*so I've been listening to the song 'Paper Rings' by T-Swift. And I just think it's perfect for Lindanny.*
"Hey, Mom," twenty three year old Danny Reagan came through the back door of his childhood home.
"Danny!" Mary smiled and hugged her oldest, "what brings you here?"
"You know I hate asking for help, and I'd rather lose my sanity first?"
"Yes...?" Her face was graced with an amused smirk.
"And I'd much prefer to rob a bank first, but I can't cause I'm a Reagan and an upstanding citizen and-"
"Danny, What is it that you want?" Mary interrupted his ranting.
"Can I have 500 bucks?"
"What? Why?"
"Remember Linda O'Shea?"
"The girl you're going with? Of course I remember her. Jamie loves her."
"Yeah, well, I do, too. And I need 500 bucks so I can buy a ring-"
"Oh, Danny! You're gonna ask her to marry you!" Mary smiled widely. She had always expected her oldest to marry first, but her second oldest beat Danny to it.
"If she says yes. So can I have the money?"
"Yes! Of course! Lemme get my checkbook." Mary came back shortly, writing out the amount. "Here you go, sweetie."
"Thanks. I'll pay you back-"
"Nonsense! That girl's going to marry you, or my name isn't Mary Reagan!"
Danny chuckled a little. He wished he was that confident. "Thanks, Ma. You're the best." He kissed her cheek, "oh, um, don't tell anyone, okay? Especially not Joey."
"You know I never tell Joe anything that has to be kept a secret."
Danny smirked, "thanks again, love you."
"I love you, too." She smiled and watched her son walk out the door.
"Hey," Danny smiled, "Come on in."
The blonde walked into his apartment.
"I just need to find something, then we can go."
"You okay?" Linda O'Shea asked her steady, "You seem... nervous." She watched him somewhat frantically search for the desired object.
"Huh? Oh, I'm okay." Danny nodded, looking for the box. He turned over the couch cushions.
Linda casually looked on his desk, where she saw a small box. Curious, she picked it up and looked inside. Her eyes got wide, "Danny?"
"Yeah?"
"Is this an engagement ring?"
He looked over his shoulder to see her holding a small box, an unreadable expression on her face. He sighed and mumbled, "this wasn't the plan, but..." he took the box from Linda's hand, and got on one knee. "Linda, I love you. Ever since the first time I saw you, I knew you were special. And then when I talked to you, I knew I wanted to be with you the rest of my life. Linda... I want your good days and bad days, your complications, too..." Danny frowned, and mouthed, shit. "Not complications... you're not complicated-"
Linda kneeled in front of him, "I am complicated. And you are, too. And I want that. I want your bad and good days. Dreary Mondays and wacky Wednesdays, I want it all. I want you when you're in that stubborn mood."
Danny smiled, "I want you when you're not fun to be around-" at this, Linda blushed a little and smirked, "and I wanna hold you and thrill you and... have you. The rest of my life, I wanna fight for you. For me, for us. So... will you marry me?"
"Of course! Yes!" Linda smiled widely, she had wanted to marry Danny since she saw him.
He slipped the ring on her finger, "Sorry it's not... you know... fancy."
"Oh, Danny! I like shiny things, but I'd marry you in paper rings!" She held her left hand out, her right hand over her heart. "Hell, I'd even marry you in one of those rings you get from carnivals that makes funny noises when you blow in it!" Linda grinned from ear to ear.
Danny felt relieved and kissed her soundly. "That was one of the strangest proposals ever."
Linda chuckled, "not strange. Just special."
"So you like the ring?"
"I love the ring! I absolutely hate those big, gaudy things! This is perfect! Nice and classy."
"Like you."
She smiled more and kissed him, knowing that his proposal was the best thing she had ever- and would ever- say 'yes' to.
A/n
The ring is the closet I could find to Amy Carlson's actual engagement ring.
