In Between Us

Chapter 9

I stared down once more at the check. Closed the envelope and handed it back to Nathan.

He looked back at him with a confused look on his face.

"I'm not you're charity case Nathan. I am perfectly capable of providing for my children without you're assistance. I need to get going now. I'll see you at our next doctor's appointment." Haley said. Turning from him as she left his home.

Once Haley got into her car. She turned it on. And rolled down the windows. Fresh air came rushing in. She took a deep breath and placed her hand on her baby bump.

"Momma's gonna figure out how to build the greatest life possible for the two of you i promise." She said. To the little lives growing inside her.

As she began to drive a focus on the road in front of her.

When she got to the needed location. Haley parked her car and went inside.

Her eyes scanned the hallways she felt full of energy and excitment.

At the sight of Haley Peyton's eyes went wide as she rushed over.

"What the hell are you doing here.!?" Peyton questioned. Her voice booming inside the empty club.

Haley stared back at her. "I'm a singer. A performer. This is an all ages club. Tric is the perfect place for the world and everyone in town to view my talent. Now if you would excuse me. I need to rehearse before performances begin tonight."

"This my club and Deb's. You won't last enough for anyone to remember you're name we'll gurantee that." Peyton said. Turning from Haley as she walked away in a huff.

Weeks Later

"That Bitch! You should of punched her. And Nathan. That bastard. Who the hell does he think he is just throwing money at you as if that is going to repair what he broke. I tell you little sister you have way more self control then i do."

"Between Rachel flaunting her pregnancy and Nathan existing. How do you stay so sane and still find time to be a normal high school student. Doing homework and projects like everything is okay. I'm in awe of you." Taylor James said.

Haley smiled warmly at her sister. "You're giving me way too much credit. I'm just choosing to focus my time and energy on the people who matter the most." She said placing her hand on her growing baby bump. 17 weeks along now. In her 4th month of pregnancy.

"I'm basically a walking belly. At this point. Everyone tries to reach over an touch my stomach. I don't mind it. I am eating everything in sight. The joys of eating for three people. The twins and myself. The babies can hear me now when i talk to them. Every night before i got to bed i sing them a lullaby. Which probably sounds so silly." Haley said.

"Not at all. That's really sweet. And momma loves cooking for you this much. So keep making request when you want. She misses being able to take care of us like that. Since we all moved out." Taylor said.

"It means alot having their support and yours and Quinn's." Haley said.

"You will never not have us in you're corner. We're family." Taylor said.

...

"You want to go to therapy.?" Haley questioned. Looking to Nathan.

The two seated beside each other in Haley's home.

"Yes i think in order for us to co parent in a peaceful way. We have to work through our issues and come to place of understanding and forgiveness." Nathan said.

Haley felt her eyes roll in the back of her head at the mention on undertstanding and forgiveness.

"Fine. I'm willing to try it. But we both have to be open and honest otherwise it won't work." Haley said.

"It's a deal. I'll text you the address, time, and day of our appointment." Nathan said.

"Speaking of parenting. In terms of custody. You have the freedom to see the twins as much as possible. It's on you to secure and build a relationship with them. If that isn't something you see as possible i need to know now. I won't have my kids hearts get broken because their father sees them as an afterthought." Haley said.

"You have nothing to worry about. I'm going to be a full time father to all my children. I spent years wanting and waiting for my parents to hear me and really see me. It still feels like i'm waiting on that. I won't put my kids through that." Nathan said.

The Davis Home

Brooke was surprised at the sight of multiple bags Rachel had scattered all over living room.

She took a breath and looked to her friend. "Someone had a busy day. I thought that money Nate gave you was for the baby and expenses surrounding that.?" Brooke asked.

Rachel gazed back at her. "The kid won't be here for months. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy myself in the meantime. Just a heads up i'm having a party at the end of the week. Some friends and people they know. No big deal." She said.

"But you're pregnant and living in my house. And you know have homework and stuff to do. A party shouldn't be a priority now." Brooke said.

"So my life has to stop that isn't happening." Rachel said. Getting up from where she was seated.

Brooke felt her head spin as she smelled the lingering scent of alcohol on Rachel's breath.
