Firstly, I must apologize for not replying to the reviews that were left for the last chapter. We have had more storms than usual this past month, and the power has been knocked out several times. Now with the spring tides, we are expecting to have a few more.

The chapter is longer than usual, but I couldn't see where to cut it to make two chapters.

Also, Renee's death is explained, and it might be a trigger for some readers. It's a paragraph long, so skip that little bit if you think it might be too upsetting to read.

Chapter 32

Bella

We've been sitting in the car waiting for Fred to come home from work. An hour and a half has passed. I was beginning to wonder if he was coming home.

"Bella, are you okay that we never had our honeymoon?" Edward asks.

"Edward, I've told you many times I'm fine with coming home early. As soon as I heard your dad was missing and Jasper is running things, I was going to suggest coming back. Jasper needs to be stopped. I'm just glad that Nonno had a plan put together. At least this way we will be able to take them by surprise," I replied. "I love your hair like this, and wearing glasses again takes me back to why I fell for you in the first place."

"I think you might have mentioned that last night and twice this morning."

"I didn't hear you complaining."

"I'll never complain about you showing me how much you love my hair," Edward says as he kisses my hand.

We sit in silence while I play with Edwards long fingers.

"What are you thinking about so hard over there?"

"I'm hoping that your Uncle Harry's as good as you say he is. If not, we'll have to take Anna and Luca out ourselves. You've got to understand, Bella, I wouldn't have agreed to come to see your friends if it wasn't so important to you. When the boss gives you instructions, you follow it to the letter."

"I know I'm wrong going against the plan. I just can't let my friends get into trouble with the cops because of me. They believed that they could trust Anna. I promise this will be the last time I ask you to go against instructions. I love you, Edward."

"As I love you."

We both just sit there in silence while we watch.

"Edward, did you used to sit like this for hours on your own when you were working. It's boring; no wonder you took up smoking."

Edward chuckles softly.

"Bella, is that Fred coming down the street?"

"Yes, that's Jake with him."

I'm shaking as we leave the car and walk across the road towards Fred's apartment. I stand to the side of Edward so I can't be seen. I watch as Edward pulls his baseball cap further down, hiding his eyes. He is holding a pizza box in his hands. Edward pushes the buzzer to Fred's apartment.

"Can I help you," Fred asks through the intercom.

"Pizza," Edward replies.

"We didn't order pizza. You must have the wrong address."

"Is this 1722 Summit Avenue?"

"Yes, it is, but we never ordered a pizza."

"Look, man, it's been paid for, this is my last call, and I've got a date tonight. Give a guy a break and just come and get it or let me in. Either way, I need to get going."

"Okay, I'll buzz you in," Fred sighs.

Edward grabs my hand as the door buzzes open.

"Stay close to me. Let's hope they'll listen to us. Before they call the cops."

"I'm going to ask them to call Angie. I'm not going through the story twice."

Edward lifts his hand and knocks on the door.

"Are you sure this pizza is for this address," Jake asks.

"I'm sure," Edward says as he pushes into the apartment.

Walking behind him, I smile at Fred when I see the look of horror on his face.

"Hi, you two; please don't call the cops. Edward and I are here to talk to you, there's a shit storm about to hit, and I don't want you guys caught up in it without being prepared," I inform them.

"Is he the one who kidnapped you, Gaby?" Jake gasps out.

"It's Bella, and no, Edward is my husband. Could you ask Angie to come over and then we can speak to you about what I've learned?"

"I'll call Angie," Jake adds.

"Don't mention we are here. I'll come with you. I don't trust you guys," Edward informs them.

"Are you sure that you're okay? Did he force you to marry him? Does he have anything over you? Where have you been?" Fred panics.

"Fred, Edward's a great guy. Under different circumstances, I'm sure you would like him. He has nothing over me, and I've been in Italy with my family," I gush.

"You have some seriously expensive clothes on Gaby… I mean, Bella," Jake remarks.

"Thank you. My cousin made this dress. She is much better than Alice," I answer.

There is a knock on the door, and both Edward and I pull out our guns.

"Bella, you have a gun," Fred gasps.

"Jake, ask who it is," I whisper.

"Who is it?" Jake shouts through the door.

"It's us; you promised pizza. I'm starving," Angie shouts back.

