When the Doctor and Clara left the TARDIS, they walked, occassionally checking Clara's phone to make sure they were still going the right way, neither speaking. The Doctor was not normally one to recognise an awkward silence, but he looked at Clara from the corner of his eye, uncomfortably aware of the quiet between them.
"Gifted and talented? Really?" he said.
Clara chuckled lightly "Furious, fearful, tongue-tied. They're all superpowers if you use them properly." She looked back over her shoulder, not entirely happy that they could no longer see the TARDIS "Are they going to be alright?"
The Doctor shurgged "They're in the TARDIS. Safest place there is. Aderyn is with them. But, if this is an invasion..." he let his words trail away.
"What? What then?"
"It's over. They're here, they've won. What do they want?" The Doctor said.
Aderyn paced nervously around the TARDIS console. She didn't want to be in the TARDIS, kept away from everything like a companion that needed protecting.
The children were sat awkwardly around the console room. Ruby stood suddenly "I'm not going to let her die."
"Who?" Danny asked, putting his phone back in his pocket. He'd been pretending to play games but Aderyn knew he had already text Clara a few times.
"Miss. You let her go off with some randomer into the forest. You're supposed to be madly in love with her."
Danny smiled awkwardly "Who said that?"
"Everyone." Ruby said, gesturing wildly at the rest of the group.
Aderyn stopped her pacing and glared at the girl "You really need to stop overreacting." She then went over to the console and started fiddling with the TARDIS controls. She quickly stepped away from the console and, hands on hips, went bak to glaring at Ruby "Hang on, randomer? Do you mind, that's my dad your talking about?"
There was a stony silence that lasted for less than a minute.
"That's your dad?" a boy asked.
Aderyn turned an exasperated look to Danny "Why are people surprised by that. I do look like him." Danny shrugged. Aderyn took a calming breath before turning back to the children "Yes that's my dad. And don't worry, he's not going to let anything happen to her."
This seemed to quell Ruby's fear and the children started chattering amongst themselves. Danny stood and walked up to the TARDIS console. "You say not to worry, but you're clearly nervous."
The talking and muttering stopped and Aderyn could feel everyone watching her.
"Yes, I am." She admitted "A forest has formed overnight, I have no idea what's out there, I'm stuck in here and I have no idea what's going on. So yes, I'm a little nervous"
"Why don't you go after them?" Ruby said.
Aderyn looked at the children, initailly calm, but she was quickly scowling angrily "Because I'm not leaving you here by yourself." She snapped.
"You can trust us." Ruby said as Aderyn strode across the console room.
"No I can't." Aderyn said. She walked down the corridor and emerged a minute later, pushing a boy ahead of her. Danny's stomach sank when he noticed Samson appeared to be carrying a sword "I can't trust you if you wonder off when my back is turned." Aderyn took the sword and fastened the belt around her waist.
"Is that a real sword?" Samson asked, poking at the sheath on Aderyn's hip.
She moved it away from him and went back to the console "Yes it is. Therefore it is really dangerous."
"Cool. Can I see it?" another boy said.
"Bradley, you're not getting her sword." Danny snapped.
"I just want to look at it." He huffed.
"Look, guys, I'm not staying in here. Danny, you can either stay here with this lot and keep them all in your sights at all time. Or, you can all come with me." Aderyn said.
"How do I know we'll be safe with you?" Danny asked.
Aderyn smiled pleasantly at him "I know how to read people. The very fact that I am not the Doctor means you trust me to keep you all safe and alive more than you trust the Doctor with Clara." She stalked across the room and opened the door "Plus I have a sword." She took the sword from around her waist and swung the belt diagonally across her body, securing it to her back.
