Daisy: Of course they'll forgive you, what are they gonna do, stop reading? What's that gonna solve?
Tony: yeah, she's got a point, its a lose-lose situation for you guys..
Daisy: I mean its Win, win , lose, lose .. The readers could wait patiently or send encouragement, get good chapters delivered more frequently.
Tony: Right, Win, Win.
Daisy: or, stop reading, complain...
Tony: lose, lose. its an easy decision.
Bucky: Uh, Who left you two alone?
A crash in the hallway alerted them to trouble, everyone was on their feet when a small boy ran into the room, pausing as all eyes landed on him. His cheeks were flushed from running, his chest rising and falling quickly as he tried to regain his breath. Everyone waited, their chairs being pushed back roughly had caused some unpleasant squeals as the heavy wood dragged against the floor, no more than two had fallen at the sudden movement, both Bucky and Steve stood with their seats on the floor.
The boy bowed to the king and princess before speaking, His breathing still heavy. He said very little in a language daisy didnt speak but his words weighed heavy.
Once he was finished speaking Tchella said something in return and gave the boy a slight nod, he bowed once more as tchella straightened himself, and left the room as all eyes shifted to the king.
"They are here"
Daisy clenched her fists, flexing her fingers as the words washed over her. She glanced at Bucky whose hand had gripped hers tightly, his eyes had landed on the table where their discarded breakfast remained. When she gave his hand a squeeze he returned the gesture before meeting her eye with a grave expression.
"Hey," Bucky says, slowing her steps.
The team had quickly regained their composure after recieving the news, Steve drew them all close and gave one of his famous captain america speeches, it was a good one.
"the earth has lost its best defender, but our jobs arent done, we're here to fight. This is a battle that will test our strength, get in get out, do whater you have to do to protect yourself, we dont trade lives, we need to remember that now more than ever. We stop Thanos together but we arent losing anyone else" he spoke calmly but left no room for argument before sending them all on their way. Daisy tried to send everyone a confidant smile before following shui and wanda out of the room. she had been halfway down the hall when bucky called to her.
Daisy paused as he watched her, jogging to catch up.
"arent you supposed to be somewhere?" she asked in a teasing tone. He smiled, slowing to a stop and taking her hands in his as he turned her to face him fully. She squinted at him as he bit the inside of his lip.
"I don't need to tell you to be careful," he started. Daisy didn't know whether to sigh and roll her eyes or smile and thank him, feeling both glad for his concern and annoyed at his warning. He chuckled lightly, sensing her reaction, and squeezed her hands tighter.
"That's not what I'm saying doll," he told her, she glared at him playfully none the less. "You know what I'm talking about I'm just, it's," he sighed, unable to find the right words, daisy smiled, pushing onto her toes and capturing his lips with her own, he reacted quickly, pulling her close but daisy ducked her head back before she lost her sense, smiling at the brunette looking down at her lovingly.
"I love you too," she said simply as if it was the easiest thing in the word to say. It rolled off her tongue easily and honestly. The way Buckys face melted, a grin spreading from cheek to cheek before he leaned down to capture her lips again made her heart warm and stomach flutter. The reality of their situation broke their perfect bubble as the building rocked beneath them, a horn blowing nearby sped their hearts, both swallowing hard as they stared in the direction of the sound.
They had each gripped the other's hands tighter at the movement, not wanting to let go. Bucky turned back to her first, caught the fear flash across her face, he's own brow creasing in worry he grabbed her chin and pulled her face to him, smiling warmly.
"Time to go," he told her softly. "I love you" his words were both soft and strong at the same time, confidant and full of truth. Her heart fluttered once more and then he was moving, his hand leaving hers only when his arm wouldn't stretch any further. She knew she was needed, knew she was meant to be with Wanda already, guarding her and the stone but she couldn't tear her eyes from buckys retreating form as he started to jog down the long corridor.
She wanted to grab him, pull him as close as she could and bury her head into his neck. Wrap her arms around him and hold tight, hold him to her and never let go, she swallowed.
"Hey" she called to him before he reached the corner. He turned to her, concern and curiosity painted on his face. "No heroes" he smiled, lip quirking to the side.
