Chapter 35
I was sitting in bed, my back resting against the headboard, on my phone checking somethings for shield and texting with Shuri. She was quite preoccupied. She was telling me that they have already informed T'Challa and that he wasn't pleased. He must be pissed probably, but I mean, he kind of did the same thing.
I had just finished sending an email to Fury and my second in command saying that I would be arriving in Washington tomorrow and the next day I would start going to the office. Also, to Fury, I asked to arrange transportation for me since I wouldn't have Tony's cars to drive around.
First thing I'll do, is definitely a meeting to know what is going on and start from there.
As I was organizing my schedule for the next week, I heard a small knock on my door and then it opened, showing me Tony's face.
He gave me a small smile as he laid down next to me on the bed, one arm behind his head while the other rested on his stomach. I continued siting there typing away on my phone.
"Are you sure you don't want to stay here?" Tony asked. "We can go away, take a long trip around Europe… he won't find us there." He promised making me put my phone aside and lay next to him.
"You know that I would stay with you if I could. But it's not that simple. They could easily track us down and I don't want to put you in danger." I replied, sighing. "To be honest, I think the only one that stands a pretty good chance to fight him is probably Cap." As I finish saying this Tony looks at me offended.
"Capsicle? The old man? Lizzy, I think you're on drugs." Tony mocked.
"Tony, he fights his son in the future, and it is a pretty big fight." I explain, laying my head on his shoulder.
"I just don't like to be away from you when I know you're in danger." He murmurs angrily.
"Don't cry big baby. We can video chat." I laugh, and he pouts.
I start getting comfortable and ready to sleep, when he kisses my forehead and slowly exhales.
"I'm not going anywhere, sleep." Just as he finishes, I fall asleep.
In the morning everything was chaos. I still hadn't packed a bag and Tony decided to be the biggest pain in my ass. Eventually, Natasha and I succeeded in getting out of the house.
As soon as we got to Washington, she made sure to drop me off at the hotel I was going to be staying in while Tony was searching for a house to buy. I certainly didn't want him to buy a house, I could just as easily have found an apartment to rent, but he insisted, saying that he would need a place to stay when he visited.
Well, that I believe.
As soon as I got settled in my hotel room, Natasha rushed me out of the hotel, and we started walking towards Steve's apartment. It wasn't very far away, and I'm sure one of the reasons why is the fact that I am in possible danger. Even if I don't really believe that the King would come after me now. He would risk to much.
When we got to Steve's place, he welcomed us in and said that dinner was almost done.
"So, I heard that you'll be staying here in Washington for some time?" He asked, handing me and Nat a glass of wine.
"Yup, I don't know for how long though. Tony's looking for some places to buy. Insists that he should have a house here for when he comes to visit." I explain, taking a sip, and leaning against the kitchen counter. Nat decided to sit down at the table.
"I also heard that you're here running from someone that wants to harm you." He speaks, stirring the pasta that was boiling and then turning to face me.
"Nat!" I exclaim, looking at her.
"I didn't explain anything, just gave a heads up." She excuses herself, raising her hands in surrender.
"C'mon Sofia, what is really going on?" he asked. I sighed and downed my wine.
"Okay, so…My boyfriend is the prince of a small country in Africa. He is also a future superhero. I can't say anything else about him because you will meet him in the future." I started, looking at them. "His father has a terrible secret that I know of and he threatened, and I quote, 'to end his son's happiness'."
"You then, he threatened to kill you." Steve assumed.
"I suppose so, yes."
"What is the secret? You didn't tell when we were with Tony." Nat questioned.
"Well, basically, he killed his brother, that had apparently betrayed their country, while protecting a friend and left his nephew there, all alone." I tried to explain shortly.
"Okay, that is messed up." She concluded.
"So now he's searching for you." Steve assumed.
"I don't think so. But he is definitely afraid that I will tell his son. So, I'm not sure."
"Why come to Washington then? SHIELD could easily hide you somewhere."
"They have ways of finding me. So, I decided to come to where I would be protected." I say, looking at Steve. "Which is, with you."
"I'm assuming that not many people stand a chance then." Steve laughed.
"According to her, you will be in quite a big fight with her boyfriend in the future. So, you might be the only that stands a chance, yeah." Nat says. "I mean, I don't want to doubt you Sof but I'm sure I could take his royal highness down." She continued, smirking, making us laugh. It certainly lighted the mood.
"So, I'm assuming that you'll resume your job at SHIELD?" Steve continued the conversation.
"I never actually stopped but yeah, I will. Why?" I ask suspiciously.
"I'll give you a ride there. You're starting tomorrow?" he asks again nonchalantly.
"Yeah, but like… wait a damn minute!" I interrupt. "What do you mean by 'I'll give you a ride'? Steve, I'm here because I feel safer, but I don't exactly need a babysitter."
"Sof, you're crazy if you think I'm not going to have my eyes on you at all times now."
"Maybe this was a bad idea. If I wanted a babysitter I would've stayed with Tony!" I exclaim.
"Sof, try and comprehend us. You're in danger! We'll try to do everything in our power to help!" Nat tried to reason with me. "Do you think I'm the only SHIELD agent here? As soon as I sent the alert that you were in danger to Fury, protocol Doctor Who started." She chuckles at the end.
"There's a fucking protocol for me? Doctor Who?" I asked, quite loudly, looking at them both.
"I didn't know about that!" Steve exclaimed, raising his hands in defeat.
"Fury created it. Several years ago, I think. In the nineties if I'm not wrong." She explained.
"Oh hell, I know why. Damn it." I sighed.
"Really? What happened in the nineties?" Steve asked, innocently.
"That's classified." I responded. "And besides, Fury should've known better." I grumble.
"Anyway, let's have dinner." Steve said, turning off the stove.
"Yes, please. And honestly, I need to keep my anger inside so tomorrow Fury can take it all." I say, angrily sitting on the chair, making the others laugh.
"Is eight good?" He asks.
"What?"
"For me to pick you up, is eight good?" He chuckles and I groan.
"Nine please. I work from nine to five, to stay alive." I grin, making Nat chuckle too.
"I didn't get it." Steve states, confused.
"Write down Beyoncé on that little list of yours."
