Luna lay on her bed, whimpering in pain, feeling like she was moments away from crying as the contraction eased off.
Where was Madame Pomphrey? It felt like hours since her roommate had gone to get her. She felt like she was about to give birth on the spot.
Her dorm mates weren't helping at all and if anything they somehow seemed more stressed than she was, running around in circles, one of them was even saying something darkly about either her or her baby dying while in delivery, something that made her blood run cold.
What if she did? Or her precious baby girl? She had been told that teenage pregnancies weren't always healthy pregnancies, but now that fact seemed to hit her full-force.
Who did she prefer to live? She wasn't sure, she loved living life, she wanted to live, but it would kill her to lose the baby she had carried for nearly nine months, she was sure of that.
Finally, she could hear footsteps.
"Can you stand or do you need help?" Madame Pomphrey asked, moving over to where she lay.
"I think so," Luna said before another contraction hit her, freezing her in place. "Help..." She squeaked, trying to breathe through the contraction.
"These are coming very close together, Luna, how long have these been happening?" Madame Pomphrey asked as Luna froze for the fifth time to breathe heavily through the contraction, which was progressively getting more and more painful.
"They started before I went to bed" Luna whispered, gasping as the contraction eased off. "Before you went to bed?! No wonder they're coming so close together!" Madame Pomphrey cried in astonishment as they reached the Hospital wing at last.
"Well, at least you've had some rest, that should help. You have a rough day ahead of you. I'm going to floo call St Mungos, then Professor McGonagall. Just go and sit on that bed."
Luna waddled over to the said bed, hoping things would go as smoothly as possible, squeaking as yet another contraction washed over her.
However, the next thing she knew, Madame Pomphrey was barking at whoever was on the other side of the floo.
"I don't know if she's in active labour or not, she looks as though she's about to give birth on the spot!" She said, sounding thoroughly annoyed. "All right." She sighed, before walking over to Luna.
"I'm going to need to check your progress, alright?" She said as she pulled on some rubber gloves. Luna nodded as the contraction stopped. Madame Pomphrey checked her progress, then went back to the floo.
"The baby's clearly in a hurry to be born, she's about five centimetres dilated." She said. "Yes, I know she can't go through the floo now! You'll send her through to here? Thank you" She went back to Luna.
"You can't go to St Mungo's now you're in active labour, it'll only complicate the birth, but your midwife's being sent through," The mediwitch told the labouring girl who nodded, before crying out in pain.
Meanwhile, Professor Mcgonall had marched into Neville's dormitory and turned on the lights, prompting everyone to wake up, complaining. "Mr Longbottom, Miss Lovegood needs you," She said briskly over the complains.
For some odd reason, something that wasn't explained, the professors still called Luna by her maiden name, even though she was legally married.
Neville looked up, bleary-eyed. "H-huh? It's happening?!" He suddenly shrieked. Professor McGonagall nodded.
Luna meanwhile was just about crushing Ophelia's hand as yet another contraction washed over her.
She had been moved into the same room she had been in when she had found out she was pregnant. Madame Pomphrey had cast a silencing spell over it so she didn't wake up any other patients in the hospital wing with her screams. She had changed into a gown ready for when it was time to deliver, now all that was needed was Neville.
"Where is he?!" She wailed in aungish for the fiftieth time. Almost on cue, Neville rushed in. "Where were you?" Luna asked, gasping as the contraction faded away.
"I was asleep." He answered, going to her side and replacing Ophelia's hand with his own, much to her relief, any more of the treatment she had taken from Luna's hand and she was sure wouldn't have been able to deliver the baby safely with a broken hand.
"Have I dilated anymore?" Luna asked, squeezing down on Neville's hand. "No, it looks like she's changed her mind on coming out quickly, Luna," Ophelia answered. "What?" Luna whispered, nearly bursting into tears again.
"Shh, it'll be all right." Neville tried to soothe her. Luna gritted her teeth. "That's easy for you to say! You're not the one in excruciating pain right now!" She yelled through the contraction, forgetting the breathing she had practised with Ophelia only a few weeks ago.
Neville stared at her and Luna sighed as the contraction eased off again. "I'm sorry Neville, I- didn't mean that." She said sadly as she settled back on the bed, a small tear dripping down her face. "Hey...it's going to be okay Luna" Neville tried again. Luna nodded and squeaked as another contraction came over her,
The next few hours went by agonizingly slowly. The breathing could only help a little and the hours seemed much longer than they actually were. Finally, Ophelia told Luna she could push.
"Okay, one last time, Luna, push as hard as you can." Ophelia encouraged. "She's nearly out, you can do it!"
Luna seriously considered kicking the stupid woman's head in. She hadn't given birth before! She had said so and she had no idea how it felt. Still, she pushed one last time, screaming as the baby popped out and continued until the whole baby was out, tiny, pink and screaming her head off.
She was quickly weighed and measured '2 kg and 17 inches long, quite a little thing you've got there' Ophelia had said, before placing her in Luna's arms, wrapped up in a blanket.
