"She reminds me of the pretty girl every guy fell in love with in high school."
"The one that got away?"
"No. The one I married."
Detective Danny Reagan sat at his desk, thinking about the case. The murder victim plagued his mind, she eerily looked like his wife had looked in high school. Pretty, blonde, a little unsure of herself, but absolutely knowing what she wanted. He smiled as he thought about the first time he spoke her.
"Hey, Jimmy!" A blonde somewhat bounced over to the boy and his best friend. She wore a floral top with a pink skirt and ballet flats. "Can I burrow your mix tape machine-y thingie?"
"Lemme think..." Jimmy paused for a second, "mmmm... no. Go away."
"If you don't let me borrow it, I'll tell Mom that you were the one who broke her 16th century something-or-other dynasty vase thing."
"You wouldn't do that. The answer's still no." Jimmy's friend watched the siblings bicker, although he was more focused on the blonde.
She quickly grabbed Jimmy's arm, and yanked it behind his back, "You'll let me borrow it."
"Yeah, okay, fine. Let go, squirt."
She pulled a little, "don't call me squirt!"
"Sorry, Sorry. Let go, sis."
She let his arm go, "thank you. You're such a good brother." She showed them her teeth then walked away.
Jimmy shook his head, "my kid sister. She's crazy, huh?" He looked to his right where his friend should've been, "Danny?"
"Hey.. Hey! Wait a minute!" Danny walked up to the blonde.
"Yes?"
"What was that?"
"What was what?" She pushed her hair behind her ear.
"That. Back there."
"Oh, you mean this?" She yanked Danny's arm behind him, Just as fast as she yanked Jimmy's arm backwards.
"Yeah! That!" He looked behind him, "Where'd ya learn to do that?"
She let go and stepped in front of him, "my Dad taught me. After all, I'm a sixteen year old girl in New York. Bad stuff happens."
He smiled, "so you're Jimmy's sister?"
"Uh huh, Linda," she held out her hand.
"Danny." He shook her hand.
"Danny Who?"
"Danny Reagan."
Linda nodded, "I didn't hurtcha, did I?"
"What? Uh, no."
"Good."
"Reagan!"
"What?" Danny looked up at his partner.
"Are you okay? You seem kinda... out of it." Baez frowned.
"Just thinkin'. I'm okay, though... we got anything new?"
"Not really... we could go back to the ME's office. See if we missed anything."
Danny nodded, "that's a good idea."