"I promise " he replied, then he was gone, disappearing around the corner and out of sight. She took a breath, steeled herself and moved towards shuris workshop where she and Wanda waited.
Daisy ran to the room, pushing in the doors carefully so as to not spook the others. Wanda stood over vision, speaking quietly as he instructed her on what to do, Shuri sat at the computer, video feed from the field playing from different angles. Daisy was drawn towards it.
"They have landed outside of the border." Shuri said as Daisy approached. "five ships, no one has emerged yet" daisy nodded absently, scanning the area for a familiar faces, she was curious about the ships but needed to see everyone first, something pulling her to ensure they were safe, all in their planned place where they were about to face an unknown threat- she turned away, moving over to where Wanda stood. Shuri followed moments later holding an odd-looking device. She smiled kindly to vision before affixing it to his head.
"I regret not getting to know you more," vision started in his charmingly casual tone, it took daisy a moment to realize he was now looking at her. "I've heard many good things Miss Johnson" he continued, shifting slightly. Daisy smiled sadly her hands moving to grab his before hesitating, unsure in how to reply, Wanda smiled her way.
"Perhaps Shuri And Tony will find a way to-"
"Perhaps" he smiled, cutting off her sentence before she could decide what she was even going to say. He lifted a hand to tell Shuri he was ready. She turned on the device and daisy moved away, watching the device get to work removing the stone from the center of his forehead. Wanda took hold of his hand, smiling down at him.
Daisy was slightly hypnotized by the movements, laser-like lights dipping and curving around the delicate stone. It was five long minutes before she could turn away, Shuri had moved to stand over vision, using the device manually, her movements precise and smooth. Daisy felt anxious, vision was sure Wanda could destroy the stone, removing it from Thanos's grip and removing part of the threat, daisy watched her, calm confidence radiating from The magical brunette. Daisy felt a swell of pride at that, glad to see the brunette so strong, at that moment she was glad for knowing her, being close to such a strong, confident and powerful woman with a rocky past. One who had prospered despite her shortcomings, it was beyond inspiring.
Daisy turned away, moving towards the window, the hall was guarded, security cameras and monitors set up to alert them to movements. The window was the height of the wall, stretching to the ceiling and across half the length of the room, broken up by thin beams here and there. She took several steps over to them, hesitant to see what was happening outside but unable to resist the urge to look. Her comms were connected to the others like in any other mission except that hers and Wandas were only triggered if they were called in directly, until they hit the ground where the rest of the army stood, they were left out of the immediate commotion which meant they had no idea what was going on outside.
Daisy's eyes widened at the size of the army laid out before her on the field, she was motionless at the sight, swallowing hard as she watched the movements of soldiers. Monsters, massive in size, tore through the walls. Several dropped motionless partway through the shield but soon the beasts were getting through and tearing across the field at an alarming speed. Daisy caught sight of shield going up before the monsters reached the rows of soldiers, two figures running ahead on the now moving army took on the first of the beasts and Daisy decided against guessing who those people may be, her hand absently moving to clutch at loose strands of hair. Soon the monsters and soldiers collided and daisy felt a cold wave of sorrow at the sight of the monsters tossing them aside with ease.
She found herself racking her brain, trying to come up with a memory of fighting such a large force, even a fraction of the army set out in front of her. She had faced strong foes but never a force like this. Her throat was dry as this thought hit her, had she fought off more than three men at once, She couldnt remember.
"What do you want," Shuri asked, gaining Daisys Attention and bringing her back to the present. "I'm in the middle of something." Daisy clicked her comms to the call.
"On my signal, open northwest section 17" T'challa ordered his sister, his tone cool yet firm.
"requesting confirmation Brother" Shuri replied, a confused frown shadowing her features. "You said open the barrier?"
"On my signal" the King replied calmly. Shuri had a second to think, pulling back from her motions towards the stone and moving towards the computers.
Moments later he gave the order and Shuri hit the necessary keys to open the fence. Daisy turned her attention back to the window, worrying that strand of hair as she watched the bests flood in.
"How much longer Shuri?" T'challa said after another minute.
"I've barely begun brother" Shuri replied as she resumed her position above the stone.
