Chapter 32 – The Best Laid Plans
"Yes... But with the bikes- "
"We can't wait that long, Modo!"
"Then we leave the girls here?"
"Right... Plan." Stoker silenced the bro's, the under cabinet lights casting just enough illumination for them to see each other within the kitchen. The four Martians jumped as the large clock in the hall sounded midnight before silence fell once more.
"Stoker?" Throttle prompted.
"We need to break into that Tower. Throttle – any ideas?" Stoker sat with arms folded, looking expectantly at the tan furred Commander.
"Well..." Throttle bit back a retort over Stoker's apparent reinstatement of him to the team. "There are multiple ways in, but without the bikes we're going to have no fast way out. I'd say our best option is one of the back entrances. Go in slow and quiet."
"Awww man!" Vinnie whined.
"Vinnie!" Throttle and Modo snapped at the hyperactive furball.
"I hope I don't need to remind you that we're taking a huge risk here youngster." Stoker growled.
"Then we should wait for the bikes to be fixed... Between us and Charley ma'am it wouldn't take long..."
"No, Modo, we can't wait that long." Stoker shook his head.
"We need answers and fast. Who is this Yarg? What are his plans? Has Limburger left earth?" Throttle shook his head. "And of course, where is Kai?"
"Yeah..." Stoker cleared his throat. "We can't wait for the bikes to be fixed, so we'll have to go in without them. And yes, Vinnie, we're using a back entrance"
"What about Charley and Freda coming with us?" Vinnie looked at Throttle and Stoker expectantly. "They're gonna want to come."
"True, but I'm not willing to risk their necks when we're fighting at half strength." Stoker shook his head. "I'd say if we leave early enough we can avoid the question of taking them with us altogether."
"Charley ma'am and Freda ma'am aren't gonna like that." Modo's eye blazed in the dim light.
"Nothing we can do, I'm not taking those girls into this fight..." Stoker growled.
"Remind me which part of this was a good idea?!" Charley groaned as they crept toward their destination.
"Do you want to turn back?" Freda looked over her shoulder.
"We'll be fine." Primer grinned, teeth flashing in the darkness. Charley rolled her eyes. It was a clear night, the moonlight casting eerie shadows across the floors of Limburger Tower. They'd already worked their way up several staircases. Now they were within sneezing distance of Limburger's rooms.
"Famous last words..." Charley grumbled with feeling. She'd heard that sentiment too often from a certain white furball called Vinnie...
"Come on..." Freda beckoned. "We find Stinkfish. Find out who this Yarg character is. Hopefully find Kai. Then we get the hell out of here!"
"Well, well, who is this creeping about my most inept and lacklustre colleague's halls so late at night?" A chilling voice echoed from the doorway they'd been headed for.
"Oh shit..." Freda hissed. Charley rolled her eyes; they were really for it now.
