Chapter 32

.

After speaking with Miguel over the phone Gary Fredo returned to Leita Rose's bed and breakfast. She was arranging certain foods, mainly peanut butter jars, pop tarts, juice and soda. Leita seemed suprised to see Gary here so early in the day.

.

Leita: You saw the weather report?

Gary: What weather report?

Leita: There's a hurricane coming, likely sometime tomorrow morning. When this happens I open up the place to those who need it, free of charge. Would you mind helping me board up all the windows?

Gary: Ofcourse.

.

After Gary boarded up all the windows he helped Leita organize her food.

.

Leita: I buy in bulk. Peanut butter has a long shelf life, but I prefer to use them based on when they expire.

Gary: You mean one that expires October 18th gets used first, then the one that expires October 27th goes next?

Leita: Correct, the same goes for soda and juice. They taste better cold but it's not a requirement. Pop tarts taste better when they've been in the microwave for 30 seconds, but also not a requirement.

Gary: That's smart.

Leita: I try to be prepared, but most will be taken to the local church for those who didn't think ahead.

Gary: You're a good person.

Leita: Just trying to make up for some of my sins. It's called restorative justice.

Gary: I like that. Ofcourse in my line of work we focused mainly on retributive justice.

Leita: In my church, when someone comes here after being released from prison, the reverand makes a little speech. He says "This is, insert name here. He, or she, just got out of prison. They have paid their debt to society, let us welcome them now as our brother or sister in Christ." Perhaps the person who murdered Angel will eventually be welcomed back like that.

Gary: I have to be honest, it is souning more and more like Angel might have committed suicide. The pentagram might have been carved by Samantha Larabee, who has now also taken her own life. Samantha was, spoiled, messed up. And I think she probably encouraged Angel to kill herself. And they are now facing a much higher judgement than the state of Virginia.

Leita: So you're just giving up?

Gary: I doubt I'll ever be able to prove it didn't happen this way, I'm not even sure one way or another. Honestly, short of someone just coming forward with evidence, no more arrests will be made.

Leita: I'll miss you. I don't get many guests.

Gary: Well I can't leave until after this hurricane, not safe to drive out of town just yet. And I don't mind helping the town as best I can. But after that, I should leave.
