Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 22
Weeks Later
Lucas took a deep breath as he reviewed all his missed calls and voicemails. He had avoided meeting with his doctor for days now. Something he had never done. It was different this time. The test results he had been avoiding would change everything and he wasn't ready for the fallout.
Haley felt this large amount of relief knowing that money would not be a concern for herself or her children. Even so she would still work as a teacher her job at the high school was one she truly enjoyed and found great fufillment in. The next matters taking up space in her mind and heart were dealing with the outcome of her going to the police and giving them a copy of Nathan's letter which was proof that Carrie had been stalking him and the written out confession that it was her who murdered him was all the police needed to get a warrant for her arrest.
Haley felt safer knowing Carrie was in police custody had no money to pay the bail and would end up going to jail for killing her husband and the father of her children.
Haley was consumed with fear and uneasiness since she was facing a custody fight over Jamie between Deb and Deb.

"Since we are all about honesty and openess i need to tell you something." Lucas said. Looking to Brooke.
Brooke focused her gaze on him. "I'm listening. What is it Luke.?" She asked.
"I got testing for Huntington's disease. It runs my family. My mom's parents had it they died from it. She didn't get it but she's been encouranging me to get tested since i got into my 20's because there are cases when people start showing symptoms that early on."
"I know everything about this condition. It isn't just my life i have to be accountable for. Astrid has gone through so much already.I won't make her endure this too. I'll make arrangements to make sure she won't have to worry or anyone else i love." Lucas said.
Brooke took his hand in hers. "We'll get through this together regardless of the results. I'll go with you." She said. Wrapping her arms around him. Resting her head on his chest. Wanting to make sure he never saw her fear.

Days Later
Brooke and Lucas sat across from Lucas's doctor at his office.
The man reviewed the file then looked to Lucas.
"Huntington's disease is an inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain. Huntington's disease has a broad impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking (cognitive) and psychiatric disorders."
"The life expectancy is 20 years once the symptoms begin to show up. After the start of Huntington's disease, a person's functional abilities gradually worsen over time. The rate of disease progression and duration varies. The time from disease emergence to death is often about 10 to 30 years."
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this Lucas but you tested positive for Huntington's disease." The doctor said.
Brooke tightened her grip on his hand.
