Chapter 29

.

After speaking with sheriff Duncan Gary Fredo returned to Leita Rose Blodgett's bed and breakfast. She was suprised to see him again, particularly as it was now late in the night.

.

Leita: Agent Fredo, what are you doing back here?

Gary: I don't think my investigation is over yet. We still don't know who killed Angel Flint.

Leita: There's a rumor around town that she committed suicide.

Gary: That's a distinct possibility. But I get the feeling that much of this town would rather let her murder go unsolved than let certain secrets come to light.

Leita: I get that feeling too. I saw the same general feeling when I was in prison.

Gary: You were in prison for murdering your husband right?

Leita: Yes. He was molesting our daughter, I did what I had to do to protect her. Most were guilty, not just of what they were convicted of. Terrified that their other secrets would come out, and they'd be in prison even longer. I'm not the only one who settled in Sanctuary after being released here.

Gary: You've just told me more about your own criminal past then the sheriff did. I want to stay in Sanctuary until I solve Angel's death, whatever the truth might be.

Leita: You're welcome here.

Gary: I'm fairly certain the FBI won't be paying for my room and board.

Leita: How about you stay until your investigation is complete, and we'll figure out payment then.

Gary: That's fair. I can't guarantee that certain people won't come after you.

Leita: I'm an old woman who's accepted Christ's gift of salvation, what have I got to lose.
