Own nothing
The media was on fire. Well it was always on fire with the latest scaremongering, exaggeration of statistics, dragging the President's ideas through the mud or putting them on the pedestal and embellishing his elegance and eloquence.
But this time the story of the day was the brutal killing of the security. However, in response the immediate witnesses had released statements. Eventually the District Attorney, had to act and in a statement the Attorney explained that 'Both parties were clearly in the wrong, those accused of manslaughter acted in self-defence but nothing could be done if everyone was in hiding like rats then nothing could be done. They had a day to turn themselves in to the District Attorney's Office for questioning.'
Sirius and Remus had waisted no time in investigating Trask and Campbell. During the raid, the names of Trask and Campbell had come up under enthusiastic questioning. With those names, combined with Wolverine's patchwork of scar tissue and multiple memories of multiple lives and technological ineptitude aside from the basic ability to drive; they got Cypher to start looking for information.
What Cypher found almost made him turn his stomach. He had stumbled across a 'black cache', similar to cookies and ads that one picked up when browsing the internet. Upon cracking opening the cache, several gigabytes of data and without hesitation, he clicked download all.
What he found shocked him, Trask and Campbell were funders of Robert Kelly…well that didn't but to see it written down and in clear figures. There was also a link to someone known as the 'Clairvoyant' and 'Heracles', he'd need to talk to Professor Xavier about that. What caught his eye were Projects 'Guardian', 'Baskerville' and the 'Ezekiel Movement'. Clearly the brains in this knew classical literature and were definitely Book of Revelations worshippers.
Cypher chuckled, considering Harry had deep pockets, an interest in the esoteric, niche and the downright strange books and the means to find them. Cypher sighed, that sigh brought Remus attention to him "Find anything?"
"Too damn much, we're going to take a while to get all of the information. I do however, need some questions answered."
"Go on?"
"What would you say Projects Guardian and Baskerville meant? Also, I've found something called the Ezekiel Movement and two figures under the name 'Clairvoyant' and 'Heracles'…I'm not the most well versed on esoteric like Harry, Dean, Seamus and Neville are."
"Have you got any other names?"
"Bolivar Trask and Jack and Roderick Campbell."
Remus nodded "From what Harry told me of Kelly; those four men have very stringent views on what is normal. The fact, Kelly knew of Mutants is unnerving. So Project Guardian is something possibly to do with protecting or segregating mutants from the major population…Project Baskerville, Hounds of Baskerville, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle guy who wrote Sherlock Holmes, possibly to track and beat mutants who will not comply with Guardian or select Mutants to help Guardian."
"Ezekiel is a section of Revelations…Fire and Brimstone…Something potentially around renewal, rebirth and or purification."
"Clairvoyant, another name for a psychic. Not sure, that one's lost me right now. Heracles on the other hand, Heracles slew a Hydra as one of his twelve tasks…" Sirius explained.
Cypher nodded "None of this is making sense. However, with these files I'm printing off, I should be able to make things uncomfortable for a Robert Kelly."
(Kelly's Office)
"Of course, Mr. O'Reilly, I'll attend this trial." Kelly said as he hung up the phone. The responsibilities of representing a state were never done. However, what the District Attorney Michael O'Reilly didn't know was this trial was one of conflicting interests for him. Hopefully for everyone present this conflict of interest was not going to be a problem.
(Bayville PD Mortuary)
Raleigh Zenda, Zen, to his few friends with one of those being his coffee grinder and machine known collectively as 'Miracle'. He looked at the dead agents, he had been sent a large cheque with a note to 'Pass this by'. Zen snorted, he grew up in an Organised Crime linked family, he was meant to be the legitimate one and he was.
He had family that'd help him take the dirty money and still do his job. He shrugged, it looked like his gaming rig was going to be complete earlier than expected. The door to the morgue opened and his colleague entered "Sweet Christ, is it colder in here than usual?"
"Nope, you've just got on shift…lazy ass. Anyway, we've got three boys on the chopping floor. Let's get looking. Butters?"
Lou Butters looked at Zen "You sure? I mean, because I got this?" With that he meant a cheque and passed it to Zen.
"I'd understand me due to my family…you? You're the straight man, hell you've got your misses…"
Butters looked at his colleague "We swore a duty, I don't care for the money…although it'll help…I want to do what you do…"
"Take dirty money, cycle it into clean money and use it guilt-free. Also, keeping it away from your lass."
Waldo nodded, Andi Macklin…his other half was a scary woman. Looked more like a model but oh yes, she was definitely scary."
Zen nodded "I'll do that…Now, shall we take a look at what we've been paid not to?"
Butters nodded. Within ten minutes, there was horror in their eyes as underneath the synthetic skin and muscle was a heavily detailed skeleton. This would have been normal if it wasn't for the fact that it was robotic "We're going to want keep this secret, now let us see who this belongs to."
(Xavier Mansion)
Charles Xavier had schooled his facial features into a blank slate, but internally he was fuming. He picked up the phone, in Bayville the Xavier name had some serious weight to it and his four charges and their prosecutors were going to experience that.
He had sufficient evidence, he was calling his families solicitors and lawyers.
Sirius had done the same thing and in the parlour of the Xavier Mansion, fourteen different well-dressed men and women along with a few more appearing on a computer. They were present and collected, and tasked with getting the accused off on the lightest punishment available.
Little did they know that extra help was going to be given to them.
