Edit: 02/27/20 I am going through the smaller chapters and adding more where I think it could use some. Please enjoy. I will try to edit two to five chapters a week.

Spock left his Captain to his own thought as he made his way to Doctor McCoy. "May I speak with you? Alone please?" The doctor gave him a look but sighed giving a nod. They moved to the edge of the group. He could feel eyes on him and spotted Jim watching them. Instead of feeling comforted by it he felt a cold chill. It was almost as if the former captain wanted to say something to them. Spock got the impression that if he moved any further from Jim's sight the other male would go after them. Instead he stopped near the natural border made by the rocks. He postioned them so Jim could not see what transpired other than a medical check up.

He lifted his shirt so McCoy could check his ribs. The false ones that protected his heart were bruised. The ones above them are broken. He can feel them sliding ever so slightly. His head throbbed and his vision swam indicating a mild concussion. "You shy all of the sudden?" McCoy snorted but began running his tricorder over the bruises.

"No but it does allow you to have a reason to be near me. I am worried about Jim." The southern doctor gave a humming noise to continue as he began to scan over his hip. Likely due to the stressed bones where he had landed on them. "He didn't answer to his name. It's like he is stuck in his head."

"Noticed that did you? We all noticed something is off with the kid. We just can't out right say it. Something about this place has him spooked. I suggest you stay off your feet for a day. You're really close to having a fracture in your leg. Three ribs are broken. I don't want to wrap them but if we start mobing arpund too much I'm going to have to. You know the drill about head injures. No sleeping for at least eight hours. If you start vomiting let me know. Thankfully we saved some of the medical supplies. There's some mild stomach medication you can take to keep everything settled. As for Jim all we can do is keep an eye on him. If he keeps acting a fool I'll hypo him into next week."

Spock gave a small nod in compliance with doctor's orders. Something about this place bothered him as well. It tugged at him like he should know it as if it were his own home. He pushed away those thoughts. He must have hit his head harder than he thought in the crash. He would rest for now and once morning came he would again try to bring their Captain back. His thought turned to Lhai and David. It was hard to describe how he felt knowing they were safe and away from here. That dream of the rotting children bothered him. The familiarity of their faces when he knows he has not seen a human child that looked like them. As Jim would say it was an itch under his skin. He knew if he could just place where he had seen them everything would fall into place.

He sank into lotus postion before folding his fingers together. He would meditate and order his mind. Maybe he would figure out the answer to the children or why this planet seemed familar. He could feel eyes watching him making him glance once more to their Captain. Jim met his gaze before turning to look out into the distance. His whole stance was wrong. This wasn't their Captain standing there waiting for rescue on an away mission. This was someone else. For once Spock felt when he looked at the other man. Not fear for their Captain. That had happened plenty of times either through careless mistakes or an away mission gone wrong. He felt afraid of him. He felt as if he were a connered prey animal waiting to be eaten the way Jim stood. It made him wonder what could be out there that made his Captain into a stranger. He hoped it was just nerves or the head injury that was clouding his thoughts. Spock took a deep breath and started to clear his mind. One way or the other they would find out the truth.
