Q & A
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
When the sun came up there were promises of a clear day on the horizon, there was not a cloud in sight which was good. Jack was awake in the clubhouse this time not only was Hiccup there with him but so were the other Rider's whose names Jack did not know save for Snotlout who he met the night before. Jack had to stifle another yawn, no matter what he did last night he could not get back to sleep.
For the most part Jack was pretty much healed all that was left was an ache in his body, but the more he moved around the sooner the ache would go away. He could feel that his magic was back up to par as well having been diminished due to battle after battle. Jack does not know how long he was sleeping for but it was enough to get him back up and running.
The riders were focused on Jack and Hiccup no one saying anything, everyone in the room was silent which was a feat due to how rambunctious the twins usually were. Everyone was waiting for someone else to break the ice, so to speak and to everyone's surprise it was Jack that spoke first if only to satisfy his own curiosity.
"Is. . .is that a chicken?" Jack asked as he did indeed spy a chicken sitting on Tuffnuts head.
"Why yes good sir this is Chicken, who came to see your godly awesomeness" Tuffnut confirmed.
Jack was confused and Hiccup was in the process of slapping his hand against his face. Well that is one way to start a conversation Hiccup supposed.
"Okay so I see that we need to clear up a couple of things" Hiccup said while trying to prevent Tuffnut going on a tangent and noting the confusion on Jack's face for he had no idea that the rider's thought him to be a god of Asgard.
"Okay this is a first. I have never been referred to as a god before." Jack said plain and simple waiting for the rest of the group to catch on. So far no one did. This time Hiccup interjected before the conversation got even more confusing.
"Guys this is Jack Frost, not Jokul Frosti" Hiccup said looking to Jack to help with the explanation.
"Yeah that is my name, never have I been referred to as Jokul Frosti before. Sorry to disappoint but I am also not a god. I am a Guardian." Jack clarified for the group.
Astrid was the next to speak, as her curiosity was mounting.
"If you are not a god, then explain how you can control the ice? Astrid asked her eyes glaring at the white haired youth next to Hiccup. She may be young herself but upon closer inspection this Jack character looked more of a child than she did.
Jack took her challenge and as he had promised Hiccup he answered the question just as he said that he would.
"Well that is one of my powers or let's call it a gift. These gifts that I have allow me to protect people from the unseen. Protect them from things that intend to cause harm." Jack explained as best as he could without causing further confusion to the group.
Fishlegs was the next to speak his excitement clear as day on his face for this was something new and being the geek that he was, he wanted to know all about the new comer with the strange talents.
"So you call them gifts, how were you able to obtain these gifts" asked Fishlegs.
"Sorry I don't know your name and you are?" Jack asked as he wanted to address these kids properly and respectfully just as they were treating him. Also it felt a little unfair that they knew who he was but he did not know who they were. Not only that but in the magical community names were a big thing, Jack wanted to have an even playing field.
"Sorry that is my bad," said Hiccup and he then went around the room and introduced each of the rider's to Jack. When their name was said they acknowledged the mention with a nod confirming to Jack who they all were. This helped Jack relax a fraction but there was still more to come and he knew it.
Jack looked back at Fishlegs and answered the question that was previously asked.
"Fishlegs, was it? About my gifts I guess you could say that I was born with them. They have been with me for as long as I can remember," said Jack.
Jack thought that this would be easy, but it was turning out to be pretty difficult to answer their questions. He was totally out of his element with these kids who were more like warriors than actual children. He could tell that they have seen their share of fights, which begged the question of how much should he tell them? Right now Jack was keeping his answers short and somewhat vague not sure about what to do.
For one he is not sure about if they know what magic is, he is willing to bet that they do not have an inkling about magic since that is what they are asking about. Second there are dragons in this realm or wherever he is, so that tells Jack that he is nowhere near his world but he knows the language that they speak so maybe he is in a different time period where dragons roamed freely; doubtful. The best that he could do was to keep answering their questions and hopefully they will do the same for him. It was worth a shot.
The rider's continued to ask their questions trying to learn about Jack in the process. They asked about where Jack came from, how he had ended up on the ice in the middle of the ocean practically in the middle of nowhere, they asked about his powers, where he learned to fight, how he was able to make weapons out of nowhere, etc.
The questions kept coming and Jack not sure about how to respond kept everything diplomatic to say the least. Children were a lot easier to answer too than these kids, for one children just accepted what he did and who he was whereas this lot, did not seem to fully trust him. He can't blame them for that as he tried to see things from their perspective.
