CATELYN

WINTERFELL – TWO MONTHS AGO

A bath felt good after several days of sitting at her sons Brans' bedside. He had fallen from the broken tower and was now in a coma. Maester Luwin had said he would live, his fever had passed, but when he would awaken the learned man did not know. As she washed off days of sweat and body odor Catelyn Stark formally of House Tully thought about her son. From the day he could walk he would climb. Bran would climb furniture, beds, tables chairs. As he got older his need to climb things grew. There wasn't a tree, building, or wall in Winterfell that had not been climbed by the little Wolf Monkey Ned often called him.

"Bran has never fallen." She says washing her long hair. The more she thought on it the more she considered the fact that someone pushed him. But why? She got out of the tub dried herself off and summoned the servant to empty the bath. She ate at Bran's bedside and then she went to the Broken Tower. She walks up the steps and looks around. She goes to the window and looks for lose bricks. She laughs it was a silly theory. As she starts to leave something catches Cat's attention. She bends down and picks up a strand of Golden Hair…

PRESENT

She hated leaving her son still sick in bed, but the trip south was necessary. Her husband had to be told about the footpad and the golden strand of hair she found. She did not travel alone. Ser Rodrick Cassel Man at Arms for Winterfell is with her. They stopped at the inn to rest. And the next day they were on the road again. Catelyn wanted to visit her childhood home of Riverrun. Her father Hoster Tully is Lord of Riverrun and the Riverlands. But going to Riverrun meant crossing at the Twins and she loathed the Late Walder Frey same as most highborn nobles of the riverlands. Still it would have been nice to see her father and brother again.

The closer they got to the Capital, the more rumors they heard. The Lion of the East had won the tourney of Hand. The first Tri-Tourney champion in over two hundred years. "He must be something else…" Ser Rodrick says as they ride through the King's Gate. "A man to outshoot, out fight and ride everyone he faces. By the gods I wished I could have seen that."

Catelyn smiles, "You men and your jousts." They are met by some Gold Cloaks.

"Make way there." Ser Rodrick commands.

"Sorry Ser Rodrick…We were told of your coming by Lord Petyr Baelish…"

"Baelish?"

"Yes he awaits you with your husband in the Hand's Solar."

"Ned." She says running into his arms.

"Cat…What are you doing here?"

"Hello Cat…It is good to see you again."

She looks at him, "And you Lord Baelish. You look well."

"Thank you."

"I came because…"

"A man tried to kill your son."

They both look at him, "What do you know of this?"

"Your sister wrote you about the Lannisters yes?"

"Yes…"

"Well your son caught Ser Jaime and the Queen as man and wife…It was Ser Jaime who pushed him from the wall."

"What!" She looks at Ned.

"He has been arrested for treason. Both he and the Queen…" Ned says, "They were caught in their affair by the King, myself, Ser Barristan, and another."

She shakes her head, "Ned I want justice."

"Ser Jaime is to take the black and the Queen will be tried."

"Why does Jaime Lannister get a free pass?"

She listens as they tell her about Tytos Lannister and all he did. "I want to see the King."

"Cat it won't make a difference."

"Why?"

"Because the loan he paid off, he has the power to take it back."

"Then take me to see this Tytos Lannister."

They ride to his mansion and are announced. "Lord Stark…This must be your beautiful wife Lady Catelyn Stark. A pleasure to meet you My Lady."

They sit down, "My husband tells me that you are holding the loan you paid off over the King's head to get revenge. Well I want revenge as well…Your Uncle shoved my son from the window of the Broken tower…Fifty feet up."

He sighs, "I would like nothing more than to see Jaime Lannister's head roll for what he did to my mother. But my mother before she died, asked me to spare him."

"Why?"

"Because even after he broke my mother's heart, she still loved him. And my Father loves his brother. One of the few people to show my father Tyrion kindness."

"You will not give a mother justice?"

"I am bound by my word My Lady."

Eddard sighs, "Come Cat…"

"What have you told Sansa about Joffrey?"

"Everything…She is relieved and disappointed. You should go home and take the kids with you."

"No I want to stay and see justice done to at least one Lannister."