"you might want to pick up the pace" T'challa replied. Daisy turned back to the girl in time to see her amused smile and a slight shake of the head as she started working once more. Daisys eyes drifted back to the window and the commotion on the field below, her hope dwindling rapidly at the sight.
She saw a glint of light on a familiar red and gold suit, her heart skipped as her mind flashed to Tony, relief, and joy washing over her before her memory caught up to her, it was the hulk buster suit, Bruce, fighting off a hoard of beasts. He was toppled over but quickly regained his ground, fighting back with some effort
She felt fidgety, tapping her fingers against her arms as she watched, waited. Behind her she heard a sudden movement, she spun in time to see Wanda get hit, thrown across the room into one of the big windows that shattered on impact. Shuri had pulled her weapon out but was quickly knocked back. Daisy moved, arms raised to strike when she was hit from the side, crashing to the ground. A metallic crash rang in her ears and there a whoosh to her side, wafting her hair into her face before she could regain her ground. What had just happened? She looked from the left to the right, pushing to her feet.
Shuri lay in a heap to her right but Wanda was nowhere to be seen. She ran to the younger girl, checking her pulse. She roused at the contact, groaning in pain. The girl sat up quickly, scanning the room as daisy had before her eyes landed on the window, the shattered shards of glass hanging precariously here and there, Daisy's heart jumped in her chest.
"Are you okay?" She asked the princess, getting back to her feet as she spoke. Shuri nodded and waved her forward. Daisy looked over the edge, a sinking in her stomach growing at the site below, she jumped out the window, landing close by her friend who, thankfully, stirred as she landed. Daisy crouched by her side, Wanda had a red mark on her head that would surely bruise but looked otherwise uninjured.
"I'm fine" she assured Daisy's worried hovering. "I broke my fall I'm just," she huffed "winded" daisy nodded, looking her over again before helping her to her feet. She looked around, eyes turning upwards to the broken window. "Where's-"
"Shuris fine but visions gone" Daisy replied quickly, scanning the area as she spoke. Wanda cursed while daisy continued to mull over how they had been taken down so fast. Wanda put a hand to Her ear, checking that her comm hadn't fallen out.
"Visions gone" she said after activating her comms, there was hesitation on the line before someone spoke.
"It had to be done, now thanos can't-"
"No" Wanda pushed on, cutting Natasha off, "no we were, " distracted, beaten? Daisy wondered as the brunette searched for the right word. "We were attacked, I think they have him" daisy shuddered at the thought, she'd already failed her job.
"Is everyone okay?" Steve asked between breaths.
"We're fine, Daisy's with me, we're heading to the field, shuris still upstairs"
"I'll ask her to search the field for vision," Daisy said, switching her comms to speak to the young genius.
"Shuri?" She said, gaining said girls' attention. She gave her the instructions as Wanda ended her conversation with Steve, she turned to her in question but the witch just gestured for her to follow her path as she moved towards the source of the most noise. Their pace quickened and soon they were running full speed into battle, a bolt of lightning caught their attention in the distance, followed by a powerful blue blast of static that made the hair on their arms stand on edge. Their steps faltered as they paused to marvel at the sight.
"Is thor here?" Wanda asked the team, hope in her voice.
"He is, and he brought friends," Steve informed them, his own voice one of amazement and relief.
An inkling of hope lifted Daisys spirits slightly, Wanda, it seemed, felt the same as the girls shared a look before taking off in the direction of the battlefield. The first beast they faced almost froze both girls in the steps, With six limbs it resembled a mutated hell hound with a snout housing two rows of saliva covered, jagged teeth. Daisy swallowed hard at the thought of those things getting ahold of her, hands clenching nervously. Everything she had faced up to this point was relatively humanoid in appearance but this was, this was Cleary a monster.
One beast had broken from its pack, running at them with awkward movements due to its extra limbs, the smell hit them before the creature did, an off sewer like scent that burned their noses. They refrained from recoiling in disgust, daisy pulled out her gun though she was doubting its effectiveness against whatever this thing was, she took aim and fired as she moved. As expected the creature barely flinched, speeding up. Wanda was quick enough to deflect its claws when it swiped at them and daisy quickly holstered her weapon realizing that she was going to have to rely on her powers when fighting these things.
