Chapter Twenty-Four: Katara
His body covered me in a blanket of wildfire. My lips still swollen from our fiery kiss. It was everything that kissing Aang wasn't.
When I kissed Zuko I couldn't breath. His flames selfishly leached the air away from my lungs so they could thrive. I was convinced my body was nothing more than kindling and he just set me alight. The heat didn't cease.
My water was never too far behind. It embraced his flame like an old friend, our elements joining like our lips. His tongue slipped into my mouth with little opposition, exploring and flicking my own in kind. When he flared up my water was there to cool us. When my water threatened to drown us both his fire calmed my waves. He left me trembling above him.
Push and pull.
The balance between us scared me more than anything; and once I finally broke off our kiss I did nothing but stare at him in awe. At his beauty, at his strength, his selflessness. I wondered if he felt it too as my heart palpitated in my throat.
It already seemed like a lifetime ago but my body still hummed pleasantly, like it was waiting.

Suki was speaking to me. I watched as her mouth moved but I couldn't hear a thing she was saying. I shook my head, "I'm sorry, what did you say?"
She groaned, "Katara, what do you think you were doing!? How long has this been going on? What about Aang?"
'Aang.'
I cradled my head in my hands. Aang went to bed for the night and here I am making out with one of his best friends.
"Hey, hey, it's ok just tell me what happened." Her calming tone did anything but calm me. "Send for Kiri, I'm going to need her here for this."
Suki said nothing and went to one of the guards outside my door. She returned a moment later. "How long has this been going on, Katara?"
My eyes met hers, at least this was an easy answer. "It just started I guess, it's the first time we've ever kissed." I stared down at my palms feeling like a monster as I began to crave his blistering hands on my thighs once more.
My mind playing out the kiss over and over. Then his teeth were at my neck, his lips moving lower...his tongue like lava down my navel, still continuing lower…as my brain marveled at the possibilities; arousal swirling in the apex of my thighs.
"Princess Katara?" I smiled gently upon hearing her voice, grateful she pulled me from my fantasies, "come in, Kiri." The door creaked and she waltzed in eyeing Suki. "Kiri, this is my brother's fiance, Suki, she's a long time friend."
Kiri just smiled saying nothing else. "You wanted her here, she's here. Tell me what happened." Kiri looked concerned but stayed quiet.
I took a deep breath and told them everything. To Kiri's credit she did not squeal, but I didn't miss her smile when I spoke about mine and Zuko's forbidden kiss.
"I was so excited to see Aang, and don't get me wrong, I love him. I really do. When he and I kissed, even after all this time apart it was just that…a kiss, and I think he felt it too, like we were both waiting for something extraordinary to happen. But with Zuko, the world stopped turning and I felt everything, like I was a live wire."
"Just leave Aang then."
I gaped at her. Suki did too. "Kiri, I can't just leave Aang, he's the Avatar. And what happens if he finds out about Zuko? Do you know how bad that looks? I can hear the stories now, 'Water Tribe Princess whore throws away Avatar for the Fire Lord.'" She just shrugs.
"You guys aren't even together. I fail to see an issue." Kiri looked unphased.
"Besides the fact that part of me loves Aang? Not the Avatar, just Aang. The man he's become and the things he's overcame." I argued back.
"So you've got a thing for guys with a tragic backstory?" I wanted to laugh at Kiri, but it just seemed too accurate to argue.
"Look Katara, we can't decide this for you, you have to make a decision and whatever that choice is you have to make it soon. Iroh, Aang and Toph will leave next week after the council meetings on Ba Sing Se.
"Sokka told me he will take your place in the meantime, it should give you enough time away from both guys to make a decision." Suki spoke in a way that had me believing her.
It was a good plan, and honestly, the only one I had.
