Chapter 27

"So when are you going back to L.A.?" Rachel asked, resting her head on one hand and using the other to draw circles around Quinn's belly button. She watched the fine blonde hairs vibrating as goose bumps started to form wherever her hand touched her.

Quinn closed her eyes for a moment and let out a deep breath as she tried to push away her worries for just another second. All she wanted was to enjoy this moment with Rachel and not think about tomorrow, but she knew she had no choice.

She let her hand wander over the sheets of Rachel's bed, which were still damp from their encounter until she reached the other woman's body. Carefully, she painted a line from the warm flesh of her thigh to her waist as if the canvas that was her skin might break if she pressed to hard.

"I'm flying back tomorrow," the blonde replied and turned on her side, so her face came close to Rachel's. The look in the diva's eyes almost broke her heart.

"Oh, I see," she said, visibly trying to keep a steady voice.

They fell silent for a couple of heartbeats before she whispered: "I don't want you to go." And before she had finished the sentence she had started to cry.

"Don't cry, baby," Quinn said as she immediately wrapped her arms around her. "I don't want to stay in L.A.; not in the long term. I miss New York."

Rachel sniffed while she pulled away and looked up to her. "So you will come back?"

"Eventually, yes," Quinn nodded and smiled.

"When?"

"My contract expires in three months." Quinn looked at Rachel while she stroked away a tear from Rachel's cheek. "Can you wait for me?"

"I could wait for three years if I had to," Rachel replied.

"Don't be silly, no one waits that long," Quinn smiled and pushed a strand of Rachel's hair behind her ear.

"You did," Rachel said. "You waited for me longer than anybody ever should."

Quinn didn't answer. It didn't matter anymore. She knew Rachel had understood now and there was nothing left unsaid between them.

"Is it safe to assume that you agree to be my girlfriend again?" The brunette asked with uncertainty in her eyes.

Quinn looked at her with an unreadable expression before her lips curved into a smile and she nodded. "Yes."

Rachel felt relief wash over her and she wrapped her arms around the other woman. That one word and the feeling of Quinn's skin on hers made her happier than she had ever been. Even happier than she had been on her first day back on stage.

"You're truly a star, Rachel," Quinn said after a couple of moments.

"Huh?"

"No matter where I am, you always show me the way back to you. Kind of like the North Star, don't you think?"

"I guess that's a good thing then," Rachel shrugged.

"It is. Definitely." Quinn pulled her closer and kissed her slowly. "And now let's continue where we left off," she purred and Rachel just grinned.

3 Years later

"It took you two bitches long enough!" Santana's voice filled the air and made the couple flinch simultaneously. When the Latina stepped from the house into the garden, however, her voice instantly changed.

"I can't believe I am witnessing you two getting married!" she almost cried and flung herself around Quinn's neck while she pulled Rachel into the embrace with her other arm.

"Uhm-," Rachel began, but then all the air was knocked from her lungs as an over-enthusiastic Brittany squeezed the trio from behind.

"That's totally awesome! You're babies are gonna be so cute!" the blonde exclaimed and squeezed a little more, inciting a collective groan from each woman.

"It's still a little early for that," Rachel remarked after Brittany had finally released them.

"Did I mention how much I adore garden weddings?" another voice suddenly mixed in.

"Kurt!" Rachel squealed and hugged him.

"Your suit is totally awesome," Brittany appreciated and gave him a thumbs up.

"Thanks, Brittany," Kurt replied while he straightened the fabric which had yellow ducks on a navy background woven into it.

Kurt mustered Rachel and Quinn. "Why are you not in your wedding dresses yet?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

"We'll put them on a little later," Rachel explained. "We didn't want to see each other in the dress, but still welcome everyone together."

"You wanted that," Quinn intervened. "I don't believe in that 'don't see each other before the wedding crap'."

Rachel rolled her eyes at her, but laughed and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.

The group of friends dispersed when more and more guests started to arrive and each of them found someone to talk to.

Most of the glee club members had made it and even Will and Emma had arrived with their three kids. Rachel and the glee members had eventually managed to make up after Rachel had attended one of their reunions and many apologies and words of forgiveness had been exchanged. Then there were their families, some of Quinn's college friends and some of Rachel's musical colleagues. Of course Lola was there as well, accompanied by her wife of one year and their baby daughter.

While Rachel was receiving updates about the latest celebrity gossip from Kurt, Hiram Berry walked up to her and placed his arm on her shoulder. "Honey, there's a delivery for you."

