3rd Person P.O.V.

After dinner (Eddie skipped the lobster and instead had a lot of salad), the two boys were tired. Prince Richie scooped Eddie up in his arms, carrying him to his bedroom. The smaller boy giggled, a soft, clear sound that seemed to resonate inside Richie's head.

"Alright, this is your bedroom. I'm right down the hall if you need me. Sleep well, Eds," Richie grinned, ruffling Eddie's hair. The shorter boy have him a playful glare in response.

"Oh, I know you love it, Eds," Richie insisted. Eddie rolled his eyes. "Your mom certainly appreciates me more." He wiggled his eyebrows, an lopsided grin gracing his features. Eddie did not like that comment as much as the prince did, and proceeded to close the door, shutting Richie out for the night.

Once Eddie was alone, he ran to the balcony. He sighed, surveying the land thoughtfully. One day he hoped to explore it with Richie by his side. He walked back inside, leaping onto the big fluffy bed. It was unlike anything he had ever experienced, the luxury of staying with the royal family was more than he could ever ask for. Of course, underwater, Eddie was royalty, but it wasn't nearly as interesting as Richie's life.

Eddie snuggled himself into the blankets, feeling comforted by the heavy layers above him. But it still wasn't right. Eddie got out of the comfy bed, trodding down the hallway to Richie's room. He knocked on the door, waiting for a view of the curly-headed prince.

"Yes?" Of course, Eddie couldn't answer. He knocked again, waiting for the prince to realize who was at the door. "Oh! Eddie spaghetti, is that you?" Eddie just knocked again in response. Not being able to speak was making this a lot more difficult than he expected. The door cracked open, revealing a pajama-clad Richie.

"Hiya Eds," he grinned. "And to what do I owe the pleasure?" Eddie's gaze trailed down to the floor, and he bit his lip. Richie looked at him curiously. "Do you... do you want to come in? You can sleep in here if you want." Eddie nodded excitedly. The Prince let out a chuckle, before ushering the smaller boy into the room.

"So, Eds..." Richie stared at the mute boy, in his borrowed clothing that hung down too low, his tiny freckles painted delicately across his nose and cheeks, and his faint strawberry vanilla scent. Everything about him was just so perfect- but Richie's heart already belonged to his anonymous savior.

Richie got back into his bed, Eddie cautiously shadowing. Eddie slipped under the covers next to the Prince, noting the warmth that spread through his body. The raven-haired boy flipped off the lights, and the two of them fell asleep.

In the morning, Richie woke up to find Eddie curled into his side, tucked under his arm. It was absolutely adorable, and Richie had to stop himself from disturbing the sleepy boy. He stayed still, grinning stupidly, walking on clouds. Maybe Eddie could steal his heart... maybe it had already been stolen. Richie had felt connected to the strange boy from the second they met on that beach, and that bond had only grown stronger from there.

Eddie stirred in his sleep, letting out a content sigh that melted Richie's heart. Being here with Eddie felt right, and he was much more sure of his feelings toward the boy now. Richie placed his hand in Eddie's hair, gently massaging his scalp. The sleeping boy's eyes fluttered, drowsy eyes meeting Richie's admiring stare.

"Yknow Eds, I was thinking... what if I took you out on the water today? We have a small boat we could take. Would you like that?" Eddie nodded sleepily, yawning. "Alrighty Eddie Spaghetti, let's go! We have a whole day in front of us!" Richie leaped out of bed, dragging Eddie out of the comfy pile of blankets.

The pair left quickly, both eager to spend time alone with each other. Richie was near infatuated with Eddie, and had picked to go out on the water because he thought it would be romantic. They rowed the tiny boat out onto the water, letting it drift loosely across the water. Richie and Eddie stared into each other's eyes, both desiring to taste the other's lips on theirs.

They leaned in close, and Eddie had been home free- until Victor and Belch made an appearance. The rowboat flipped, the teens falling in the water clumsily. They splashed around, eventually collapsing back on the shore. Eddie and Richie were both fine, but the damage had been done. The boat flipping over had totally killed the mood, leaving both boys slightly red in the face at what they had been so close to.

