Beautiful You Chapter 12

I own nothing!

"How do you always end up with something injured when I'm not around?" a voice asked, pulling me from my deep sleep.

I felt like I had slept for hours and hours, but also as if I hadn't slept at all. That's what pain pills do to you, I reminded myself as I gently rolled over. And that's why we only take them when we absolutely have to. Why am I talking to myself? I wondered as I slowly opened my eyes to see who had woke me up from my deep sleep.

"Why is it that this is the second day in a row that you woke me up at an ungodly hour, Jacob Black!" I complained, throwing my arm over my eyes. "This is Sunday, the day before Monday, when I have to go back to school."

"Bells, it's afternoon, " Jake informed me from where he was spinning around in my old office chair that sat in front of my desk.

I set up quickly, hissing as I moved my leg the wrong way and grabbed my phone to check the time. I had two new messages.

"Careful, Bells! Jesus I didn't mean to freak you out," Jacob said as he stopped spinning to look at me with concern.

"You ass, it's only 10:30," I complained, throwing one of my pillows at the over grown boy child, causing him to laugh as he caught it.

"Charlie said I could wake you up," Jake informed me.

"Traitor," I mumbled as I opened the first message.

"Hi, Muffin. I haven't talked to you in a few days. Thought I would check in on you and make sure you are still on your cleanses. Call me!"

I sighed and deleted the message, knowing I would have to call her and let her know what had happened. I could only imagine what she would have to say about it.

Then I looked at the other message, the contact name stating "Wolf Man". I snorted, laughing at how Jared had decided to name hiself in my phone.

"Good morning, Bell! I hope you had a good nights sleep and that you aren't in too much pain this morning. I hope you have a restful day and that you take it east. Let me know if you need anything at all. I will be there as quickly as I can! - Your Wolf Man

"What's so funny, Bells?" Jake asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

"Jared. He put his number in my phone yesterday and instead of his name he labeled himself, 'Wolf Man'."

"About that Bells," Jake started, getting up and coming over to sit on the side of my bed. "I'm so sorry that you had to find out that our legends are true the way that you did. I had planned on telling you, but not that way."

"I understand, Jake," I assured him, patting his hand. "I know now that sometimes it's hard to control your temper, because this is all pretty new to you, right?"

"Yeah, I just became a wolf about a month before you got here. Sam had wanted to keep me away from you because it's not safe, but my dad and Charlie argued against it. You are my best friend, Bells. I could never hurt you and I have waited too damn long for you to come home. We all have, " he stated, smiling at me.

"I'm glad I'm home, too," I agreed, reaching out to pull him in for a hug. "If only I hadn't fractured my damn foot a week after getting back."

Jake shook his head, grinning. "How did you hurt yourself anyway?"

I told him a shortened version of the tale, leaving out the list on who could be the Cold Ones. He didn't need to know that I figured out that the Cullen's were Forks' resident vampires.

"Only you could fall down the stairs and come out of it with just a fracture," he laughed, slapping his knee.

"Just a fracture, my ass!" I exclaimed, moving to try and reach for the dreaded crutches. "This hurts like hell."

"I know, Bells. I'm just messing with you. Do you need help?" He asked as he stood and held his hand out, as if to catch me.

"I've got to learn how to do this if I want to be able to make it through the day tomorrow," I told him as I adjusted the crutches under my arms, causing myself to almost fall over. Thankfully Jake was there to help me right myself. "But if you wouldn't mind spotting me while I try and learn, I would be very thankful."

"Of course, Bells," he agreed, following my slow progress out of the room.

He patiently waited for me as I used the bathroom and brushed my very tangled hair and deciding just to throw it up in a ponytail so that it would be out of my way. I hobbled toward the stairs and wondered how the hell I would get down those stairs.

"How did you get up the stairs last night?" Jacob wondered, as he waited for me to decide how to concur the stairs.

"With much difficulty," I admitted. "I thought I was going to fall and flatten Charlie at the bottom of the stairs."

"Stop that Bells," he scolded me, looking down the stairs. "I could just carry you down them."

"What is with you wolves wanting to carry me everywhere?" I demanded.

"Hey, I love ya, Bells, but I don't want to carry you everywhere. I just offered to help you down the stairs," Jake said, holding up his hands as if he was surrendering. "Wait did Jared want to carry you everywhere yesterday?" he asked, a huge grin spreading across his face.

"Will you please carry me down the stairs, Jake?" I asked sweetly, ignoring the question, causing the big butt to start laughing.

"Only if you tell me all about being carried around all day yesterday," Jake bargained.

Sighing, I nodded. "Okay."

Jacob swept me up into his arms as if I weighed nothing as he literally ran down the stairs, leaving my crutches at the top of the stairs.

"Jacob Black, why the hell are you running down those stairs with my daughter in your arms with a broken ankle?" Charlie demanded, glaring as Jacob put me down in one of the kitchen chairs

"She needed help down the stairs so I just wanted to help her, Charlie," Jacob replied, turning and running back up the stair to get my crutches.

"But did you have to run like a two your old?" I asked, taking my crutches and leaning them against the wall.

"Next time I'll be more careful, Bells," he promised, sitting next to me as Charlie handed me a bowl, some cereal and milk.

"Thanks, dad," I said pouring the flakes into my bowl. Jake got up and grabbed a second bow before sitting back down and taking the box as I handed it to him.

"Make yourself at home Jake," Charlie said, grinning into his coffee.