"Really?" Rachel looked up to him. "Okay, I'll get it." She smiled and walked inside the house. When she entered the spacious living room she found a huge bouquet of flowers in an expensive looking vase on the dining table. Next to the vase was a citrus colored envelope with a small white bow attached to it. Curious of who would send such a pretty gift, Rachel reached for the envelop and pulled out a card from it.

'Dear Rachel,

Congratulations on your wedding. Maybe you don't even remember me and if you do, you might have wished to never hear from me again. Despite everything, I want to wish you a lifetime of happiness and joy. May you and Quinn always love and cherish each other and withstand all the challenges that might come at your way in the future.

I think about you from time to time and I am happy your dream to become an actress on Broadway became true after all.

May god be with you and your wife at all times.

Yours,

Mary Green'

Rachel read the card several times until she had fully grasped its contents. She wondered how Mrs. Green had heard about her wedding, but she was even more curious about what had happened that made the old lady come to accept the fact that love between two women existed.

"Rach?" she heard Quinn's voice coming from behind and a moment later the blonde's arms wrapped around her body. Quinn placed her chin on Rachel's shoulder and took a look at the card Rachel was still holding in her hand.

"What do you think?" Rachel asked.

"Seems like miracles really happen," Quinn replied and placed a kiss on Rachel's cheek.

"I wonder what made her change her mind like this," Rachel said as she relaxed into Quinn's embrace.

Quinn laughed quietly into Rachel's ear and the sound was so beautiful to her that the moment suddenly seemed unreal as if taken out of a dream she never wanted to wake up from.

"How about we invite her over and find out?" Quinn suggested.

Rachel turned around and faced her wife to be. "Good idea."

The two women looked at each other for a couple of moments until Quinn cupped Rachel's cheeks and placed a kiss on her forehead. "I love you," she said after she pulled back.

"Quinn?"

"Yes?"

"How about we get married now?"

Quinn looked at her in confusion. "This is our wedding, aren't we getting married now?"

"I mean right now, in this moment." Rachel took Quinn's hands into her own and looked up to her. "Just you and me and no one else."

"We don't have the rings. And we're not in our wedding dresses yet" Quinn stated, but she was smiling.

"Who cares. Now is now," Rachel replied and squeezed Quinn's hands.

She turned her head and looked through the glass that constituted almost the whole front wall of their living room. She looked at the smiling faces of their friends and family, at the green grass and the blue sky, the tables with food and the flowers lining their wide garden. Then she looked back at Quinn and took in every detail of her. Her peach colored cocktail dress, her hair that she wore in a bun, her light makeup around her hazel eyes and the fine lines that had started forming around them during the last years.

"I can't believe we're getting married," Quinn whispered and closed her eyes for a second as if she had to ground herself in reality. "I dreamed of this almost all my life."

"I know," Rachel whispered, unable to come up with words that would describe what she was feeling in that moment.

"Thank you," Quinn smiled as a single tear ran down her cheek.

"For what?"

"For not giving up on me in the end."

"Thank you for never stopping to love me." Rachel wiped away the tear on Quinn's face.

"Lucy Quinn Fabray? Will you take me as your wife and stand by my side in good and bad times?"

Quinn smiled. "You do know that this is not official, don't you? We have to do that again later or our guest will kill us."

"Let's just pretend, okay?" Rachel laughed. "So what is your answer?" She tilted her head and looked at Quinn with expectation.

Quinn shook her head, but smiled at the same time. "Yes." Her voice sounded hoarse and she cleared her throat. "I do take you as my wife."

She squeezed Rachel's hands and took a deep breath before she asked: "Will you, my beloved Rachel Barbara Berry, take me as your wife and share your life with me no matter what may come?"

"Yes, I do," Rachel replied. Then she formed a circle with her thumb and ring finger and slid an imaginary ring on Quinn's finger.

Quinn did the same and artificially let her voice sound deeper in order to make it sound like someone else was saying it: "I now pronounce you wife and wife."

They laughed and Rachel added: "You may now kiss the bride."

Quinn leaned down and kissed Rachel in blissful happiness. It had been a perfect moment and no one had witnessed it. But if she had taken a look through the window, she would have seen Kurt lowering his camera to check out the photos he had taken through the glass front. If one of them ever considered a divorce he'd make sure to show them these photos and save the day once more.
