Luna felt nauseated as her call went straight to voicemail for the twentieth time. Before arriving to her first class, she looked around several parking lots searching for his pristine sports car without success. It had been a couple of days and he hadn't answer any of her messages or calls. She thought it was extremely odd but let it go the first day. By the end of the second day, she was starting to fear the worst. The day seemed to pass so fastidiously slow that it reminded her of those long summer days with nothing to do as a little kid, just waiting, expecting. She couldn't wait for his class to start.

As she rushed towards the classroom, a white paper taped to the closed door startled her, almost crashing into it. "Class cancelled. Read chapters 10 and 13 and prepare for final exams". She could almost hear him with his husky voice saying the phrase to the class, but what about her? After all that had happened between them, after that love confession, why wouldn't he tell her what was going on? Did he not trust her? After all, he made it quite clear that she was special to him. She went several times to his office, and it was closed. A profound desperation started to inundate her; if it wasn't for those damn tests, she would be running towards his house that very moment.

She took a step back and leaned on the wall in front of the closed door. Her thoughts were far away from there as her eyes stared into the white wall when a voice shouted her name in the distance. She turned around slowly, hoping her ears had played a trick on her.

"Luna! Finally! I've been looking everywhere for you!" the young man said as he approached her, ecstatic.

The last thing she wanted was to see him. "Guillermo…" she narrowed her eyes, mirroring her professor's mannerisms.

"Wow, look at you, you look amazing…" he smiled at her, admiring every inch of her face like if she was a piece of art at a museum.

"What are you doing here?" she took a step back.

"I had an appointment with several board members. Get used to seeing me around… Actually, I can't wait to tell you! I enrolled for the advanced filmography class this summer; we are going to be classmates! Priya told me Professor Hunt might be teaching it, so I couldn't resist and decided to enroll as well. You remember how much we used to fantasize about taking the same classes? Who would've thought that one day it would become true?" he grinned.

"What? That can't be… how? Why?" she asked, clearly upset.

"Well, I just spoke to Priya Singh, and she is very interested in me joining the school. After Paradiso, Hollywood University's board decided to give me a full scholarship so I can finish my bachelor's degree here. All I needed to know was that you were here. My only request was to take as many classes with you as possible and Ms. Singh was more than willing to fulfil my request. I would follow you anywhere, Luna. I will show you how much you're still in my mind and heart" he reached for her hand, but she moved it away.

Luna scoffed, nodding her head as she heard the empty promises of an empty man. "You're wasting your time with me; I've told you several times. I have no interest in making the same mistakes of the past and you're losing your time. I've got to go" she gave a step before he grabbed her arm.

"I know you still have feelings for me, I can see it in your eyes" his gaze, powerful and determined.

"You were always such a bad person reader. You have no empathy, you have no idea of what other people want or need, it's all about you. It always was" she broke away from him and continued her way through the hall. Her indifference hurt his ego, but he was completely sure that she was going to be his again, one way or the other. That was something that Priya was very interested in as well.

Her eyes started to tear up as the code was being rejected by the machine over and over again. She knocked on the front door until her hand started to hurt, no response. She looked through the glass door, no movement, no sign of life. Everything looked the same through the glass windows, except they were not in there, together. She decided to wait there and not move until he came home.

Several hours passed and the dusk was starting to disappear in the horizon. It was a remarkably dark and cold night, and all she was wearing was a thin summer dress; it made her regret her (sometimes) impractical fashion choices. She took a deep breath and tried to control the chills that were starting to take a toll on her spine. The eternal sky made her feel that all her mundane and trivial worries were insignificant in the grand scheme of things. However, the fear in her heart could not be killed even by the most persuasive of philosophies; she was only a woman in love; afraid.

The droplets on her arms started to feel more like tiny ice cubes as the light rain continued its unaware, constant path. That didn't stop her from searching for patches of stars among the scattered clouds. Trying to guess which constellation hang above, thinking how he was somewhere under the same sky. A strong beam of lights blinded her, to which she covered her face under her arms, narrowing her field of vision to almost none. She walked towards the lights while her eyes adjusted slowly, his silhouette became discernible as her eyes started to adjust to the brightness.

"Luna? What are you doing here? Look at you! You are soaked!" Thomas rushed towards her as took off his suit jacket.

"Where have you been? Why haven't you picked up my calls or replied to my messages?" her voice started to break.

"Please come inside, Luna. We need to talk…" he lowered his voice, making her realize her worst fears were about to come true. He tried to reach for her, offering her the jacket. She took a step back, crossing her arms, hugging herself. He felt her fear and despair, he could see it in her eyes, it was too much.

"Talk? I'm not stupid, I know what that means…"

"Luna, please, come inside"

"I don't need to go inside for you to break my heart in a million pieces"

Thomas remained silent; he knew that the moment he was dreading so much was about to arrive.

"So… all the things you've said… that you loved me… that was a lie?" her breathing started to agitate.

"No, Luna, it's not like that…"

"Then why are you doing this?!"

A chilly silence inundated their whole surroundings, the cold night was enhanced by the lingering anxiety.

"I… I can't expose your education or my career anymore, it's too much. Maybe this is just not worth compared to what we are jeopardizing" his eyes dropped to the floor, unable to look at her.

The inevitable truth which she expected all along was there, hitting her in the face.

She took a deep breath and turned around; her head high while his was down. He expected her to hit him, to yell at him, to point out his cowardice, but she just walked away. How could he live with that?

"Luna… please don't leave like this" he implored.

She stopped on her tracks but didn't turn back. "You took your decision, now leave me alone" She continued her path, disappearing into the night while he was unable to articulate a word.