I move next to Edward out of the line of vision from the door.

Jake nervously opens the door. "Come in."

"Why didn't you tell me this afternoon that you wanted us to come over? I would have bought a dessert - Oh my god, Gaby, how did you manage to get away. Let me call the cops," Angie babbles.

"Angie, you don't need to call the cops. We will be going to see Uncle Harry tomorrow. And its 'Bella'. I want to introduce my husband, Edward Cullen. No, he hasn't kidnaped me or made me marry him," I answer, rubbing my eyes. I've started to get a headache.

"Why don't we all sit down so Bella and I can explain what has happened and what we have learned," Edward sighs.

The next hour is spent explaining everything we have learned and discovered.

"Do you know who killed Sam? He was the best dog ever. Can you remember when he would pull us in the sled?" Angie says through tears.

"Angie, Bella has just told us that she is an important Italian mobster's granddaughter and daughter. People were going to kill her. And all you can think about is a dog?" Ben points out.

Angie shrugs her shoulders as she wipes her eyes.

"That time, we were arrested at school, and Anna told Alice she had put us in danger. What she meant was that they were all in danger?" Fred asks.

"It looks like that," I answer.

"So, what do we do know? Are we going to be safe?" Jake asks softly.

"You are probably going to be asked if Bella and Gaby are the same person. All you have to say is that Bella isn't Gaby. I know Anna and Luca will try to drag you into their mess, but don't let them draw you in," Edward counsels.

"But we sat with you for hours at the hospital; everyone knows that," Angie adds.

"All you have to say is that you thought Gaby was Alice's cousin. You were just helping Anna by sitting with her when she couldn't," Edward advises.

"There was a school reunion. Alice never went. There was a tribute to you and Mike Newton," Fred offers.

"Mike Newton died? What happened to him," I gasp.

"Mike broke his neck; he was found at the bottom of a set of ladders," Angie adds.

"That must have been a big funeral," I answer.

"It was. Everything in town was closed so people could attend," Fred replies. "Angie and I never went."

"What happens now?" Ben asks.

"Edward and I are going to maintain the story that we have both been in Italy for the past five years. If Anna, Luca, or Jasper wants to claim I'm Gaby, we can prove they're lying. They are not going to admit they lied to the cops and falsified the death of a girl," I continue to explain.

"There is something else you should know. I'm sorry to tell you, but Charlie's dead. His body was found in La Push. They said it was a fishing accident. I'm sorry," Angie worries.

"It's okay. The people responsible for his death are now dead. They had a car accident," I reassure.

"What a mafia car accident," Jake muttered. "We're not going to find a horse's head on our pillow, or anything, are we?"

"None of our family will hurt you," I promise him.

"Is there anything else you want to know? We will give you our numbers," Edward asks.

"I think we have all the information we need. We'll work it out between ourselves to keep the story straight," Ben answers.

"I have a bottle of wine from our vineyard for you to try. You're all welcome to go there at any time on vacation." I inform them.

"You own a vineyard! You're married? "Fred asks.

"Yes, Edward and I are married. His grandparents gave us the villa as a wedding gift, and my grandparents gave us the vineyard and winery," I answer.

"We'll take you up on that as a honeymoon destination," Ben clarifies.

"We'll see you again soon. Don't forget to call us if you need anything," I add.

There are hugs all around, but I can tell they are still concerned.

We walk back to the car, and drive to Aberdeen, Washington; the next stop enroute to Port Angeles, where we change the car.

"Are you ready for this, Bella? The goal for today is for Harry to investigate why Anna identified the body of a girl she claims was you, and who the girl is. We're going to put doubt in his mind as to how truthful Anna has been in her dealings when it comes to you. We must convince Harry, you're Bella. Get the bottle of wine; you don't have anything American with you, do you? Not even a lip gloss?"

"Edward, I'm going to be fine; you're panicking me. I can do this. I don't have anything in my purse or any clothing that isn't Italian. Come on, let's get this started."

I grab the bottle of wine; Edward opens the door of the station. Nothing inside had changed. Karen, as always, is sitting at her desk next to the phone and radio.

"Good morning, folks, how can I help you?" Karen, the station dispatcher, says with a wide smile.

"Hi Karen, is Uncle Harry in? I saw his cruiser outside," I ask, watching her pale.

