"The one and only."

Kalawarner's facial expression quickly shifted from surprise to rage.

"What the hell did you kick me for, you stupid cunt?"

The blond Fallen Angel's smug expression remained firmly fixed on her face as she answered.

"Oh my! Shouldn't you be watching your language? We are in a holy place after all. "

"Just shut up."

Mittelt took a few steps back as Kalawarner got back to her feet. Even if her ex-teammate was still recovering from a bout with amnesia it didn't make her any less dangerous.

She would rather be safe than sorry.

The ex-Grigori spy leaned her head to the side as she begun her interrogation.

"So what was the plan Kalawarner? Sneak in here, maybe ambush us? Rescue the girl? Ride off into the sunset? You somehow forget that you're not the only one who's been through all of the monastery's secret passages?"

"Are you being serious right now? I came here to help you guys get this done."

"Help? Don't try to bullshit me Kalawarner, we know about your amnesia and Freed said that you actually tried to protect the nun when he nabbed her."

Kalawarner rolled her eyes.

"That was before I made a full recovery! I remember everything now. I only stayed with Raynare and those clowns to collect info and to gauge their strength. I was working them from the inside!"

Mittelt did not look the least bit convinced.

"You're lying."

Kalawarner sighed.

"Take me to Dohnaseek and I'll prove that I'm on your side."

"Oh sure, take you to exactly where we're keeping the nun. You must think I'm still a rookie. If you have info, cough it up right now."

Kalawarner sighed.

"We have six enemies including Raynare. Four of them are from the house of Gremory. The heiress and Sirzech's little sister, Rias. A fairly strong lightning user who I believe is Baraqiel's daughter and two other demons, a sword user and a martial artist."

Mittelt frowned.

"The Gremory heiress is here? Why? We're not even in Kuoh anymore."

"Well for starters she found out that our little group are the ones responsible for some of her latest problems. She's also here because of the other member of their little team. A human named Issei Hyudou. They have formed some kind of alliance."

"The one with the Welsh Dragon's gauntlet? Raynare speaks highly of his strength."

"He is quite strong but not unbeatable. If we use the nun as bait we could trap him and use the relic to remove his Sacred Gear as well. He still thinks that I'm on his side so I could help lure him into whatever we can set up."

"Oh? Two ugly birds with one magical stone? Not bad...still doesn't mean I trust you."

"You don't have to trust me. You have two choices. Stand here and interrogate me all night or bring me to meet Dohnaseek so we can come up with a plan."

Mittelt smirked.

"I always have the third option of simply killing you."

"The previous surprise attack aside, we both know that I always won our spars back at the Academy and I was definitely holding back."

Mittelt narrowed her eyes as Kalawarner returned her gaze with a look of frustration and boredom. The staring contest carried on for almost a minute before the blond finally gave in.

"Fine. I'll take you to Dohnaseek."

Koneko was in denial.

She was fighting a battle that had already been decided.

Her? The Loser.

Her opponent? Victorious.

Her opponent's identity?

Her foolishly loving heart.

For some reason she could neither fully understand or comprehend, her treacherous mind had recognized every single member of the Occult Research Club as nothing less than family.

To others it would sound sweet and wholesome.

To her the entire notion was completely ludacris.

Due to the circumstances of her troubled past, the white haired loli had promised herself to never trust anyone like that again. To never call or consider someone 'family'. To protect herself from the possibility of another heartbreak.

So why did her foolish heart keep wrapping it's strings around these people?

When she first met the other members of Rias' peerage she had concluded that they were all weirdos. Kind and sweet people but still absolute weirdos. She could work with them. She could coexist with Rias' band of misfits. Her position as the 'Rook' was in a professional capacity. There was no need for anything outside of professional courtesy and loyalty.

But before Koneko knew it, these people became far more than 'acquaintance', 'colleague' or 'associate'.

All of a sudden...she had a family.

Kiba was the cool relaxed brother who knew when it was time to step back and give her space or when it was his duty to follow her around with her favorite sweets.

He was always giving someone the stink eye on her behalf whenever he thought that she wasn't looking.

