The Boys

"Does anyone want a drink?" Janet asked, "You? You want a drink?" She pointed to Thea.

"Fuck off." Thea spat as Janet nodded.

"That's nice." Janet said, walking through to the kitchen.

"Why are you here?" AJ whispered, looking across at her daughter's.

"To stop you. Little late, I guess." Jude nodded.

"You came here willingly?" Punk asked as Jude nodded.

"Until our cab driver turned into a kidnapper." Thea told them.

"Yeah, I have some friends of mine working on the cabs." Janet walked back over, listening to everything they were saying, "They keep an eye on the streets, tell me about any movement. Like my own private police." She nodded.

"Let them go." Punk said as Janet shook her head.

"No, they're gonna stay." Janet nodded to him, sitting down at the top of the table, "Phil, did you say grace as a child?" She asked, loading the gun as she pointed it at Cassie who was in and out consciousness.

"No." Punk gritted his teeth.

"We did." Janet nodded, "You remember April?" She asked as AJ looked over at her, "You must be wondering what I want from you… Right?" She asked, "Despite what you might think, I'm not just doing this cause I'm bored."

"You're doing it cause you're a psycho." Jude said, shaking her arms behind her, trying to untie her hands from being stuck together.

"Shut up." Janet said.

"Why are you doing this?" AJ shook her head, looking down the table at her mother.

"Well I'm not getting any younger, that's a fact." Janet nodded, "So I need to know this carries on once I'm old and senile."

"You're already old and senile." Thea spat as Janet looked over at her.

"You girls have a lot to say, don't you?" Janet looked at them, "Let me talk." She pointed the gun at her as Thea glared over, "As I was saying, I need to know what I've built is in good hands. And I'll be honest, I don't like any of you. I really don't." She shook her head, "One of you is a cop, for crying out loud." She groaned, looking at Cassie who spat over at her, some blood landing on Janet's arm.

"You're gonna burn." Cassie mumbled as Janet rolled her eyes.

"You all look like your mother and act like your dumb father." Janet shook her head.

"You're not gonna be around long enough to pass on any business to anyone. It's dying with you." Punk assured her, "And it's dying with you soon."

"I'll be dead before you force this on us." AJ spat.

"Oh… you think I'm talking about you five?" Janet waved the gun back and forth between them, "You're kidding, right? I'm looking at five extremely fucked up individuals."

"That's rich coming from you." Thea scoffed.

"I mean… it's true." Janet said, "Like I'd be able to trust you lot." She chuckled, "Here we have Mister Prison. A liability." She looked at Punk, "April you're just a sheep. You just let everyone get you into trouble. You've always been that way. Sneaking off with him and letting him get you into bother-"

"Oh, because my home life was so legal, mom, wasn't it?!" AJ exclaimed as Janet scoffed.

"And then we have a crackhead. Nobody trusts a crackhead." Janet looked over at Thea, "Then we have the vulnerable one. Little fucked up in the head, aren't we?" She nodded to Jude who glared back at her, "And then a cop." She turned to Cassie, "You're not the dream team I'm looking for, I'll be honest."

"What a shame. I guess you'll have to look elsewhere then." Punk nodded.

"I won't have to look too far." Janet assured him, "Of course it's gonna take a little bit of time but… with your cooperation, I say it'll work out very well." She nodded as AJ and Punk looked at her with confusion.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Punk shook his head.

"I'm talking about James, Sofia and Mirren." Janet shrugged, as if it was obvious and normal. Thea and Jude immediately turned around, looking over at Janet who stared back at them, "Bad idea to come chase your parents, girls." She nodded.

"Ok, what did mommy leave for your dinner tonight, huh?" Sean asked, carrying Mirren out to the kitchen, "I bet you hope it's not more carrots. I hope it's not more carrots." He nodded, looking in the fridge as Mirren pretended she was looking with him.

"Looks like you're having… chicken and rice." Sean nodded, picking out one of the pre-made meals Jude had made for Mirren. He took his hat off to his wife, she was the best mother to their daughter.

"You excited about that?" Sean asked Mirren, sitting her over in her high chair, "This is where mommy would start asking you to say rice." He nodded, strapping her into her little high chair, turning her around so she could watch him heat up her dinner. She liked watching.

"Can you say rice?" Sean asked, walking over to the stove to start cooking up his own dinner, "It's an easy word to say." He said, cutting up some bread.

"Ice!" Mirren yelled as Sean turned around with raised eyebrows.

"Hey." Sean laughed to himself, "Yeah, that's it." He nodded, walking over to her and crouching down, "Rice." He nodded.

"Ice." Mirren repeated as Sean smiled, flicking her little nose.