"Who are you?" Karen gasps out.

"It's me, Bella, Karen, you okay? You look like you have seen a ghost," I joke.

I feel Edward tap my foot with his. I can tell he isn't happy with the joke. But that is how Karen and I have always been.

She picks up the phone and says into it, "Harry, I think you had better get out here. A young woman who looks like Bella Swan has just walked in. She's asking for Uncle Harry."

I plaster a big smile on my face. I have to put the best performance of my life so that he won't see through me.

We watch as Uncle Harry rushes out of his office.

"I don't know who you are, but I would like you both to come into my office," Harry demands.

"Uncle Harry, I'm sorry I never told you where I was... I knew you and dad would probably blow a gasket," I begin.

"Now stop this. I'll ask you once; who are you?" Harry asks. "You have two choices; start talking or be arrested."

"It's me, Bella; I haven't changed that much in the past five years. This is my husband, Edward Cullen," I answer.

I knew it would probably be hard to convince him, but not this hard.

"Bella Swan was killed in a car wreck and has been in Forks cemetery for the past five years," Harry growls.

"Surely, when you saw the body, you and dad knew it wasn't me in the casket," I whisper. "She's taken my identity?"

"Bella had a closed casket because of the burns," Harry replies.

"I was in a car wreck, but it never set on fire. I was with Lizzy, Edward's mom. We were out shopping, and the brakes failed in car we were riding in. The driver did his best to stop the car, but we ended up crashing. The scene was crazy, and I was separated from Lizzy. A doctor took me to another hospital. My leg was fractured. Edward came to the hospital looking for me. His mom died, and he took me with him to Italy. Neither of us realized that our Grandparents were friends. I met my Nonno and Nonna at Lizzy's funeral. I went to live with them. My Nonno had my leg fixed, and I had physiotherapy. Four years ago, I married Edward, and we have been living at the vineyard and winery we own in Italy." Nonno had given me a script to learn, and I had managed to recite it all.

"Anna was Bella's next of kin; she identified a body that was found in a car crash. She identified the body as Bella Swan. She said she recognized a ring and necklace. The dental records matched as well," Harry tells us.

"No, Edward's my next of kin. I never worn a ring until I got married," I huff. "How can she do that? It's impossible to match my dental records to someone else. Get my dental records and check with my teeth."

"All dental records were destroyed in a fire a few years ago," Harry informs.

"That's okay; Doctor Bull took pictures of your teeth when you had to get a filling replaced. Contact him, he has a practice in Manhattan, New York," Edward adds, opening his cell for the number.

Harry leaves the room with the number.

"This isn't going very well, Edward. I thought he wouldn't question me like this," I panic.

"It's okay; it's working out exactly as I imagined it would. All cops are suspicious," Edward answers, squeezing my hand.

Harry enters the room sitting behind his desk; he sits and looks at me.

"They are going to fax the records to me, and then we will get an x-ray at the local dental practice," Harry informs.

"Is Doctor Sinclair still the dentist here?" I ask.

"You have certainly done your homework," Harry answers.

"Okay, this is stupid. I'm Isabella Marie Swan. What can I tell you to convince you it's me," I sigh with tears in my eyes.

"I can't think of much you couldn't have researched," Harry replies.

"Okay, let me think. My mom was Italian, and she came to America with a false identity. Her mother's name was Renata Giovanni. Her boyfriend Paolo Conti was my father, but I like to call him my sperm donor. She went by the name Renee Higginbotham. Why anyone would think that name was an Italian name is beyond me. Nonno told me Marie had died years ago and never set up a trust fund. It was an arrangement that my sperm donor had with mom and dad," I answer. "I had a rag doll with a blue floppy hat and braids with little blue bows and a patchwork dress. I called her Agri because I couldn't say Agrifoglio, which is Italian for holly."

"That has to be something you could never research. You have almost convinced me. Let's get your x-ray," Harry replies.

~TTS~

"I'm sorry for doubting you, but this is something I would never have imagined happening," Harry offers.

"It's okay, Uncle Harry. I am just a little frustrated because I have no idea that for some reason, Anna wants people to think I am dead," I answer.

"It always seemed off that your grandparents had permission to take your mom's body to Italy, but left yours here," Harry replies.