Rias was like an Aunt that always seemed interested in her grades, future plans, her social life or the lack of it. The club president never missed the opportunity to suggest a new hobby for her or to encourage her to make friends outside of the peerage.

But Akeno...Akeno was like a big sister.

That admission alone sent chills down her spine for varying reasons. Her original older sibling had not left her with many warm and happy memories. The mental and emotional scars ran deep enough to plague her dreams and rip fresh tears from her eyes whenever she stopped to think about it for too long.

But something about how Akeno smiled at her, spoke to her and treated her. She was honesty convinced that this was it was supposed to feel like...to have a genuine loving older sister.

"Koneko-chan?"

Koneko blinked in surprise as she looked down at the very female Devil she was just thinking about.

"Sempai."

Rias' trusted Queen graced Koneko with a beautiful smile.

"What are you doing up in that tree?"

Koneko jumped down before responding.

"I was on my way to the monastery when I saw you dealing with a group of Fallen. I was hiding nearby in the unlikely possibility that you would need backup."

"Oh I see. Good thinking. How have you been doing? Any injuries? Were any of those brutes rude to a beautiful young maiden like yourself?"

Koneko shook her head.

"I'm fine Sempai. Some of my opponents were a little stronger than expected but nothing to worry about."

Akeno nodded happily.

"How delightful! Well since I'm finished here, let's head to the monastery. There's still a few teams loitering around the area and I'd like to prevent them from launching a pincer attack against Kiba-kun and Rias."

Koneko arched an eyebrow.

"They're already in the monastery?"

"Mhm. Our...allies needed them to make a distraction so they could further infiltrate the monastery and hopefully rescue the nun."

Koneko nodded.

"We should be on our way then. Where to?"

Akeno pointed behind her.

"One of my opponents became rather...talkative once we got to know each other. He informed me of the location of a few of the remaining teams."

Koneko stared at Akeno for what seemed to be an eternity.

"So you tortured someone for information?"

"It wasn't 'torture', I was persuading him with my feminine wiles."

"If your lightning magic was involved then it was torture Sempai."

"Ufufufufu."

Koneko shook her head as she walked away, her words came out as a soft whisper.

"You're so weird, Sis"

"What did you say?"

Koneko blushed.

"I said you're a weird sadist! Now let's go!"

"No need to be so mean, Koneko-chan!"

DxD

"DIE YOU FUCKING DEMONS!"

A rogue exorcist roared with fury as he descended upon his targets with a mighty shout.

A half a second later, his sizzling corpse fell like a sack of potatoes several yards away from his target courtesy of Rias' destruction magic.

The Gremory heiress shook her head.

"I do appreciate the novelty of a sneak attack from the balconies but doesn't screaming alert me to the threat that he poses? Not that he would have caught me off-guard but still..."

Kiba sighed as he sliced another enemy in two before kicking a Fallen Angel in the gut.

"Please stop lecturing our opponents, Madam President. It is rather embarrassing."

Rias smiled.

"Embarrassing for you or for our enemies, Kiba-kun?"

Kiba lobbed the Fallen Angel's head off before deadpanning.

"All of the above."

Rias giggled.

"Well it's one of the few ways I can keep myself entertained. Our adversaries still haven't impressed me."

A new voice joined the conversation.

"Forgive those assholes for the rude welcome but the trash was only supposed to warm you guys up for the main event..."

Rias and Kiba turned their attention back to the staircase, standing there was a sword-wielding silver haired man.

The man chuckled as he brandished a sword whose blade was made entirely of Holy light.

"...which would be me."

DxD

"Where are all the guards?"

Mittelt narrowed her eyes before turning to look back at Kalawarner.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"We're in the main hallway that leads to the chamber we fortified. We had agreed to always have our strongest soldiers stationed here just in case someone tried to sabotage or steal the relic."

Mittelt studied her taller companion for a few moments before sighing.

"Powering up the device has taken longer than we thought it would. We've had to call in extra hands on several occasions. The guards are either in the chamber with Dohnaseek or fighting your Devil friends upstairs."

"They're not my friends."

"What about Raynare? She's your friend. You think you can fight her?"