In short he fell out of the sky, created a glacier that was not made by any native means, he was shocked to see dragons that were apparently a normal thing, and he had powers to which none of the others possessed. Yeah if he were them he would be pretty suspicious too. The one thing that Jack was happy about was that none of them seemed to be afraid, just curious. They still seemed to have some childlike qualities after all much to Jack's delight.
Eventually the questions stopped from the rider's somewhere around when the sun was high in the sky and at its peak location. The day was in full swing and Jack was itching to get outside and blow off some steam. He was not one to stay indoors for too long, the Guardians were familiar with the need to Jack's. The rider's had no clue and this caused an idea to take root into Jack's brain, one that he hoped would lighten the mood.
With the sun being where it was in the clear sky, it was determined that it was time for some lunch before the Q and A could start up again. The rider's still did not know a lot about their newcomer and they were suspicious since Jack did not offer information up freely no matter what the reason behind it may be. One thing they were for sure of at this point though was that he was not in league with Viggo and Ryker, which was a good in the grand scheme of things.
Jack was happy to finally get a break and food sounded good at the moment. Although he was a spirit and did not really need to eat it was still nice to have food, not only that but because of the way that he healed some food would be needed to replenish his energy. No, lunch in Jack's book sounded splendid and maybe they could get a game in before eating, now how would he get these rider's to play? That was the question that was currently on Jack's mind. That is when an idea hit him and he started to go towards the outskirts of the club house that everyone was currently occupying.
No one noticed that Jack was heading outside all that they were focusing on was doing their part for lunch. It was decided that they would finish the mutton that they had from last night, before it went bad. Being on Dragon's Edge in the Great Beyond meant that they had to keep an eye on supplies especially food. While they worked on the meal the riders were talking about the new discoveries that were being made with Jack.
"So what do you think, think that we can trust him?" Astrid asked looking to Hiccup who was helping with the prep work.
"Yes Astrid I do think that we can trust him he has not given us a reason not too" said Hiccup.
"That may be, but I don't feel that he is being completely honest with us" said Astrid.
"Yeah Hiccup I am going to have to agree with Astrid about that one, true he is giving us information but the way that he talks it almost seems like he is hiding things from us." Fishlegs interjected.
"Can you blame him though? You can tell clearly by looking at him that he is not from around here." Said Hiccup.
"Yeah but neither are we H." Tuffnut pointed out.
"At least we got to him before Viggo, I can't imagine having to face off against someone who can do magic" said Snotlout. Everyone looked at Snotlout after that statement.
"What its true and it's not like I was the only one with the thought," said snotlout somewhat defensively.
Snotlout brought up a valid point in this case. It would have been bad should Viggo get his hands on Jack. There were no doubts that Jack's gifts were powerful.
Not only that but Jack also seemed to have a sort of familiarity with animals. It was the only way to ezplain why Toothless and the other dragons seemed to be drawn to him. Jack was also proof that magic was real even though it was rare for a person to wield it.
Athough magic is rare, extremely rare there were no doubts that it was real. They had seen it with their own eyes as Jack fought against the Hunters. Although they kept this fact to themselves still not able to believe it.
Jack's weird behavior did not escape the rider's observations of the newcomer. Jack might have thought that he was able to keep his secrets off of the table, but it was only a matter of time before everything came out.
"Hey where did our white haired friend go anyway?" Ruffnut asked out of the blue.
It was then that all of the Riders stopped what they were doing, and took a look around the club house. The young looking teen was nowhere to be seen the bed that was set up was empty. There was hide nor hair of Jack within the club house, it was then that they all headed outside.
Once outside they breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Jack next to one of the railings of the outside platform. What they were not expecting was for Jack to jump over the railing, and plummet towards the ground that lay below.
Jack went outside to get a breath of fresh air, it felt pretty intense where he was. Not only that but Jack was not one to stay indoors for very long. North's workshop was the exception for that was someplace that Jack called home. It also helped that the infamous workshop was in the middle of a winter wonderland, his element. That made a pang of homesickness rush through his person, as Jack recalled all of those that are important to him that were left behind.
The view from the landing was spectacular, there was lots of green and the fort that the rider's inhabited was impressive. The weather was fair outside and there was a little bit of a breeze that was playful and cool. The smell of sea salt was in the air the ocean and beach not far off of the fort. Jack was so absorbed in the scene before him that he did not notice the rider's behind him immediately but when he did, he had launched himself over the railing that was supposed to keep people from falling.
'Let the games begin' was his only thought before going over the edge of the clubhouses' exterior and towards the ground below.
