Chapter 6
Leaves crunched underneath Elena's shoes as she limped slightly settling beside the first grave, she came across which had been Bonnie's. Her favorite flowers laid across the top, probably put there by her grandmother who thought she would have more time as Elena set down one of her own roses that she had bought for each of the graves she was visiting today. She had done this every week since they had died and it still hadn't helped her grieve, but it did help her get through the week even though she knew they would never talk to her again. She just hoped this pain would end at some point.
"Hey Bon, I miss you."
Closing her eyes, Elena breathed in deep and imagined that Bonnie was right there talking to her. She knew it was an unhealthy coping mechanism, but for right now it was all she had. The only thing keeping her from falling apart.
"I miss you too Elena. We all do." Bonnie answered looking down at the snow on her boots. The same ones she had been wearing when she died.
"Did it hurt?"
"It depends on who you ask. Most of us died instantaneously. "Bonnie answered eyes averting Tyler's gaze.
"I'm sorry. It's awful that you guys suffered."
"We're at peace now. We just hope one day you will be."
"I think that's going to take a while."
"Take all the time you need. You have plenty of time."
Closing her eyes, the visions faded away as Elena took a deep breath and walked away from the graveyard feeling like she could now get through the rest of her day.
"Are you okay?"
Nodding she looked up at her mother as she sat down next to Elena who was now doing her homework.
"I know you don't like me asking that question, but after all that has happened, I want you to know that you can talk to me about anything."
"I know mom. And I'm sorry."
"For what sweetie?"
"For putting you and dad through hell. It was already bad enough when you got the call about the car crash, but I only made it worse at the funeral and I'm sorry for putting you and dad through this pain not once but twice. I can't imagine the pain you felt when you almost lost me twice and I know that it was my fault so I'm sorry for that. Can you ever forgive me?"
"There's nothing to forgive."
Hugging her mother, Elena sighed finally feeling as if she could breath again