"Raynare was my friend. But her delusional attachment and unwavering loyalty to the Grigori has gotten quite sickening. She can't even see the truth before her."

Mittelt folded her arms.

"Are you saying you're no longer loyal to the Grigori? That sounds very treasonous Kalawarner. An offense that isn't treated lightly by the High Council."

"Oh stop trying to be smart! I know that you and Dohnaseek turned your backs on the Grigori a long time ago. I hope after I've proven which side I'm on that I'll at least get an introduction to your new friends."

"You...you knew?"

"Of course I knew. And I am very very interested in joining a team that can actually get some shit done. Now can we go?"

Mittelt shook her head as she pointed to a nearby bench.

"I need you to wait right here. I'll get Dohnaseek and then we will decide what to do with you."

Kalawarner rolled her eyes.

"Are you serious? The chamber is just around the corner. We could just go in there and talk to him."

"There's no way I'm carrying you into the same room as the nun or relic until we're sure of where your allegiance lies. So sit tight, we'll be back soon."

Kalawarner groaned before sitting down.

"Fine. Just don't take too long."

"Sure...but before I go."

A purple light surrounded Kalawarner as Mittelt placed her hand on the seated girl's head.

Kalawarner narrowed her eyes.

"Did you just use one of your power seals on me ?"

"Yup. You know how it works. Most of your power and abilities have been sealed away. You're barely stronger than an average human right now."

"And what if an enemy gets here before you guys return and undo this seal?"

"I don't know...let's hope that doesn't happen. Okay?"

Mittelt walked away from the sulking Kalawarner with a smirk on her face.

A quick jog around the corner brought her face to face with the chamber door. The blue eyed Fallen Angel placed both of her palms on the ground directly in front of it and waited.

A few seconds passed before three loud clicks echoed on the door's other side as it swung open by itself.

The task of standing straight and making her way through the now open door should have been a simple task for Mittelt but it now proved rather difficult...

There were now three lances of Holy Light sticking out of her underdeveloped chest.

Shock.

Confusion.

Disbelief.

Her mind formed words, phrases and sentences. Not one of them escaped her lips. None of them could.

A voice from behind her spoke softly.

"Thanks for the opening the door Mittelt. I knew you guys would change the security protocol while Raynare and I were away."

Mittelt barely managed to turn her head to see Kalawarner behind her. Somehow the maroon haired Fallen Angel understood the question hidden in Mittelt's pain-stricken grimace.

"Oh? You're wondering how I broke through your little seal?"

Silence followed as Mittelt felt her life-force draining away as she struggled to remain standing. Kalawarner slowly wrapped her hands around Mittelt's round child-like face.

"Oh Silly Silly Milly...I figured out a way around your little tricks, centuries ago."

SNAP!

Mittelt's lifeless corpse fell face first on to the cold stone floor courtesy of Kalawarner snapping her neck. The Grigori spy took a deep breath.

"Ok. That was the easy part. Now comes the real headache."

And with that our troubled heroine slowly went through the door that would lead her to Asia.

DxD

The new enemy wore a face tainted with bloodlust and desire.

Rias blinked a few times as she realized exactly where the priest's eyes were locked on to.

"My eyes are up here, Exorcist."

"I'm not interested in your eyes."

Rias sighed.

"An openly perverted priest ? I thought even the rogue ones had some sort of decency."

"Well I'm the type of priest that would rather bone hot devil chicks than pubescent altar boys...The name's Freed Sellzen by the way, I wouldn't want you to die before knowing the name of the guy that rocked your sweet little Devil ass."

Rias rolled her eyes.

"How charming."

Freed grinned.

"Now let's get this party started. Father Sellzen has a fresh hot sermon for you heathen!"

Both Gremory Devils prepared to attack. Rias aimed one last verbal barb at the mad priest.

"You honestly believe you can best us? I'm sure my Knight is a superior swordsman to you every day of the week. "

Freed took a moment to glance at Kiba.

"Who? This blonde glittery dildo ? I seriously doubt that...but since you guys do have me outnumbered, perhaps I should level the playing field?"

Before Rias or Kiba could launch an inquiry into Freed's question. Several archers appeared on the two higher floors overlooking the monastery's main hall.