"That was too close!" Henry growled. "That's it! I'm taking care of this myself!" He grabbed the shell, tying the string around his neck. His tentacles transformed into legs, sending Henry to the surface.

Eddie and Richie walked back to the palace together, Richie cracking jokes the whole time. A faint voice echoed nearby, and Richie froze. He ran towards it, his curiosity growing rapidly. He stopped short in his tracks when he spotted the owner of the heavenly voice. An older teen, maybe 17 or 18, with a mullet and a beautiful seashell tied around his neck.

"Hello?" The boy whipped around to look at Richie.

"Hey," he responded. He watched Richie, who was hypnotized by this new boy. Henry smirked, amused at how well his plan worked. Richie swallowed nervously.

"I'm the prince, but you can call me Richie. Who are you?"

"Henry." He paused, clearly waiting for Richie's invitation. When it wasn't presented to him, Henry took matters into his own hands. "I heard you were looking to get married..." That seemed to snap Richie out of it.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, and I... I was wondering if maybe... maybe you wanted to..."

"Marry you?" Henry finished, smirking. "I do."

Eddie sat alone in the palace, waiting for Richie to come get him, like he promised. The pair had made plans to take a sunset walk to the beach, and the sun had already began to set. A servant approached Eddie, his face bright with excitement.

"Did you hear about the wedding? Were you invited?" The servant asked giddily. Eddie cocked his head in confusion. "The Prince! He's getting married!" Eddie felt his heart crack clean in two. Richie was getting married? To who?

"Yeah, I heard it was the same guy who rescued him when the boat sank." Eddie's heart was strung back together. He had saved Richie. So that meant Eddie was the mystery guy. He felt his repaired heart flutter, knowing that it was his third and final day to kiss Richie.

At the wedding, Eddie was lost. Human tradition seemed to be very different than mer culture. But he thought he dressed well for the occasion. Eddie wore a powder blue jacket over his white button up shirt and navy blue bowtie. His hair was combed to one side, and he found a light blush to dust across his cheekbones. He wasn't entirely sure on what he was supposed to do. He figured someone would come get him and help if he wasn't sure, so Eddie sat down in the chairs set up in the lawn.

People filled the seats around him, and Eddie squirmed uncomfortably. Something wasn't right. Shouldn't he be getting ready? But maybe this was normal in human culture. Eddie wouldn't know. A hush fell over the crowd, and Prince Richie walked up to the front. He was dressed sharply, in a slick tuxedo and with his hair styled.

The music started up, and Eddie turned as Henry appeared from behind the wall. Eddie gaped, staring open-mouthed at the octopus-turned-human. He wore a black tux as well, with dark purple accents. Henry smirked at Eddie's dumbfoundedness, silently celebrating his win. Henry strutted down the aisle, stopping when he reached Richie's side.

Eddie watched helplessly as the couple said their vows.

"I do." Eddie couldn't take it anymore. Henry had gone too far. He shot out of his seat, making a mad dash at the couple. Richie was shocked and confused, watching as his fiance and Eddie glared at each other. Eddie leaped towards Henry, who dodged easily. Henry grabbed Eddie by the shoulders, lifting him up. The mute boy kicked, screaming soundlessly. He fell back to the ground, but this time Eddie was faster. He kicked Henry in the shin, causing him to double over. Eddie quickly yanked the seashell from around Henry's neck, crushing it in his hand.

"No!" Henry yelped. Eddie's voice replaced itself, returning with full strength to the short boy. Henry transformed before their eyes, becoming his true self once again. The giant octopus ran off to the water in defeat. Richie stared, mouth agape.

"Eddie- what- huh?" Eddie took Richie's hands in his own, looking into the confused chocolate orbs which he loved dearly.

"Richie," he whispered. The curly-haired boy's eyes widened in shock.

"You," Richie murmured breathlessly. "You're the boy who rescued me. But- but how?" Eddie smiled sadly, instead pressing his lips to Richie's. The pair locked lips passionately, kissing deeply. They broke apart, startling the stunned crowd into a round of applause.

"I think," Richie paused, looking at Eddie with admiration. "I think I love you."

"I love you too."