"Thanks, Chief," he said, shoveling the pieces of cereal into his mouth.

"How's your foot, Bells?" my Dad asked.

"It's a little sore, but nothing I can't handle right now," I replied.

Charlie nodded, knowing that I hated how the pain pills made me feel. "Just don't wait too long before you take it."

"I won't," I assured him. "Why aren't you fishing with Billy and Harry today?"

"There was no way I was going to let you stay here by yourself the day after you broke your ankle, Bells. I will go next week if you are okay, but you are stuck with me all day today."

I smiled, touched by dad taking the time from his weekend to make sure I was okay. "If that's what you want."

Charlie nodded and picked up the paper that was on the table as Jake and I finished out cereal.

"What are you doing today, Jake?" I asked trying to stand to take my bow to the sink, only to have my best friend have it out of my hands and over to the sink before I could even get up.

"I have to leave in a few minutes to go on patrol. I just wanted to come over and apologize for yesterday."

"And eat out food," Charlie added.

"Always, Charlie,"Jake agreed, grinning.

"If you need anything Bells, just call my house and someone will be there and will be able to find me," Jake said as he came around the table to hug me.

"I will be here, Jacob. You do realize that, right?" Charlie said, raising an eyebrow as Jake shook his hand.

"Of course," he nodded, before grinning. "But there are some things that a wolf can do that even the Chief of police isn't able to do. See you later!" he yelled as he ran out the back door laughing.

"Damn cocky little shit," Charlie mumbled, standing to put his coffee cup in the sink.

"But you love him," I grinned.

"That's debatable," Charlie replied, sitting back down with me while I finished off my coffee.

"What did you have planned for the day, Bells?"

"Well, I finished cleaning the house yesterday, thankfully. I was planning on going to the store to stock up on some stuff, but I obviously can't drive right now. I guess now I've also got to figure out how I'm getting to and from school too," I added, stumped at what I was going to do.

"Well kid, I can take you to the store and we can get you one of the wheelchairs with a basket and I can wheel you around the store if you like," he offered. "And WE will figure out how to get you to and from school."

I laughed picturing him rolling me through the store. "Are you sure you don't mind?"

"I don't mind at all, kid. We might have to adjust that list I saw on the fridge because I have no clue how to cook any of that," he replied.

"Just because I'm in this cast doesn't mean that I can't still cook, dad. I've done it before, I can do it again," I told him. "I just might be a little slower."

"You are not responsible for all the cooking and cleaning in this house. I appreciate your willingness to help make sure that things look great around here, but I will not treat you like Cinderella. We are a family; a team, and when a team member is injured, the rest of the team rallies and makes things happen. So, I will let you try and cook but I WILL be right here helping you, okay kid?" Charlie declared. I know he was determined to make sure that while I was with him, I was treated fairly and that I always felt love and accepted. I felt tears form in my eyes as I slowly stood and hobbled over and hugged him.

"Okay, Dad. I will let you help me. I'm kind of like my old man though. I'm kind of a stubborn thing."

Charlie cleared his throat and laughed, wiping his eyes quickly, ignoring his own teary eyes. "Don't I know it! Let's get ready to go so that we can get you back here to get that leg up."

Almost an hour later we were ready to leave for the store. It took us thirty minutes to back up the stairs.

"I've got to do something about this," Charlie mumbled once we got up the stairs."

Thankfully it only took me ten minutes to get down. I turned into a two year old and slowly slid my ass down the stairs, being careful not to hit my leg too many times.

By the time we got in my truck, I was exhausted.

"You alright, kid?" my dad asked as he drove down the road.

"Yeah, just tired," I admitted.

"You know, I bought my own groceries for many years. If you want me to, I can let you stay in the truck while I go in," he offered.

"No thanks, Dad. You promised me a ride in one of those grocery store wheelchairs."

"That I did,Bells," he laughed as he pulled in to the parking lot and found the closest spot he could.

I wobbled my way into the store, Charlie hovering behind me. He found a wheelchair, the only one they had in the store and helped me sit.

"Where the hell should we put these things?" Charlie asked as he put the basket down over my lap. He looked at my crutches as if they were the devil.

"What if we lay them under this basket and through the arm holes?" I suggested. "You just wouldn't be able to wheel me around like a bat outta hell."

"Or I can ask if they will hold them for us up here," he said, walking them over to one of the cashiers and leaving them with her.

We started in the produce section and I picked out different fruits and veggies.

"What the hell do we need avocado for?!" Charlie demanded, looking terrified.

"I know you hate them, but I like to slice them and put them on sandwiches and tacos."

"You're going to make tacos?" he asked, grinning. There weren't many good Mexican restaurants in the Pacific Northwest and Charlie had discovered on one of our many adventures that he loved Mexican food.

"Yes, dad. They're really not that, OOF!"I cut myself off as Charlie turned a corner and ran into something, thankfully on my left side.

"Oh, I am so sorry! Are you alright?" a kind female voice gasped.

"Bella?" a more masculine voice asked.

I looked up to see a beautiful woman, with honey brown hair and kind golden eyes. Standing beside her was someone who I had seen the day before in my kitchen. Someone who knew that I knew exactly who or what he was and I hadn't freaked out. Maybe because of all of the pain I had been in or maybe it was because earlier that day I had witnessed my best friend turn into a giant wolf. Whatever it was, it allowed me to look up at him, smile and say, "Hi Emmett."
