Upon getting to Hoth we land being greeted by many happy faces, they never got in physical contact with us, once we made it to mon Mothma we were debriefed and granted time to sleep, after 3 hrs of resting the ground below us shook in an even pattern as if something was walking on the planet surface, we jump out of bed and get equipped ready for anything, we remembered not too long before we fell asleep we heard Luke talking about a probe droid of some sort.
It had finally cleared, it was an imperial probe droid looking for either the rebels or something more precise but instead of thinking about that we ran out to get ready to defend the base to the best of our ability, we had restocked our ammunition then ran to the best place to start defending, as we got closer to the closest base we saw two AT-AT's and hundreds upon hundreds of snowtroopers running towards the sentry base we were at, we had been the best soldiers for the empire now we were a dangerous threat and we would be killed the moment we could be.
After a few minutes we were in close range with the troopers, all the rebels around us were being slaughtered, all we could do was pull back and stay alive, as we pulled back we all rode a Tauntaun and headed back to the hangar, halfway there my Tauntaun was hit by a blaster bolt and tripped the other Tauntaun's causing them to die throwing Zeta and gamma off, my first reaction was to take cover behind the Tauntaun and start shooting any snowtroopers I saw, zeta and gamma got behind their Tauntaun's and did the same thing, we had barely held them back but when they got too close we started to flee backwards, trying our best to hit them, one by one they were dropping until we made it to the hangar where they started dropping like flies, but our side was suffering the same onslaught, until the hangar was overrun, we then ran to cover the door to the escape while rebels were fleeing past us into the shuttles.
We had lost many men in the battle for Hoth but according to the higher ups hope was how we won, at points there were times I wanted to kill the leader but my morals go against it, I only believed that luck was what kept the rebellion alive, nothing has proven me wrong yet, after the hangar was emptied of rebels we had set up traps to try and slow the troops down and we headed to the transports ourselves, when we got to the room that divided us and the other hangar we realised half the rebels were stuck including us, we took cover and waited, while we were taking cover zeta said with a worried tone "these troops are better then when we were with the empire." I respond "they seem to get better each week"
Gamma jumps over his cover and slid to beside the door, when he was at the door he threw a thermal detonator down the hall and then stood in the open firing as much as he could, I jump to his side and start shooting other troopers, as Zeta joined our side a red dot flew over to the security terminal and suddenly the console blew up, the shields dropped and we started getting surrounded, as we were getting surrounded we ran through the next hangar towards the escape vessel then we saw someone holding an explosive of some sort, we had tried to shoot him but we missed, I tried with my DC-17 blaster pistol and to my surprise I missed with it.
I threw a rock at him and it didn't do anything, he then slid into a trench and placed the explosive, and started defending it while we were distracted by the other snowtroopers, when we reached the trenches the first thing we did was shoot the trooper, this time killing him, I yelled to gamma "Gamma the bomb, try to deactivate it." He responded, "on it sir!" then he ran over to it and started looking at how to deactivate it while we were in the trenches firing at the snowtroopers that were approaching us, suddenly I hear a yell of pain from Gamma, I turn to see him on his side grasping his arm, I grabbed a stim pack and dove over to him, when I reach his side I stab the stim-pack needle into his arm and say, "your not allowed to die. Keep fighting, this war will be over soon, but until then keep fighting!" as soon as I remove the stim-pack needle I turn and keep firing at the snowtroopers while gamma got back on his knees and kept trying to deactivate the bomb, it had been a minute since the bomb was placed, this war was far from over at this rate, we had rebels dropping like flies, and the snowtroopers seemed to double every second we kept fighting, but as true soldiers we never gave up fighting, that's what made us the best, we pushed the limits, we trusted our team, we worked together, and most of all we stuck together as a family, losing a clone was as bad as losing both mother and father for us, that's all we had, our will and our fellow clones.
Another 2 minutes went by, the bomb was set for a five minute timer and we were almost surrounded once more, we had been fighting for ages making sure we didn't get flanked, making sure the bomb didn't go off and making sure Gamma stayed alive, he was the only person who was trained with advanced explosives in our squad, Zeta and I were the weapons expert, epsilon was the medic and beta was the tech expert, as we kept fighting the bomb was counting down quickly then after realising the type of bomb gamma yelled to us, "move out of the trench, this bomb can't be disarmed lets move out." As we turned to leave the trench we saw the rogue shadow in the distance and started running towards it while avoiding the blaster bolts, we had made it a good ten metres away from the bomb when it had exploded, the snowtroopers ran through the smoke as if it wasn't there, when we had made It closer to the rogue shadow suddenly Gamma had fallen with a burn mark on his back, I had used the last stim-pack I had earlier to help with his arm, we had never had a rest from losing squad members, you'd think we'd be used to it by now, but truthfully you can never get over losing family.
After seeing gamma on the floor I rushed over to him and started dragging him to the rogue shadow as I did so I yelled to Zeta, "Cover us!" Zeta had run in front of us and started covering fire, while he did so I hoisted Gamma up onto my arm and tried to carry him to the rogue shadow, we had made it but we knew this was the last we'd see of gamma, when we were aboard the rogue shadow I told Zeta to get us of this rock and see if you can follow the rest of the rebels." He nodded and I started shooting the snowtroopers waiting for the ramp to close, once it was closed I rushed zeta to the med bay removed mine and his helmet and tried to heal him but the last thing that happened was gamma handing me his dog tag, a letter and betas dog tag while he said "Beta's my brother, you need to protect zeta, I will be reunited with beta in the afterlife, don't let this weigh you down, fight in honour of those who have fallen not for vengeance against those who have killed the fallen." His last gasp had released from his mouth as I grabbed the items, once he had died my brown eyes had started to fill with tears, I lean my head on Gammas chest sobbing, before I leave I say to Gammas corpse, "I will always fight in honour of my fallen brothers, I always have." I grab my helmet and put it back on and grab Gammas helmet and place it beside epsilons in Gamma compartment, I remove my helmet once more and open the letter and start reading, the letter says:
To Lucky,
We have fought at each other's side for many of years, I always believed you would survive no matter what…
You are a survivor and always have been, if your reading this I have fallen in battle, don't mourn me but remember me through the years to come.
the best part of life is death, you cant have one without the other but, you must survive to see it, there's always light in the distance you just need to look.
Honour is the best trait to have, being a survivor is even better, being fearless stops people from cowering.
No matter what I will always be at your side, fighting alongside you was the best part of my life.
Keep fighting.
Regards,
Gamma
After reading tears fell on the top of my helmet, I bury my head into my hands and start sobbing even more.
