seem.
Bowen: Did she kill Angel?
Duncan: She claims no, seems to believe that Angel committed suicide.
Bowen: What do you think?
Duncan: I don't know.
Bowen: If Carmen were charged with the murder?
Duncan: If I were on the jury, I see reasonable doubt. But I'm a trained lawman. 12 ordinary citizens, they hear the defendant is a chil-molestor, they might convict her purely out of spite.
Bowen: A smart defense lawyer woud ask for a bench trial.
Duncan: Anyway someone had to have carved that pentagram into Angel's chest after she died. That's desecrating a corpse, unless ofcourse they could somehow prove that Angel wanted a pentagram carved into her chest after she died. But for now at least we can't prove her death was homicide.
Bowen: And agent Fredo, has he asked you anymore questions about the Druid Order?
Duncan: No, don't ask me how he even learned of it's existence. Perhaps, if he knew the truth, he could be reasoned with. He might understand that the good we've done, requires secrecy.
Bowen: He did take orders from the magistrate before, even if he didn't know it. Different magistrates but still. I'll take your suggestion up with the Council.
Duncan; Thank you madam mayor. Are you okay?
Bowen: Good days and bad days.
Duncan: The stress of these last few days can't be good for it.
Bowen: It's not, but I knew what I was getting into when I took this job. And if it gets too bad, I'll do what I have to do.
