She was exhausted. The whole night she spent falling asleep only to wake up in fear, checking her room every time to make sure there were no monsters. Yesterday felt like a dream. A very vivid dream. If she had just stayed away from the twins like Isaac said none of this would have happened.
Isaac.
It hurt to think about him too. She was really starting to like him and had fun just before all the madness. And now she knew that he was something beyond normal. Same with Scott. Stiles she wasn't 100% sure about but he didn't seem to do anything different or weird after helping her.
Looking at her phone she knew she needed a new one as soon as possible. It still held a bit of a charge thankfully but the screen would glitch out from time to time making it difficult to use for long periods of time.
And then there was her dad. He tried checking on her multiple times last night but she never left her bed. Just telling him through the door that she didn't feel good and needed to sleep. He knocked on her door again just now.
"Maddy you awake? Look I got called into work so I'm gonna be home late, I have some breakfast on the table in case you get hungry and feel like eating. Call me if you need me ok? Love you kiddo." She listened to his retreating footsteps and waited to hear the faint sound of the front door open and close before finally sitting up.
Looking over at her damp clothes on the floor she figured she needed a good warm shower. The feeling of the water warming her bones felt nice, and was just what she needed to perk up a bit.
After drying off and putting on some fresh clothes she saw that she had a voicemail on her phone. Hesitating a moment she finally played it and listened as Scott's voice was heard.
Hi Madison it's Scott. I know you have no reason to like me or even trust me right now. But I want to apologize for yesterday. And if you'll let me, I want to explain it all to you. I owe you that and so much more. I really do hope you'll come by.
Just thinking about being face to face again scared her a bit. But he did make a point that she regretfully agreed on. She needed a ton of answers, and the only way she'll get them and any measurement of closure is by letting him talk. Making a final decision she finished getting ready, ate a few bites of the food her dad made for her just so it didn't go to waste, and went out the door.
She groaned realizing she would have to walk but was surprised to see that her bicycle was right in front of her, still in perfect condition. Did one of them bring it back? One thing she'll have to try and thank them for.
Getting on she headed straight off to Scott's. She peddled as fast as she could not wanting to get stopped by any crazy twins or who knows what-else again. She took a few back streets to save some time and after 5 minutes, found herself staring at his front door. Taking a deep breath and giving herself the most courage she could, she parked her bike near the garage and walked up the front steps. She reached out her hand to knock but paused doubting herself. She shook a moment and closed her eyes to steady herself. Once she felt ready she lifted her hand again and knocked on the door three times.
Part of her secretly hoped no one was home so she could say she at least tried to come. But luck still didn't seem to be on her side. Only a couple seconds went by before the door was opened and there stood Scott McCall. His body was relaxed, and he was soft when he spoke.
"Thanks for coming." He opened the door further to let her in. Everything looked the same as the last time she came over to hangout in middle school. All those years and it all still seemed comforting to her. I guess she could thank his mom for that, she always made sure the kids were happy and content when they were over, getting them any snacks or drinks they wanted.
He gestured for them to head upstairs to his room which she nodded and followed silently.
Once entering she paused noticing Stiles sitting in the corner of the room. He gave a short awkward wave. She waved back just the same before taking a seat in an empty chair and fidgeted with hands in her lap. Scott took a seat on his bed and sighed wondering where to start.
"I guess there's alot to say and explain. But I just want to start by saying I am so so sorry this happened and you got involved, I never wanted you to. I always wanted to keep you safe." He then went on to tell the story of the past year or so and how he got bitten, how he changed and became a werewolf leading up to why he stopped being friends with her and Carmen. All the drama he and Stiles went through. Derek and the pack he created which started with Isaac. The hunters. All the way up to now with the Alpha's, and that's who the twins were apart of.
It was quite a bit of information to take in and she surely felt dizzy every now and then trying to process it all. Werewolves? That was just scary story stuff, made up. She had no doubt about what she saw though. So was she to just accept it and believe all of it? There was no turning back now, no rewind button for her to push.
She took a moment to get her thoughts together. "Ok"
Scott raised his brows unsure. "Ok? Ok what?"
"As in ok I believe you. But there are things that still don't make sense. Why would Aidan and Ethan come after me. Where was the benefit in using me and almost drowning me?" She asked waiting for some answer to reveal itself.
That's when Isaac entered the room, "Because they were using you to get to me. They knew I liked you, so they took advantage of it. The twins will do anything just to get a reaction out of us and cause trouble. Now we know just how far they will go to do that." He explained keeping his head down. Seeing how upset and tired he was just like her, she realized she must have hurt his feelings. She did scream in his face after all. But no one could blame her for finding out the way she did.
"Well I guess I should apologize too then. For causing any trouble this might have brought for you guys. I don't want to be a burden to any of you or have you worry. If I could just glue myself to my bed I would." She was coming to terms with all of this much better than she thought. She trusted Scott back when they were still friends, and she'll trust him again. Stiles and Isaac too.
Isaac came forward shaking his head. "Don't apologize, we're the ones who should be saying sorry."
Madison gave a small smile, "Scott beat you to that part. But uh, I'll still take another one."
Stiles let out an annoying 'aww' sound making everyone look at him with a face that said 'shut up'. He threw his arms up in question, "What, just feeling the love guys. No harm in that."
Scott just laughed and tossed his pillow at him.
"Well I guess I should head back home. Still need a little time to fully understand all of this. And I need to go bother my dad about a new phone now." Madison said standing up.
"I can drop you off if you want. I'm headed that way to go see my dad at the station so I don't mind." Stiles offered standing up and grabbing his keys. Madison accepted with a smile.
"I'll walk you out." Isaac said leading the way down the stairs.
As Stiles was putting her bike in the back of his jeep Isaac took the moment to talk to her. "Madison I am truly sorry about yesterday. If I had known they would come after you I would have done better to protect you or keep a better eye on you. If something worse had happened I-"
Madison cut him off to reassure him. "Isaac stop. I forgive you. I understand now and It's alright. You warned me about them but I did't listen. That's my lesson that needed to be learned and now it has been. I'm not going anywhere."
Feeling a small weight come off his shoulders he nodded and wrapped her into a tight hug not realizing until it was too late. Just as he was about to pull away she wrapped her arms around him hugging back. He took a deep breath taking in her sweet scent.
"Ready to go if you are" Stiles shouted from his jeep interrupting the moment. Pulling apart Madison waved saying she'd be right there.
"See you at school tomorrow?" Isaac asked letting her go.
"Unfortunately. Don't think I can use evil twins as an excuse to stay home." Madison half-joked.
Madison jumped into the passenger seat and just before Stiles took off she shouted out the window with a smile. "Remember what I said? Can't get rid of me that easily."
Isaac smiled back watching them go. It made him happy now that she knew. But it also meant that things were going to get a lot crazier and dangerous for them all.
