Chapter 34

It has been a few weeks after my conversation with the King and my tiny breakdown in front of T'Challa. I have decided to spend some more time in Wakanda and forget about the incident.

I continued my trainings with Okoye and I think Shuri must've updated my phone quite a few times by now.

I tried to forget about the danger that I was apparently in, but you can never forget about it completely. Keeps me awake at night sometimes. I definitely have developed a very light sleep routine. Every little noise wakes me up. I might be a little paranoid, but I mean, wouldn't everybody?

Today, I woke up with T'Challa walking around my room.

"You are starting to worry me now." He comments, sitting next to me. I sit up and lay my head on his shoulder.

"Why do you say that?" I ask, my voice sleepy.

"I'm wearing the boots from the suit. You shouldn't hear a thing."

"Didn't hear you. Felt you moving around." I answered, getting up and walking to the bathroom.

"That just worries me even more!" he exclaimed. "Just tell me what happened. I know it was after you talked with my father." He said, making me stop next to the bathroom door. "I talked with everybody and Okoye told me you got out of my father's office quite shaken." He continued, walking to me and taking me in his arms. "What did he say to you?"

I looked him in the eyes and whispered.

"If I told you, it would break your heart."

"What would?" he asked, tightening his grip on me.

"I'm sorry."

When I got out of the bathroom, T'Challa wasn't there. I guess him storming away makes this an official fight.

I decided to go do some work next to Shuri on her lab. I can't stand to be alone at the moment. I even have requested Okoye to walk me from room to room sometimes.

When I arrived at the lab, Shuri was already there.

"Good morning Shuri." I greeted, sitting down at my desk. Yes, I already have a desk here.

"Good morning sweet sister-in-law!" she greeted me back. She has developed a habit of calling me her sister-in-law. At first, I panicked because I thought T'Challa was going to propose or something, but when he acted just as confused as me when she called me it in front of him, I calmed down. You can never be too prepared to live with Shuri. She does the most random things sometimes. "Did you have a fight with my brother?"

I looked at her surprised. How did she know that?

"What makes you think that?" I asked her, logging into my computer and starting to connect with my second in command to know what has happened in the last few days at SHIELD.

"Well, besides the fact that you are here in the morning and not with T'Challa as you normally are, which you only do when you two fight." She starts. Well, we have been fighting quite a lot. "I just received a message from him, telling me to tell you, that he was going away with my father on a diplomatic trip in a few days, but that he was going now to prepare everything." She finishes, looking at me with an all-knowing smile. "I mean, him letting you be two minutes without him next to you is astounding but going away and not telling you anything in person shows that he's mad."

"Sometimes I wish you weren't that smart." I say quietly. We stay silent for a few minutes.

One thing you don't know about Shuri is that, even thought you might think she's quite the sarcastic girl, she is amazingly sweet. She just shows it in a different way. Sometimes when I'm stressing, she'll make me a cup of tea. Or when T'Challa and I fight, she'll just be there for me, quietly present, like a reassurance of her love.

This time she chose to start braiding my hair while I work.

"Shouldn't you be doing your own work?" I ask.

"It can wait." She says in a sweet voice.

"Thank you." I tell her quietly.

"Don't worry about it."

With T'Challa away, even if there was Okoye and Shuri and even the Queen here, I didn't feel safe. And therefore, I decided to ask Okoye and the Queen for permission to go back to New York. Of course, they accepted, quite reluctantly. I tried to ask them to not tell anybody, but they couldn't promise me that.

One of the Dora Milaje flew me to New York that evening and dropped me off at a park near the Avengers Tower.

When I got to the tower, everybody was surprised to see me. Tony, Pepper, Bruce and Nat were having dinner when I walked out of the elevator.

"Lizzy!" Tony exclaimed from the table, getting up and walking towards me.

"We weren't expecting you." Pepper said a bit worried.

