Author's Note: A big shout out to artec997 for reviewing! Thank you so much. I hope you keep reading. I really love reviews. They make my day better. Now on to why you guys are really here. Also I have been going back through some of the shorter chapters and adding to them. I also fixed the part where Spock had bruised ribs in one chapter and broken in the next. They are broken.
Warnings: Be careful we are getting into emotions. If it bothers you skip from Jim responding to Uhura to the italics. Also Jim has a bad mouth on him.
Jim sat on a fallen tree. His hands felt shaky. Like the time he was ten and snuck in his step fathers stash of booze. His stomach rolled nearly as bad. Seems he overestimated how long it would take before the medication would wear off. It would be fine. It would just mean he needed to push them to get to the mountain faster. Finding a cave and water source was all that more important. If he could move let alone help them for a day or two then he had to at least make sure they could survive without him.
He sipped his water as he scanned over his crew. They were clearly tired. The mountains were more visible then they were before. If they pushed they could make it there before it started to get dark. He just needed them to realize they needed to move.
Pushing away from his seat Jim stood. "Alright we need to get moving." He was already putting his water bottle back into its place in the pack he carried.
Bones sputtered. "Jim we just sat down not even five minutes ago. We've already walked all morning and didn't stop at lunch." He waved to the others in a silent look at them motion.
"I know but the soon we get to the mountain the better. It'll offer food, water, and shelter." Jim adjusted the straps on his shoulders as he spoke.
Scotty gave that smile of his. The one he gave when he tried to talk to someone who wasn't on his level of skills but needed to be. "Jimmy, lad, we are all tired. Most of us were injured in the crash. We've camped out in the open before. We can do it again. We can even cut down some branches and make shelter if that's what you are worried about."
The former captain froze before shaking his head. "No. We already lit a fire last night. Even if we were careful someone could pick up we were there. We don't want to leave a trail for them to follow."
"Don't we want our rescuers to know where we are at?" Sulu piped up from where he sat with Chekov. "Everything we learned in Starfleet said to stay-"
"Starfleet isn't always right. We'll worry about rescue later. Right now we need to go somewhere they can't find us." He jerked away from the hand that wrapped around his arm. Bones held up his hands.
"Easy kid. Look we know getting somewhere safe is top priority but how do you expect us to get there if we are too tired to move. Give us fifteen more minutes. That's time enough to get something in our stomach, rest, and relive ourselves. I don't know about you but I'd like to be able to do my thing where there is at least cover enough so someone doesn't see my bare ass. A some leaves to wipe with."
A few snorts of laughter went around the group. It made the side of Jim's mouth twitch. "Fine. Fifteen minutes. If not I'll leave you bare ass." He turned and began to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Uhura called out to him. Laughter still lacing her voice.
Jim glanced over his shoulder and waved to the surrounding trees. "What do you think? Just because all of you have seen my ass bare more than once doesn't mean I want you to now." It was good to see them laugh.
Without waiting for any of the others to say something else the former captain moved into the woods. With each step his breath came in sharper and faster until he felt like he couldn't breath at all. As his vision begun to blur he skitted around a tree and sank to his knees. He placed a shaking hand over his mouth to silence any sound. They couldn't see this. He drew his knees to his chest and placed a hand on the back of his neck squeezing.
The world began to spin around him as more of his vision turned black and spotty around the edges. He bit into the meaty part of his hand unsure if it was to stop from laughing or screaming. He wasn't sure which was forming deep in his chest only that if it started he wouldn't stop. The taste of copper flooded his mouth as everything around him faded away.
"Hey! Knock your crap off you little shits!" A boy all knees and scrapes yelled. Six boys froze before running away. He sighed before walking to the boy laying on the ground. He offered him a hand up. "You gonna keep laying there or what?" The other boy glared at him. Finally the child took his hand pulling himself up.
"They are just gonna keep beating the crap out of ya if you don't fight back." He helped the boy pick up his things.
"Of course they will keep doing it. However fighting back will not solve anything. It will only make my mother worry." The boy said as he took his things back.
"Mamma boy are you? Well if you really cared about here you wouldn't go back to her with bruises on your face. Ya got a name?" He asked wondering about the new kid and maybe getting a friend even if the kid was probably half his age.
The kids shoulder stiffened. "Does it matter? It's too hard for your kind to pronouce. If it matters so much why not make up one for me."
Snorting he reached down and rufled the spitfire's hair. "Fine then. You can be Sai. Name is Jimmy."
"Sai? As in a weapon? You're weird. Do you have a surname Jimmy?" The boy asked as he tilted his head.
"Davis. You can call me Jimmy Davis." He had no idea why his mother's maiden name popped into his head but he wanted nothing to do with his father at the moment. He held out his hand for the other boy to shake. "Nice to meet you Sai. I'm Jimmy." The boy hesatated but finally shook his hand. Jimmy smiled which brought a smile to the younger boys lips. "Pleasure to meet you."
