Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 29
"Have you ever wondered what marks our time here? If one life can really make an impact on the world…or if the choices we make matter? I believe they do. And I believe that one man can change many lives. For better…or worse."
The couple looked to the worried four year old and stared back at each other. They joined hands and walked over to where he was seated.
Brooke took a deep breath and took ahold of his hand and looked him in the eyes.
"Jamie sweetheart. You're uncle and I have very upsetting news to you." Brooke began to say. Finding it difficult to speak and handle the range of emotions she felt.
Jamie looked back at her. "She's dead isn't she. Just like my daddy." He said.
Lucas's face softened. "We are more sorry then we can say buddy. But you and Lydia aren't going to be alone. That one thing you never have to worry about." He said.
"You're mommy loved you so much. And Lydia. The two of you were her whole world." Brooke said.
Jamie's face softened. Tears fell from his eyes. "I never got to tell her i was sorry for being so mean to her all time. I didn't let her tuck me in anymore, no hugs or kisses, grandma Deb or grandma Lydia drove me to school. I didn't get to tell her i love her. Now she won't ever know." He confessed.
Brooke looked to Lucas quickly wiping the tears falling from her eyes.
"I've been looking all over this hospital for you young man. I heard about you're mother. This means you and you're sister will be living with me and you're grandfather." Deb Scott said.
At the sight of Deb cradling infant Lydia in her arms. Brooke felt this rage come over her.
"I'll take Lydia. Brooke will take care of Jamie." Lucas said.
Deb Scott narrowed her gaze at the couple.
"Neither of you have the authority to decide what happens with these children. Come with us Jamie right now." Deb said. In her stern voice looking towards the preschooler.
"Deb i came as soon as i got you're messages. Jamie this tragic for you and little Lydia. But we are going to get through it as a family." Dan Scott proclaimed.
At the sight of his grandfather the young boy's body tensed up.
"I'm not going anywhere with either of you!" Jamie yelled.
"Jamie Scott enough of that. Were you not taught manners we are in public. You will not speak to us this way." Deb scolded.
Brooke turned and looked to Lucas.
"You go take the kids out to our car. I'll be there as soon as i can." Brooke said.
Lucas looked from Dan and Deb to Brooke.
"I'll be fine." Brooke said.
Lucas took a breath placed a kiss on her lips and lead the way out of the hallway. Jamie following by his side.
...
Brooke took a deep breath and stared up at the couple.
"Neither of you will ever go near Jamie or Lydia again. Nathan and Haley are no longer here. Because of you Dan and Deb standing by him like some mindless, heartless clone. Neither of you ever loved or cared for you're son, Haley, or those kids. As long as me and Lucas are alive. Those children will never be without a family. Any contact you had with Jamie and Lydia is over. Try and come after Lucas and i. I can gurantee that you will regret it." She threatened. Turning from the couple. As she went out the hospital doors.
...
Later on that day
The entire town of Tree Hill heard about Haley's death. There was talk and rumors for hours until it was confimed to be a murder based off her injuries.
"Jamie's finally asleep. He refused anything to eat or drink. Lydia's asleep too. This entire situation is so difficult to grasp. How are you holding up Brooke.?" Lucas asked. Joining her at the kitchen table.
Brooke took a deep breath and stared back at him.
"I'm shocked, numb, heartbroken for those kids. I've been debating on whether to watch the videos that were recorded on this cellphone. We will bring it to the police. But these were their last moments." Brooke said.
Lucas took ahold of her hand. "We'll watch and listen to it all together." He said.
Brooke nodded her head in agreement. And pressed play.
She felt chills throughout her body as she watched the video of Nathan's murder. Brooke knew she would never forget this image. The fear and shock in his voice.
Brooke thought she couldn't see or hear anymore but knew she had to power through it. She was surprised to see a third recording. A video Haley must of recorded on purpose.
She pressed play and instantly heard Dan's voice fill her ears.
"You caused this to happen. You forced my hand. My freedom matters more then you're life and Nathan's. Deb understands she doesn't question my choices." He said.
"We need to take this evidence to the police right away." Lucas said.
