Words Aren't Enough
Chapter 31
Brooke locked her car doors and got out her cellphone she went into her speed dial and clicked on Lucas's phone number. She put the phone to her ear as the dial tone rang once then twice.
At the sound of his voice picking up on the other end of the line she felt herself grow calm.
"How did it all go.?" Lucas asked.
"It went well. They heard everything that was on the phone. They kept the phone as evidence and i told them i want arrest warrants put out for both Dan and Deb. Then i left the station and called you. I'm on my way to the store now. Rachel is going to need to cover for me while i take some personal time off. Our family needs to be priority before anything else. I love you too. I'll be home soon." Brooke said. Ending the call. Turning off her cellphone. Putting it back in her purse as she pulled out of the police station driveway.

The police station
The head officer closed the door to his office and looked to his partner.
"Even with this damning evidence we can't go through with arresting Dan Scott and his wife." The officer said.
The female officer looked back at her partner in shock.
"What the hell are you talking about! Because of Brooke Davis coming forward this case should be open and shut. Dan is guilty of two counts of murder one being his own. His wife is guilty in her own right by knowing about these crimes and choosing to be silent."
"Those young children lost both parents. Dan Scott is guilty. I'm drawing up the warrants if you don't." She said.
"Dan Scott is a powerful man. He has more money and connections then anyone in this town. If we go forward with pressing charges he could come after us or the entire department." The male officer said.
"Doesn't matter about the risks to us. We owe justice to the people who were murdered. Their children, their family and friends. He took their lives now he must pay with his." The female officer said. As she turned from her partner and left the room to draw up the papers.

Sometime Later
"I'm not leaving town Dan. All i have left is my grandchildren. Who knows when i'll see them again if i go." Deb said.
"We've done too much to stay here. Leaving is the only way to ake sure we don't get caught. Stop talking and start packing right now!" He yelled.
Deb took a breath and grabbed her suitcase.
"Where are we going.?" She asked. As she began stuffing clothes from her closet into her suitcase.
"Anywhere in the world as long as it's far away. We'll begin a new life." Dan said.

The couple made it down the stairs and out the front door.
Before the police squad car parked in their driveway.
The officers exited the vehicle guns blazing.
At the sight of the officers Deb stopped her suitcase and lifted her hands.
"Dan Scott you are under arrest for the murder of Nathan and Haley Scott. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you." The female officer said. Placing the handcuffs on his wrists.
The partner of the officer handcuffed Deb and read her the Miranda rights before leading her towards the squad car.

Hours Later
The news of Dan and Deb's arrest shocked everyone except for the Scott and James family. Who were able to breath somewhat easier knowing Dan was in custody.
Lydia and Jimmy James put aside their sickness and push through their grief as they begin the process of putting together a funeral service for their daughter.
"Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help." Brooke said. Hanging up the phone as she took ahold of Lucas's hand the couple made their way inside the lawyer's office.
The couple sat beside each other at the lawyer's desk.
Astrid, Jamie, and Lydia were being looked after by Lucas's parents Karen and Keith.
"I apologized over the phone but now that we're meeting in person i want to do it again. You're meeting with me today to discuss what exactly.?" The older man asked.
"Custody of the children. Jamie and Lydia." Lucas said.
"I'm Jamie's godmother. Lucas and I are Lydia's godparents. Now that the worst has happened. It only makes sense that the kids are given to us. Jimmy and Lydia are older and not in the best health as you know. We just need confirmation that we can go forward with gaining full custody of Lydia and Jamie without an issue." Brooke said.
The lawyer looked through his files then back at them.
"Everything you stated is written here. The money Haley was left with by Nathan now goes to the children along with their trust funds. That kick in at 18 and 21. Bottom line is do you truly want to take this on.? Haley has sisters Quinn and Taylor if you don't. Techincally you aren't truly obligated here. This kind of commitment can't be reversed once it's done." He questioned.
"We are ready and willing to step up." Lucas said.
"Just tell us where to sign." Brooke said.
