The population of Gondor was 230,000; the population of continental Middle earth was around 400,000; the population of planet Arda was around five million. Wonder plane scans had determined this for me; it had proven very helpful. The Gondor realm had dropped by nearly half over the past few centuries due to civil wars plague and eastern/orc invaders. It had been without a king before Aragorn for nearly a thousand years. This had been the era of the house of steward. They'd been kings in all but name only. The stewards had been far from perfect; but they'd been perceived far better than the line of kings. This city, with so much history, made the the capital after Osgiliath's historic decline, had demonized the line of kings and made it and the very throne itself a symbolic item only; as though meant to serve as a reminder of a bygone past no longer needing to be reclaimed and thus was condemned. This was partly why Denethor's reluctance to cooperate with Gandalf had been so prevalent (beyond his obvious lacking to surrender near total political power over middle earth's most powerful kingdom).
Despite Denethor's negative perceptions at the end of his life he had indeed been a very complicated man. Even Theoden had lost his only son/heir earlier in the one ring war (now Eomer was king of Rohan); Denethor had lost nearly both of his. Views of Denethor throughout the greater realm remained mixed despite his tragic demise. In Gondor he was typically viewed as a great and pragmatic man; beyond Gondor he'd been viewed with disdain, but the human lands beyond Gondor were also poorer. Thus it was my theory that much of anti Gondor sentiment beyond its borders was due to the high wealth that Gondor had amassed over the centuries; especially during the line of steward. And of course Gondor hadn't shared its wealth; the prestige/prosperity of Gondor had been put before all else; easily self justified because Gondor kept the eastern enemies at bay and was most directly descended from legendary Numenor; middle earth's Atlantis. These longstanding views had been solid political items for Gondor to maintain its hold on wealth and power, even at the expense of helping humans around them let alone the other races of middle earth. Despite the king's return these many divisions internal/external were very much still there; and were potent/volcanic.
As this had to do with kingdom security I would treat this like any other spy operation that I'd run in the many universes to date that I'd served in. The goal was to root out the anti king factions and be ready to deal with them. In short Faramir was the carrot; I was the stick. It was my duty as senior adviser to the throne to give the queen whatever she needed to make the best decisions possible to run the kingdom smoothly/effectively as monarch.
I didn't know how much my lovers could assist with this; mostly because they came from honor/shame cultures as I did (they didn't see in shades of gray very well); but serving in creation against brother and being Zeus' heir had forced me to go far beyond that same system from paradise island. My enhanced tutelage under Athena had taught me the need to ever adapt to a changing universe. Thus I had learned the dishonorable espionage arts; and even those of cold blooded assassination. I'd even committed genocide when needed...
Hopefully such extremes wouldn't be needed here, but anything was possible. I needed to monitor Faramir's dealings closely; and be ready to jump in if needed. I appeared the noble amazon royal; but I could easily be the literal personification of necessary evil as well. Bottom line - I wouldn't let the anti crown factions win here; for that would only let brother win here. Not going to happen.
