Chapter 25

.

Gary had heard Kathy Morgan basically accusse him of nearly getting her son killed. His fear was that she ws right. Gary had questioned Michael, as he would question any suspect. They hadn't shared with the public, who they suspected, but if Michael was questioned Samantha Larabee might have learned this. In particular, how Gary showed up to figure out who else was in Michael's house for "Bible Study." That little confrontation would have gotten people talking. Sheriff Duncan came to see agent Fredo later that day.

.

Duncan: I questioned Samantha Larabee, were you really talking to her about the case?

Gary: She called me, said she had information. She gave me some interesting little tidbits about the people of this town, but nothing specific about Angel Flint's murder.

Duncan: She admitted to the attempted murder of Michael Morgan, who fortunately will likely survive.

Gary: I'm glad to hear that.

Duncan: Anyway I've spoken to Hayden Dabeck, he's our local prosecutor. Tomorrow he's going to officially charge Carmen Flint with the felony murder of Angel Flint.

Gary: How does he figure it was felony murder?

Duncan: She sexually abused Angel for years, it was concievable to think Angel would commit suicide as a result. It might be difficult to make the case for felony murder, but Dabeck thinks he can do it.

Gary: We don't know for certain that Angel committed suicide. And either way someone had to have carve that pentagram into her chest after she was dead.

Duncan: Angel knew about Jane's past, she could have told her mother this. Hell, she could have told Jimmy, or Mary Elizabeth. That would be, at most, desecration of a corpse.

Gary: We don't know if it's related to her death, we still need to investigate.

Duncan: Me and my deputies will investigate. But your involvement got one of our citizens shot and almost killed. I think it's best if you leave town and leave the rest of the investigation to us.