"Did you jump?" Tony asked when he reached me. I let my head fall to his chest and sighed. "What happened Lizzy? You don't seem to be hurt." He whispered, hugging me tight.

"I'm not…physically." I answered.

I stayed there for a bit. Finally feeling safe after a really long time. Inside my head I'm asking myself if I should tell Tony or not. Might as well. He's not going to rest until I tell him everything that is going on.

I let go of him and start walking towards the table.

"I hope there's enough for one more." I ask trying to sound happy.

"Cut the crap Sof, what happened?" Nat asked, as I sat next to her. I looked down at my lap for some time until I decided that I should tell them.

"I'm in danger." I say quietly. Their faces change immediately. Pepper and Bruce look at me with a worried face while Nat and Tony look around the house, checking for danger. I see Nat reaching for her guns. "Calm down, I don't think that he'll come here." I state, reaching for Nat's hand that was under the table, certainly holding her gun.

"What do you mean? Who wants to hurt you?" Tony asks, his voice angry.

"They must have a death wish if they're threatening you." Nat exclaims.

"What I mean is that…God, I don't even know if I can tell you this!" I groan, rubbing my forehead.

"Yes, you can Lizzy! If someone's trying to hurt you, you need to tell us!" Tony demanded.

"I know, but there's somethings in your future that you shouldn't know about!" I tried to reason. "But I guess you're right, you should know." I agreed. "You know that I when I jump it's always around you guys. But there's one of you that lives in Africa that you don't know yet. He's very powerful both as a superhero and as a normal person." I start. "He's also, my boyfriend." I say, making them look at me with surprised expressions.

"Lizzy, I thought that this boyfriend of yours was a normal guy, not someone important." Tony admitted, quietly.

"I already know who your boyfriend is." Nat told us, quite nonchalantly.

"I guess as much."

"What I didn't know was that he was a superhero." She added.

"Who is it then?" Tony asked, making me give him a side eye.

"It's in your future Tony, can't tell you. You already know too much." I answer. "Anyway, his father is even more important and has more resources than him. Needless to say, that he also was once a superhero, locally." I continued. "The problem is, he has done something most would consider bad and therefore was worried that I knew of that. I, of course, know. Which for him is a threat. He ordered me to stay quiet and not tell his son. I…I tried to deny his order, but he threatened to, and I quote, "end his son's happiness".

"Which I'm guessing is you." Pepper said quietly.

"Yes, at least I think so."

"So, he threatened your life just because he didn't want his son to know what he did?" Tony exclaimed loudly. "Who is that guy?"

"I can't tell you Tony!"

"Bullshit! I have to know to be able to protect you Sofia!" He yells again.

"Would you calm down?" I yell back. He looked at me surprised. "I know it's hard for you but it's even harder for me! If I say I can't tell you then I can't tell you! You think that this has been easy? I haven't slept for weeks. My boyfriend knows something is up, but I can't tell him so he's mad! And I'm in obvious danger!" I yell, letting my anger out. "So, let's all calm down!"

We stayed quiet for some time, silently eating, until Nat decided to interrupt the silence.

"You're not safe here." She said, looking at Tony. He looked back at her for a while, as if he was debating her mentally.

"As much as I hate to say it, she's right Tony." Bruce decided to finally pronounce himself. Tony groaned.

"I know." He sighed. "The first place they'll look for you Lizzy, is here, with me."

"I know. But it was the first place I thought of coming. I had to get out of there, and the tower was the most probable place I would find someone." I explain.

"I'm going back to Washington tomorrow, you can come with me." Nat exclaimed. As Nat talked, I remembered something.

"Nat, what year is it?" I ask suspiciously.

"2014 why do you ask Sof?" She answers warily.

"Is cap in Washington now?"

"Yes." Bruce answered this time.

"Okay, I'll go with you. But you can't lock me in a room."

"Why would she lock you in a room?" Pepper asks innocently.

"Because there will be some shit going down." I explain. "And I have to be there."

"Fuck!" Tony curses.