Freed chuckled as each warrior notched their bows.

"Ran into these guys while I was on my way up here to greet you two. It turns out I'm not the only one who wants to skewer you with hard wood, little Miss Sugar-Tits."

Rias ignored Sellzen's taunt as she addressed Kiba.

"I will handle the archers. More than likely both their bows and arrows are made from sanctified materials. I'll keep them off you so you can eliminate that vermin with minimal distractions."

Freed attempted to further antagonize Rias but he was forced to put his verbal attack on hold...

*CLANG*

Kiba's sword met Freed's in a metallic stalemate. The mad priest chuckled as he looked into the eyes of the blonde haired Devil and saw nothing but promises of death.

"Well would you look at that? Maybe this'll be more fun than I thought."

DxD

Raynare managed a small smile as she looked down at Mittelt's corpse.

Even though she had not been the one to kill her. A job well done still deserved the praise.

After destroying as many exorcist squads as she could find, the raven haired Grigori spy had decided to follow Kalawarner through the same secret entrance that she had used.

Raynare believed it would be where she could be of most use.

She was aware that Rias and her Knight were fighting Sellzen and the archers upstairs but she was sure they could handle themselves. Issei wouldn't have allowed them to come otherwise...right?

She shook her head to clear her thoughts as she went through the chamber entrance and descended the spiral stairs that would lead her into the heart of the room.

Her first priority was the nun and Kalawarner. Everything else could wait for now.

She quickly hid behind one of the room's stone columns as she attempted to get a proper reading of the situation.

A frown slowly etched it's way onto her face as she observed the occupants of the dimly lit room.

Asia remained strapped to the relic. The strongly pulsating symbols suggested to Raynare that the machine was either fully functional or very close to it. The good news here was that Asia was still breathing which meant that she was still very much alive.

But that was probably the only good news.

Surrounded by just a handful of the strongest Fallen Angels left was Dohnaseek. A Dohnaseek who had his right hand firmly locked around Kalawarner's throat.

"Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit."

Dohnaseek applied a little more pressure as he spoke to Kalawarner.

"Let me ask again Kalawarner. If you're on our side why did you kill Mittelt? Don't even try to lie to me."

The dark skinned beauty took a deep breath as Dohnaseek lessened the pressure on his choke hold.

"Well to be honest...it was a mercy killing. I was pretty sure she was tired of seeing you somehow make a Fedora look bad."

A moment of silence passed before Dohnaseek smiled at Kalawarner sweetly.

The moment ended when he kneed her in the gut before throwing her to the ground.

"Keep an eye on her."

He barked at those around him.

"We don't have time to waste, we must complete the extraction process."

Raynare bit her lip as she prepared to take action. This would probably be her best chance for a sneak attack.

It was probably wiser to eliminate the guards around Kalawarner first. That would leave her to deal with Dohnaseek one on one.

Dohnaseek's voice cut through Raynare's thoughts like a machete going through wet paper.

"You can come out Raynare. A surprise attack won't work."

Raynare literally groaned.

"Oh for fuck's sake."

DxD

Just like any other insane, bloodthirsty fight-aholic Freed Sellzen appreciated every good challenge.

He looked forward to them.

He cherished them.

But if there's anything Freed appreciated more than a good fight...it was winning the fight.

And right now...Freed wasn't winning.

"DID ANYONE EVER TELL YOU THAT YOU'RE THE MOST FUCKING ANNOYING THING EVER?!"

His words meant very little to his opponent. Kiba kept coming at Sellzen like a dog chasing after his favorite bone.

*CLANG*

*CLANG*

*CLANG*

Each time Freed had even though of attacking he was forced to revert to blocking strike after strike from the ferocious Devil.

Each blow was aimed at a vital spot. This monster wasn't interested in Sellzen just being defeated or wounded.

He wanted Freed dead.

And that's when a terrible realization dawned upon the psychotic priest.

"WAIT...AM I YOUR PREY? AM I YOUR PREY? I'M NOBODY'S PREY! I'M THE APEX PREDATOR! I'M THE KING OF THIS JUNGLE!"

Kiba remained silent. He only kept attacking.

