Chapter 26

Another Escape.

Remi Shaw wasn't afraid of much. She had seen and survived nearly every imaginable obstacle and had lived to tell the tale. Now it seemed as if she had finally met her match. This time it was in the form of a giant beast of a creature that was currently charging toward her on four legs the size of tree trunks. Its head bowed as it let out a bellow that echoed through the canyon walls, she found herself trapped within. Its sound shook her to the core. Cursing her current situation wasn't helping her much but then again not much else ever did. Bad luck and trouble seemed to follow her...everywhere. She was in turn a bad luck charm, an unwanted omen. She had been running for what felt like hours her faithful companion still tethered to her. He had grabbed her hand pulling her along and yelling at her to keep running. What in the hell did he think she was doing? She sure wasn't doing this for her health.

The creature kept coming so they kept running. If she lived, which she hoped, she was never going to live it down. She could hear it now Remington Shaw, captain of the cargo ship Renegade taken out not by defending the resistance but by a giant beast bent on stomping her to death. Not the most heroic way to go and so, so...stupid!

In their blind run she saw something in the distance that could possibly be their salvation. She knew they wouldn't make it back to her ship, hell she wasn't even sure they could make it out of the canyon. But maybe they could survive long enough for her crew to find them.

Tightening her hold on his hand and pulled him in that direction. Finding their destination she dove in finding it a rather tight fit. It was basically a hole in the ground covered by an out crop of rocks. She squeezed herself as tightly and as tiny as she could pulling Poe as close to her as possible. He wrapped his arm around her pulling her as close as possible and stayed as far back from the entrance as possible. Burying her head into his chest she did something she hadn't done in a long time, she prayed hoping someone out there would come for them. Someone that wasn't going to turn them over to the enemy that is. She felt more than saw the beast thunderous approach jerking when it started to claw and pound at their hiding spot. She clung to Poe even tighter and he held her even more so. She just wanted this to end. She wanted to be back on her ship with her family. This had all been such a terrible idea, all of it. She let out a terrified scream as its claws swiped at her arm. The noise was deafening and she wasn't sure how much longer she could hang on.

Suddenly there was a loud high pitched sound that made her cringe and cover her ears. The creature yelped in pain as it reared back and took off in the opposite direction. Neither one of them moved for a moment lock on to each other as if they were the others life line which in a sense they were. She didn't know what had actually driven it away and she wasn't sure she wanted to.

"Hey, you okay?" Poe whispered in her ear as she still snuggled against his chest as she tried to get her heart beat and breathing under control.

"I think so." She whispered back still holding on to him as if her life depended on it. He in returned held her even closer if that was possible. She was about to ask him what had driven the creature away when suddenly a head popped into their line of vision.

"Hey." They both yelled in unison at being startled as a very familiar smiling yet worried face came to their rescue. "You two okay?"

"Stilts!" Remi was never so happy to see someone in her life.

"Hey." Poe answered back a big smile rested on his face.

"You two look like hell." He answered as he helped them out of their hole. Both stood side by side still tied together and still holding on to one another. Stilts gave them a bit of a smirk and a raised eyebrow. "So what happened?"

"Long story." She answered.

"Looong story." He answered at exactly the same time. Stilts just shook his head, seeing the two of them still clutching on to one another and looking at each other as if they were the only two that mattered. He turned around and motioned to them to follow him.

"Come on. Ships this way and we need to hurry. Company is not that far off."

"So I see you really followed my orders to leave Jon." She spook up. He didn't turn around but she saw him shrug and knew that a smile was firmly in place.

"Knew you would need some help there Cap." Jon Stilts a man of few words.

"Well I for one am very grateful for the assistance." Poe responded as he tugged her forward. She stumbled slightly but kept moving forward.

"I'm grateful." She mumbled.

"Oh she can be humble." Poe teased her.

"I'm humble." She bit back growing red in the face.

"Don't take this the wrong way sweetheart but humble is not exactly a word in your vocabulary…OWE!" She had punched him in the arm at the comment. Stilts just chuckled as he started to lead them from the canyon.

"Well it looks like I owe Nix my next weeks pay."

"Wait…what?" She asked but didn't get an answer.

"Let's get you two home."

"Home sounds good." She answered as Poe took her hand in his and looked down at her with a look she couldn't quite name.

"Yeah, home would be nice." He said with a gentle smile gracing his lips. They had literally been through hell, covered in mud and bruises, tired sore and yet she felt light happy almost. Yes they still needed to leave and get as far away from all of this and yes she needed to finish her mission but for the first time ever she felt less along and content. So she asked the one question to herself that she had always been afraid to ask. Where was home? Home she decided was right where it should be she just needed to accept that. Home, what a concept.

A/N I know it's been forever and I have maybe 2 or 3 chapters left. Thank you all for who have stuck through this with me and for all the kind reviews. I love the star wars universe and characters in it so this has been a fun journey for me. For anyone interested I am also writing a Ben Solo/OFC story called Fractured and there is an interesting little piece I am working on that will be posted at a later date surrounding General Hux/OFC . How will he respond to having his perfectly constructed world messed up by a chaotic sarcastic little snip of sass? Can't wait to find out. Until next time!-AB