"How did Anna know I was in a car crash? I hadn't spoken to her since I went to New York. Why didn't people question the way she said I died? There must be a motive for them to falsify my death. Do you think they had an insurance policy on me?" I gulp.

"I have to say it concerns me that there's an unknown girl buried in the Forks' cemetery. She has to be someone's daughter, sister, or even a mom," Edward gasps.

"Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I'm going to have to call Seattle, and we will have to resume her body to try to find out who she is," Harry groans as he rubs his face. "Where have you been all this time? I'll have to write it in a report."

"I've been in Italy with Edward and my family," I answer.

"You're Edward Cullen, the guy she was dating when she went to New York?" Harry asks curiously.

"Yes, sir, we have only ever been apart when I came back to the States to attend my brother's wedding. Bella had the stomach flu and couldn't fly," Edward answers.

"Bella, your mom, and Charlie never wanted you to get mixed up with these people. Let's cut the crap; they are members of the mafia, and so is your family, Edward." Harry sighs.

"I know you think like many people that my Nonno is a member of the mafia, but he isn't. He owns a vineyard and winery, and is a realtor. As for Edward's father, they own a software company. I imagine you even have a program made by his company on your computer," I groan.

"It's true, sir, my father has been arrested several times but never convicted. He's just a businessman," Edward exhales.

Harry nods; we can tell he still doesn't buy it.

"How did mom die?"

"Renee had pre-eclampsia and was on bed rest in the hospital. A new nurse discharged her by mistake. Your dad took her home and put her to bed, and you was playing on the bed. He went back on duty. At the time, he wasn't the chief. When Charlie got home from work, Renee was dead in the bed, and you were asleep lying next to her. The autopsy showed she had a seizure and suffocated."

I nod my head, as this is a little hard to hear.

"What happened to the nurse?"

"She was fired. I heard she got a position at a maternity unit in New York."

"Uncle Harry, can you remember her name?"

"She was a little red-haired Irish girl. Her name began with an M."

"Maggie?" Edward asks.

"Yes, that's right, Maggie," Harry replies. "She should have never been allowed to be a nurse again."

"Can you remember when Anna came to live in Forks when I was six?"

"Of course, I do. Your dad didn't believe it was a coincidence that Anna was a friend of your mom's. I mean, the chances of them moving next door to you in a small town like Forks are low."

"That's because my Nonna told us that mamma didn't know her or her brother Luca. Even Paolo didn't know about them either," I inform.

"I think these people need to be found, and they have many questions to answer," Harry announces.

"Uncle Harry, I'll give you our cell phone numbers. I want to go and see my dad. I have a lot to apologize for," I advise. "I've brought you a bottle of wine from our winery. I know you don't usually drink wine, but I thought you might make an exception."

"Bella sweetheart, I hate to tell you, but there was an accident just under five years ago. I still don't understand how it happened, but your dad was fishing, and he drowned. We buried him next to your grave. Well, the grave of the unknown girl. I'm sorry," Harry gently says.

"What, what do you mean drowned? He was too careful to have an accident like that. Where was he?" I demand with tears in my eyes.

"On First Beach," Harry answers.

"No, there is no way he would go to First Beach. I want you to investigate this Uncle Harry; someone murdered him," I continue as tears roll down my face.

"Bella, sweetheart calm down. I know you've had a lot to take in. Let's get something to eat. We can go to the Forks' cemetery to visit your dad's grave," Edward whispers. "Thank you for your time, Chief. This is a lot for her to digest. Do you mind seeing what you can find out about Anna and her brother? I don't trust them. I'm worried they might try to hurt Bella."

"I will. Take care, Bella, I'll be in touch," Harry says as he pulls me into a hug.

"I love you, Uncle Harry."

"I love you to kid," Harry replies.

~TTS~

We pick up a bouquet of flowers before we leave Port Angeles. We don't plan on staying long in Forks. There are too many people there I don't trust.

"We've done the job just as your Nonno hoped. We just must be seen going to the grave, then to appear to leave. But we are going to visit the bakery before we leave. I want them to tell us how they could kill a small child," Edward says.

I sit quietly, listening to the radio deep in thought about how I am going to handle Lozeno and Emma; the elderly couple who was supposed to kill me.