Freed grunted angrily as he blocked another one of Kiba's strikes.

"FUCK YOU!"

Freed attempted another attack but Kiba read it easily, it was pure reflexes that had saved the silver haired exorcist from being sliced in two.

However...that did not mean he was unscathed.

A rather nasty cut ran along the side of Freed's arm. The priest growled angrily at the sight of his own blood.

"You little shit."

Kiba finally spoke.

"Impressive. You somehow managed to only escape that with a non-fatal wound. You are rather skilled."

"Go suck a dick!"

"Sorry. I don't swing that way."

A familiar voice chimed in.

"Oh my. Finished already Kiba-kun?"

Kiba half turned as Rias landed on the floor behind him.

"Not quite. Are you unharmed Madam President ?"

Rias pouted.

"I'm fine but those stupid archers left several holes in my clothes! Do you know how much the shops charge to fix our school's uniforms?"

Kiba did not bother to mention that Rias owned those shops.

"You..."

Both Devils turned their attention to the miasma of killing intent flowing around Freed.

"You...don't you fucking ignore me, you cretin. I'm gonna...chop your tiny little balls off and then use them as...decorations on my fucking Christmas tree."

Rias scoffed.

"How unoriginal."

Kiba readied his sword to deliver a final blow to the injured Freed when all three persons there felt it.

A pulse of power.

It felt warm.

It felt irritated.

And for Rias and Kiba It felt...familiar.

DxD

"It didn't have to end like this Raynare."

The Grigori Spy shook her head as she watched Kalawarner stand up.

"Yes it did, Dohnaseek. You know that I always stand against those who betray Azazel-sama."

Dohnaseek grimaced.

"Oh please. You and that blind loyalty of yours! What did it get you? Answering to a stupid human teenager ? Protecting Devils and Nuns ? You and the rest of Grigori have lost their way. It's because of them that you're gonna die here."

"I have no regrets to the Oath I swore."

Dohnaseek chuckled.

"That's too bad. My only regret is that I didn't move on sooner. I've found the real thing. People with ambition. People with backbone. People with...power."

Just as Dohnaseek said the word he flared a small portion of his magical potency. Both Raynare and Kalawarner could tell that he was far more powerful than either of them could remember.

He was certainly more powerful than them now.

Kalawarner narrowed her eyes.

"Power comes with a price, Dohnaseek. What did you pay for this one?"

Dohnaseek turned his back to his former compatriots as he observed the relic before him.

"I would explain it to you but I'm sure you wouldn't understand. The only force that can ever save this pitiful universe is...Khaos. We were born from it, born for it and will be ended by it."

Raynare frowned.

"Grabelek said something of the nature to me some time ago...what have you guys gotten yourselves into?"

Dohnaseek laughed heartily.

"Just be happy that you will at least witness the beginning of our uprising. With this relic We'll have an entire army of Sacred Gear users at our disposal. It's a shame you two won't live to see the glory that will follow."

Both female spies prepared to defend themselves when the entire room was swept with a pulse of what could only be described as omnipotent presence.

Even Dohnaseek shivered for a moment before turning his anger and confusion loose upon Raynare and Kalawarner.

"What was that?! What was that?! Answer me or I swear your deaths will be far more painful than you can imagine."

And for the first time in a long time...

Raynare laughed.

Not her sarcastic evil laugh.

Not the laugh she used when she was demeaning others.

Not the laugh she plastic laugh she used when some of the High Council members tried to crack jokes.

A real genuine laugh.

Dohnaseek's confusion was only multiplied by the fact that even Kalawarner seemed to be relieved.

"Wh-what?"

Raynare sighed happily.

"The best way I can say it is this, Dohnaseek. You. Guys. Are. Sooooo. Fucked."

DxD.

Where a translucent ball of flame once stood there was now a young man with a red gauntlet on his arm.

"Status report."

"We're almost at full capacity...Best I can do under the circumstances."

"Thank You. I appreciate it. Shall we go?"

"Of course, Partner."

The pulse was Ddraig's 'town cry.'

A truth that both ally and enemy would have to acknowledge.

This skirmish was over.

Issei Hyoudou...is awake.
