They sleep through the night but find the docks patrolled by the soldiers in the morning. It must have a bit concerning to find an assassin with bite marks.

Thanks, Kyouya.

Daemon grumbles and stomps off down the road. He crouches beside a man covered in dirt and rags and they start talking, too far away for anyone to hear.

Mukuro and Daemon need to run for it soon before they encounter the pirates who hired them, since they did kind of lose the crates they were supposed to smuggle over. Chrome needs to know that they couldn't wait here and instead headed off to the next stop, which is where the beggar comes in.

"Verde was correct," Mukuro muses as he watches his brother bribe the beggar. "Smart man, getting away from us while he had the chance."

"It'll be okay," Byakuran says. "Just pass over Kyouya and Reborn to us nobles and the, uh, three legitimate fighters we have can hold off an entire navy ship."

Lal ignores that because she's sane, Colonnello starts scanning the commotion down on the docks to figure out how he's going to proceed and Fon looks like he's up for a challenge. Kyouya would join in, if he knew what his humans were talking about.

"We can fight," Mukuro says, gesturing to Daemon who walks back up. "I just need a trident and Daemon needs a scythe."

"Well thanks for the assist, Poseidon and Grim Reaper," Colonnello huffs in amusement. "What do you need, Byakuran, a flamethrower?"

"I have the power of money, thank you very much," Byakuran scoffs.

"We were very young when we chose our weapons," Daemon grits out. "I bet I could take you on, asshole."

"Okay, that's enough," Reborn grumbles. "Someone give me a gun."

"I don't think we're at that stage just yet," Lal hedges.

"And I don't care. Gun, now."

Mukuro hesitates. "I'm sorry, aren't you a doctor?"

Fon lays a calming hand on Reborn's shoulder. "I think one dead body will perhaps garner less attention than fifty-three dead bodies will."

Mukuro looks between the two. "He's a doctor. You're a doctor, right?"

"We're not killing anyone," Lal says firmly. "We'll go through the water, climb onto one of the ships further out and leave that way."

Daemon pulls his brother closer with a side hug and shakes his head when Mukuro tries to speak up again. It's better they don't know.

So anyway, they steal the navy ship.

Not planned, but Kyouya can't tell the difference and he's the one who orders the other mermaids to drag the humans around underwater, so no one raises the alarm at seeing people swimming around too close to a ship.

Lal is a little bit smug because she's fought this country's specific navy fleet several times before and it really feels good to mess with them.

Takeshi sits on the railing, teetering hazardously over the waves and humming as he enjoys the ocean spray and sea breeze. Hayato and Tsuna are sitting at Reborn's feet, eagerly learning new words because Hayato devours knowledge and Tsuna just likes getting head pats when he does a good job.

There's something he's forgetting, Takeshi thinks. Something on the tip of his tongue but eluding him all the same.

"Hey," Takeshi says. "When did we need to be back home by?"

Hayato whips around and Tsuna blinks rapidly and few times.

"Shit," Hayato says.

The humans watch in confusion as the three mermaids launch themselves overboard in a panic, immediately transforming and shooting away through the waves, leaving only scraps of clothes behind.

Fon turns to Kyouya who just rolls his eyes. Who knows what those three odd ones are doing? Better to just ignore them.

Three days later a ship meets them halfway to the next port. A girl with purple pineapple hair waves from the railing.

"Wow, she actually looks good in that hairstyle," Reborn muses.

Daemon turns on him. "What are you tying to say about my hair?"

Reborn raises an eyebrow. "I don't think you want me to answer that."

"By the way," Byakuran cuts in, not so subtly pushing Reborn into Lal for her to take the doctor away. "You said you were heading inland through one of the rivers? Mind if I hitch a ride?"

"Is someone going to try and assassinate you again?" Mukuro asks pointedly.

Byakuran smiles pleasantly, a very tepid expression for the amount of bloodlust he exudes. "I'm planning on fixing that very soon."

Mukuro and Daemon lean together briefly to whisper and then pull back soon after.

"I do want to see what happens when you take over the Millefiore," Daemon admits happily. "Welcome aboard."

The new ship finally pulls up and they lash the ships together. Byakuran and the brothers jump over, followed swiftly by Kyouya who then tries to carry Chrome back to the stolen Navy ship with him.

"That's cute," Fon muses. "He likes her."

Mukuro and Daemon scramble to drag their sister away from the mermaid, the rest of the odd crew on the new ship screaming and throwing around yoyos and snarling with sharpened teeth. One of them brings out a flute and starts to aggressively play it.

Colonnello tilts his head. "Fon, I think that's called kidnapping."

Kyouya slaps the blond one with the teeth into the water, slings Chrome over his shoulder and transforms enough of his leg into scales that his kick makes the one with yoyos start to bleed heavily after they hit the ground.

"They're playing," Fon corrects.

Mukuro gets a trident from somewhere, the woman is going red in the face from blowing into her flute, Daemon tries to cut Kyouya off from heading deeper into the Navy ship but that just means the mermaid jumps over the edge with his hostage.

"Alright," Colonnello muses. "I guess we'll never see her again."

There is another purple one and she is adorable and Kyouya will keep her forever.
