There's not much in this world that can scare me. Of course, some things are creepy and downright scary would be an understatement to some of the things I've seen, but this wasn't something to be afraid of if I did it right.

I was kneeling on an overhanging ridge, looking out at the last monster camp on the eastern front of Hyrule. Their numbers have gotten quite a bit bigger. Ever since I started clearing the camps, they've been grouping together a lot more now. I'm just scouting for the moment, but it's still very dangerous to be here. I took in all of my surroundings.

Directly in front of my position, there were around 30 dwellings for monsters, ranging from smaller houses to a chieftain's house, which was surrounded by various Hylian heads on spikes. To my right, there was an entrance to the camp, around 30 feet wide. Some small houses surrounded the area around the gate, while I could see some monsters coming in from hunting. My left side had another gate, but this one had no houses near it. Just outside the gate were thousands of burned corpses. I assume they were all Hylians that didn't run. There were no trees, no distinct landmarks, and nothing to distinguish one house from another. I read during my studies at Kakariko that monsters identified their own things by their smell.

Behind me was a hillside overlooking the camp. 20 monsters lay dead behind me, they had a sentry of guards here at a small garrison on the top of this hill. My recon is finished. Tomorrow is the time where fewest monsters will be in the camp, that's when I'll strike. I crept back from the cliffside and stealthy left. None of the monsters saw me, besides the dead ones. I saddled up and readied Dignus for travel back to the cave.

"That wasn't half bad Link," Midna said, from my shadow. Midna was my mother, she was a shadow being that my father fell in love with.

"Thanks." I've never been one for small talk while business is getting done.

"How much longer will you stay here? It's just making those monsters multiply more."

"I'm taking them out tomorrow."

"Ooh! Can I help too!"

"..." She knows that I don't want help with this. This is my task. My responsibility. It would feel wrong to let her be there and help me kill them.

"This is no time for pride Link. I am a lot stronger than you may think." Midna was putting on a cute tone, but I knew her words rang true. Midna took on Ganondorf with my Dad, so of course, I knew she was strong.

"I don't want you to help if it's unnecessary."

"Even if it's unnecessary I want to help. I and Link had some pretty great teamwork, so I bet you and I could make some pretty amazing combos."

"Before that, We would need to go through the practice for them." I spurred on Dignus, and she responded in kind.

"Fine, but next time we get to train together then." I just looked at Midna and smiled with a small nod.

I exited the forest that I had hidden away from and crept toward a small clearing. Nothing in front of me, but there was a smell that I couldn't help but sense. The monster camp had the same smell. I slipped Dignus back into the woods and climbed up a nearby tree. Looking hard, I saw a very small hatch on the left side of the clearing. This complicates things. I wait about an hour for anything that could come out of the hatch but nothing happens. I decide to find another way out of this forest.

Dignus munched on a small apple I gave her and neighed thanks. I had gone north out of the forest so I was close to Death Mountain. The air was much drier than to the west. I looked around the clearing I came upon, this one is much bigger than the previous. There were a few sentries further up north and multiple camps all around the clearing. They claimed the opening to Death Mountain and several other paths to the North. To my left, there was only a small patrol of Boblins, 6 in total. They weren't clustered together per se but within the range of each other for my techniques.

I darted to a nearby tree and shot an arrow into the cliffside they were passing. The arrow had a small length of rope attached that strung along to the tree I was on. Quickly fastening it, I pulled out my sword and began making my descent.

I descended without a sound and 3 of them lost their heads, well 2. I miss one. Quickly recovering, they screamed in anger at me and began rushing. I quickly corrected my mistake, stabbing the one I had missed through the eye. The last two tried to circle me but ended up having deep cuts to both of their chests from a spin attack. Deep enough. They gurgled up black blood and laid still. A deep breath later, I am spurring on Dignus through the path to my camp when Midna pipped,

"You're much more ruthless then Link ya know. He wouldn't fight someone without asking me about them 25 times haha…"

"..."

"But you're both just as focused in these situations. You're definitely his."

"There's one thing I would like to ask. What was Link like when you guys had traveled?" Midna smiled and giggled for a second,

"Link was a proud little pup for a while, he definitely didn't like me for quite a bit, but soon after we got to Lake Hylia and he turned into a wolf again… I felt that he truly started to care about me. I almost died then…"

"..."

"But in the end, Zelda was able to save me. Although she had to sacrifice her golden powers for a bit to do so. I felt different ever since. I started being able to animate myself outside of twilight and shadow. Even after all this time has passed since I gave that power back, I can still show my true form and be unharmed by light. Must be an aftereffect of holiness."

"Haha…" The rest of the ride was spent in peaceful silence.

Soon the small path Link had made to the cave had come into view.
