Author's Notes: I honestly had this one done before chapter 20, because like I said, that one gave me such a hard time. I was going to wait to post this until I updated the rest of my WIPs, but these next chapters are killing me. If someone finds the inspiration I had last week, when I was writing up a storm in 2 days, please send it back. Also, I am literally hitting myself when it comes to the way I formatted this story. Why. Did. I. Choose. To. Do. This. Especially since Seto and Naomi's chapters are typically going to have more action but I need to fit the Noah and Mokuba story lines in with the correct timing. Anyway, as per my format, this is back in the present day, 2 years after chapter 20's flashback.

Somehow Seto, who rarely – if ever – fell behind on work, had managed to not get anything done for the annual benefit except the guest list throughout his whole work day. Even that wasn't as much of a win as he wished it seemed, because it was practically the same guest list as last year. He mostly had to double check, add a few names, and eventually check with his siblings. They each had a few people they could invite and sit with themselves, and they were the only ones not solidified on the list.

He found himself working through the rest of his siblings' punishments. He'd warned them of chores that would be paid back with allowances, but he hadn't yet expanded on that yet. He pulled up an excel sheet, listing the chores he thought it would be best to have them contribute, just a few since they'd also be in charge of their own rooms and bathrooms.

He tried a few combinations of assigning the aforementioned chores, but nothing he tried seemed entirely fair. Unfair. A complaint it felt like he'd been hearing a lot lately. He could just hear all of their voices complaining that someone else got easier chores or accusing him of favoritism. He was already waiting for it to blow up when the boys realized Naomi was allowed to go to her practices after school.

He didn't have a favorite or least favorite sibling. He knew the perception was always that he was closest to Mokuba, and that was mostly true, but how could it not be? He didn't care so much about the whole blood-brother versus stepsibling technicality, but he'd been Mokuba's big brother for the other boy's whole life. They had years of bonding before ever meeting the other two, through some of the most tough experiences children could ever have gone through. Even in the years since they'd gotten adopted, Mokuba was always there to cheer him on at Duel Monsters tournaments or stay up to hear about progress with his father's lessons. Now, even, he'd be the one to show up at the office to hear about updates on whatever project Seto was working on.

He was closest to Naomi in terms of age, and she was more than accepting of him when he'd gotten adopted. Mokuba had always seemed to idolize him, but Seto had learned early that Naomi had all these ideals about what having an older brother meant, and he'd certainly tried to live up to them. Gozaburo's backwards thinking had kept her and him from being able to participate in many of the same things when they were younger – he had to learn business and tech, while Naomi was pushed into music lessons and figure skating – but she'd always wanted him to be there for her and he was more than willing to take on that role. When high school came around, they still shared a bond when she became best friends with his girlfriend's younger brother and then more so when she began dating his biggest rival. If he had to pinpoint when all had gone to utter, for lack of a better word, shit, it was when she left Atem for the dirtbag she was dating now. It couldn't be a coincidence that she was distancing herself from her whole family right when she started seeing Jagger.

Noah was always the one Seto had a bit of a sibling rivalry with. Maybe they were just too alike to ever stop clashing. He had never seemed to like Seto from when they first met, despite seeming to grow close to Mokuba almost immediately. He had basically been a mini-me of Gozaburo, and a total spoiled brat on top of it all (which, clearly, he had not grown out of), but Seto was perceptive. He knew it wasn't really the kid's fault. He'd recognized even as a child what a monster his stepfather was, and he wasn't any nicer to his blood children than his adopted ones. He knew the lessons Gozaburo gave with him and Noah were some twisted competition, always holding the company over their heads and using them to insult the other. Seto didn't vie for his approval, but Noah always did, parroting his words and demeanor. Seto wasn't fighting for approval or the company though; he was fighting for survival, and not just for himself. So, if bettering his adopted brother and keeping up the competition was what he needed to do for the sake of all of them, he'd do it. In a perfect world, he'd have been able to bond with Noah in private like their mother always wanted and then keep up the charade of competition for Gozaburo, but Noah had never seemed interested, so he did his best to watch out for Noah from the sidelines.

He had always thought he'd been a good older brother. Maybe that needed different qualifications than guardian.

He packed up his stuff, resigning to not be able to do anything else productive for the benefit. He had to get home; if he wanted real change in his siblings, he had to be there to make sure they were actually doing what they were supposed to be doing.

If there were two words everyone in the Kaiba family was getting sick of hearing, it was family meeting. Yet, here they were, once again seated on a couch as the eldest stood in front of them. Seto grabbed the upside-down hat he'd placed on the coffee table and held it out to them, starting with Mokuba.

"Oh, no thanks, Seto. I don't like how hats look with my hair," he quipped, smile growing as he heard Noah's snort beside him. Naomi hid her mouth behind a hand, not wanting any of her brothers to see her fighting a laugh.

One look quieted them down, the smile dropping from Mokuba's face as he reached into the hat and pulled out a slip. He opened it up, face scrunching up as he read aloud, "Clean the kitchen? Huh?"

The three on the couch looked up at their brother, each wearing a face of confusion. "Chores. This was the easiest way to decide who has to do what, I'm not wasting my time trying to figure out what's fair on who or letting you all fight it out. It's all luck of the draw."

"I thought you don't believe in luck of the draw," Noah said, reaching into the hat. Seto didn't answer, just narrowed his eyes. "I'm just saying," he mumbled, unfolding the paper and groaning. "Sweep and mop. Okay, that could be worse…"

Noami sighed, taking her turn and pursing her lips. "Wash and dry the laundry. Wait. I have to do everyone's laundry?" Seto nodded and she scoffed. "You can't be serious. I have to wash the clothes of three teenage boys? That's so gross."

They went for a few rounds of this until the chores were distributed. "You are all in charge of your own rooms and bathrooms and expected to clean up after yourselves. That means if you make a mess in the game room, you will clean up the mess in the game room. Have I made myself clear?"

He was met with a lackluster chorus of yeahs, but it was satisfactory. He nodded in response, looking at the three sitting on the couch, who in turn stared up at him expectantly. He wanted, in that moment, to say something. Anything. Well, not anything, really – anything meaningful. Encouraging. Just once, he wished the spirit of his adopted mother would take over and he'd be able to say something she'd have said.

But instead, he inadvertently took a page from Gozaburo's book, keeping his head up and walking away from them.

Author's Notes: Okay, so this was once again more of an exposition than the real action, but it was important exposition. I can't recall if I said something about this yet, but within the four siblings, they each have someone (they think) they don't really get along with or have much in common with, but it turns out (spoiler alert) they do. Noah and Seto were the obvious ones for each other, and Mokuba and Naomi already had a couple of scenes where you could tell they don't really see eye-to-eye.