"You're so clever. Mommy's gonna be so happy that your first word was a carb. So happy." Sean nodded, "Bummer she missed it, though." He frowned a little, walking back over to the counter to continue chopping.

He continued prepping dinner, listening to Mirren bang around on her high chair happily, his ears suddenly picking up on the sound of a gun cracking, freezing as he looked over at the window, noticing a man in the reflection with a black mask on and gun pointed at him.

"Don't move." The man demanded as Sean kept his hands up, watching him in the window as he edged over to Mirren.

Certain advantages came with being a cop. Like being trained for situations like this. Like being trained how to fight properly. Especially with years of experience.

He quickly turned around, grabbing the gun the man was holding and pushing it up to the ceiling, elbowing him in the face, kneeing him in the gut and throwing him head first into the oven as it smashed, glass shattering onto the floor as the man slumped down into an unconscious heap on the floor.

Sean took a deep breath, grabbing the gun from the floor and looking over at Mirren who began clapping.

"Thanks, sweetie." Sean gulped, his heart racing as he looked down at the man on the kitchen floor with paranoia and worry.

"Hey, Theo is it?" Dominic answered the door as he saw Theo standing outside.

"Yeah." Theo nodded, "Yeah, your… your Thea's husband, right?"

"Yeah. Dominic." Dominic nodded, "But you can call me Thea's husband if you want." He said, "Come in." He said, letting Theo into the house as he walked on in.

"Thanks." Theo nodded, "Sorry, I don't mean to drop by unannounced like this." He said.

"Don't worry about it. What's up?" He asked, walking through to the kitchen with him.

"I think… I think the girls might be in trouble." Theo nodded, "Thea, Jude, Cassie." He said, "Their parents too."

"Yeah, Thea hasn't… she hasn't called me since they landed." Dominic said nervously, "She's really bad with her phone, though so… you know." He shrugged anxiously, folding his arms and then unfolding them.

"Why'd you let her go?" Theo shook his head, "They should not be over there."

"I didn't. I was upstairs with the kids, came downstairs to a note." Dominic said, "If she told me in person I… I'd do everything to make sure she didn't go. Believe me."

"I got a call from Cassie. She was after Janet's address. They think their parents got a PI and got her address. They're worried about them and I think they're gonna end up in a lot of danger. And I can't exactly drive to them. Cops work differently over there too. We only control so much of it." He said nervously.

"When you spoke to Cassie, did she say what their plan was?" Dominic asked.

"I told her to go to this older women I stayed with when I was undercover down there." He explained, "All my files are still there, not important ones but… you know, notetaking and shit. Left a few guns too so at least they have weapons to defend themselves. Cassie knows what she's doing. She's a good cop. She's a little under the weather right now, that stab wound still weighing her down but… but she can handle herself." Theo nodded confidently, almost talking to himself.

"I've tried calling Thea a few times but… I've got nothing back." Dominic said.

"Why the hell didn't they just stay put?" Theo sighed stressfully, running his hands through his hair as Dominic sighed.

"Can't you contact the cops over there?" Dominic questioned.

"Doesn't work like that." Theo shook his head.

"How the fuck does it work then? If we know they're in danger, that's enough cause for cops to check it out-"

"Shh…" Theo whispered as Dominic looked at him with confusion, "Are you expecting anyone?" He asked as Dominic shook his head.

"No." Dominic said.

"Where are the kids?" Theo asked.

"They're watching a movie. What… What's up?" Dominic shook his head as Theo opened up the kitchen door slowly.

"Get down!" Theo exclaimed, looking across the hallway at the man in a black mask pulling the trigger, diving down with Dominic onto the ground as Theo took his gun out, extending it out and shooting the man in the ankles.

"What the hell?!" Dominic exclaimed.

"Stay there." Theo got to his feet quickly, running into the living room as he saw a second man with Sofia in his arms and James by his side, "Put her down." Theo held his gun out, "Put her down and let them go." He made clear, only able to see the man's eyes through the mask.

He watched as the man slowly put Sofia down on the ground. Theo knew he had a good enough aim, shooting the man on the shoulder as he fell over onto the ground.

"Ok, kids… out to the kitchen. Come on." Theo nodded frantically as they ran away, "That's it. You're ok." He assured them, watching as they ran off to their dad in the kitchen.

He walked over to the man in the living room, turning him around as he realised he shot him dead. He then quickly ran out to the hallway where the other man was lying in pain.

"Ok, buddy. Let's do some talking." Theo stood on his shot ankle as he yelled out in pain, "Did Janet send you?!" He exclaimed, ripping the mask from him, "Huh?" He questioned as the man refused to say anything, "I'll ask again." He said, slamming his foot down on the man's ankle as he yelled out, "Did Janet send you?!" He exclaimed, watching the man nod in pain.