We walk into the cemetery, and as we suspected, the few people here stare, but no one approaches us. For that, I am grateful; l'm not in the mood to speak to anyone who just wants the latest gossip.

"Come on. We've been seen by enough people to start gossip. We have one more visit, and then you never have to come back here again."

The drive to the bakery doesn't take long when we drive the back way.

I open the door, and as usual, the bell rings. Edward turns the sign to 'closed' and turns the lock.

"Hello, what can I get you," Emma asks. "Isabella, is that you?

"Yes, it's me. Is Lozeno here, you both have a lot of explaining to do," I say as I draw my gun.

"Bella, why would you want to pull a gun on us? We love you like a daughter we always have," Lozeno chokes.

"Maybe because I have learned you came to Forks to kill me. How could you kill a small child? "I growl.

Edward says nothing; just leans on the counter, watching everything play out.

"Bella, we were told to kill you, but we came here to protect you instead," Lozeno answers.

"Explain," Edward demands.

"I'd been blackmailed into coming to kill you. Emma overheard Mia talking and realized who you were. I went to speak to Paolo. I used to be in the life, but after an accident, I could no longer work. He paid us to come and watch over you. Several people over the years came to kill you. I made sure they never touched a hair on your head. It was Emma's idea to have you work for us, that way we could keep you safe," Lozeno explains.

"We realized that Anna was sent here to gain your trust when Fred and you were arrested." We know there wasn't anything we could do once you become dependent on her. We were glad when Edward came into your life," Emma continues.

"We were worried when she convinced you to emancipate yourself from Charlie. We blamed Sue for that. I don't suppose you know, but she is Anna's cousin. Her job was to put a wedge between Charlie and you, which she managed to do," Lozeno clarifies.

I lower my gun, putting it back in my purse.

"Why didn't you go back to Italy once you didn't have to protect Bella anymore?" Edward asks.

"We have no family, and we love this small town. I'd always wanted to own a bakery since I was a young man, so this is my dream," Lozeno chuckles.

"Bella, before you go, I have to tell you that I killed the two men who murdered Charlie. They were foot soldiers back in the day when I had a crew. They came to dinner here after they did it. I sedated them. When they were out of it, I drove them to the lover's point where the kids go to make out. I took their clothes off, put them in the back seat and a pipe from the exhaust to the inside of the car."

"Nice. We must go before anyone see's us. I'm sure we will see you again," Edward says as he shakes Lozeno's hand.

"Bye and thank you," I add as I hug them both.

We have achieved everything here that Nonno wanted, so now we are going back to New York for the finale.

Carlisle

"Here's the mail. We've been invited to a meeting and dinner with your ex-father-in-law. The head of the Italian Cartel and another member will be attending as well,"" Esme informs me.

"You don't get to open my mail. Esme, god damn it woman, when are you ever going to learn that you're my wife now, and not my PA anymore; you don't get to know my business. I'll attend the meeting. I'd hoped for an invitation to join the Cartel when I married Lizzy, but it never happened," I muse.

"Carlisle, you are too sick to attend this meeting and dinner," Esme insists. "Just let Jasper go and deal with it. He has been dealing with everything for months. I heard that Don Mancini has a granddaughter in the states that he has just found. She will be perfect for Jasper; that way, we will have achieved something you could never do."

"Esme, I'm the boss of this family, and you have been overstepping your authority for some time now. You will do as you're told," I say as I lift my hand.

"Don't you fucking touch my mom, I will kill you, old man," Jasper snarls.

"You will have respect for me. Just because I've been ill doesn't mean that I can't run this family," I yell. "You can't run this family; you are not pure Italian. I still don't believe my boys were killed, when that plane blew up over the Atlantic."

"You know they were. Even Marcus is gone. You have none of your men left. You have no one. I have men following me. You will have to learn to accept that you are no longer the big scary Carlisle Cullen - mob boss of the Cullen family. It's the Whitlock family now. I will be attending the meeting with the Italian Cartel scum. They don't come to my patch and demand a meeting," Jasper roars.

As he punches me in the face, knocking me back onto the bed. I grab my stomach as another agonizing pain shoots through it.

Esme just looks at me as she turns around, walking away from me with our son. She has just what she's always wanted for herself and her children; Jasper in his rightful place, not living in the shadows of Edward and Emmett.