They worked together to deflect blows, fighting off as many of the massive creatures as quick as they could, the combination of Daisy's quakes and Wanda's power made the task slightly easier though it didn't take long for the use to start wearing on them. All the hand to hand combat training they had didn't prepare them for this, you couldn't trade blows with these creatures, daisy could hardly stay alive when in close quarters, she found herself thanking the gods for her powers whenever she was close to the beasts. She didn't let herself think of how her team was faring against them.
"Guys I Found Vision, he is in the forest by the palace" Sam Said, alerting everyone. "I'm Heading there n-" He was cut off abruptly leaving a pause of silence. Wanda's movements paused, a beast held above the ground in her red glow, daisy Quaked it.
"SOMEBODY GET TO VISION!" Steve shouted, clearly busy by his hurried tone.
"I got him" Bruce replied quickly, metal whirring behind him.
"On my way" Wanda added shortly.
Daisy Froze. The ground shifted beneath her feet, a feeling of wrongness snaking up her arms. She pulled them back on instinct, holding them slightly in front of her she scanned them with her eyes, watched as they shook uncontrollably her gauntlets rattling. Daisy tried to clench her fists and take a breath but a shout to her left had her lurching to the side, curling to land in a roll from her shoulder. Behind her she saw a blur of red fog, wanda stood on the only piece of solid ground for several meters, the ground around her gauged out by- she turned her eyes to the left and caught sight of several large machines tearing across the field. Like giant sawblades cutting through the ground like a freshly sharpened knife through flesh.
As they grew further away from her location the shaking lessened, Daisy turned back to her friend in time to catch her locked in battle with a blue alien. She cursed herself for getting distracted and leaped into the fight.
Natasha beat her to the point, taking the attention away from wanda, Okyo was close behind. Daisy had a moment to take a breath, relieved to see Natasha in one piece and deeming the situation handled she spun in the opposite direction where a hoard of beasts had circled several of T'challa's soldiers, she ran forward to lend them a hand, not letting herself think of her shaking arms before pushing two back with a quake. She gave the soldiers an opening to retake the fight and moved to the next group. A beast caught her off guard and she tumbled to the ground in its slimy grip, bashing her head against the ground painfully but managing to use all her strength to beat it off of her. She pulled out her gun with great difficulty but it pinned her arm to her side, she used her forearm to hold it back from her face, its teeth biting the air in front of her. Daisy fired her weapon into its side, wounding it enough to get an opening, when it pulled back she pulled the gun close and fired two rounds into its head, barely moving in time to avoid its body crushing her. It took an embarrassing amount of time to climb out from beneath it.
Once she was on her feet another wave of shakes stopped her from quaking a monster headed her way, she ducked out of its path dizzily escaping with a minor gash in her leg where it had swung at he before engaging another soldier in battle. She clenched her teeth, unable to stop the shaking she clutched her hands to her chest, looking for a place to take a breath a break in the fighting or a ditch. Whipping her head around she spotted the ditched wanda had been fighting in and ran for it, relieved to have found an apparent break as she made it to the ditch without crossing paths with any of the beasts.
She slid through the dirt and pressed her back against the hard rocky wall behind her, after taking two deep breaths she turned her attention to her arms, pulling them in front of her and looking them up and down. The shaking was playing with her nerves, causing a shiver to run up her spine, that or it wasn't just her arms shaking. She tried to shake it off, taking another breath, she closed her eyes in an attempt to calm herself, feeling as if she were in way over her head, part of her itching to call for backup. She sighed reluctantly.
"Quake requesting status check," Daisy said, She felt weak checking on everyone's safety but she needed to know the situation before pulling anyone away. The noise around her continued, guns firing and gears churning. She heard screams of pain and roars from the creatures, making her cringe and push further back into the dirt wall. There was no response from her team, she swallowed.
"Repeat, Quake Requesting Status check" There was no click or mumble on the comms, with furrowed brows Daisy reached up to her comms, her heart sank when she realized her problem. "Shit, shit shit" Daisy cursed, looking around desperately but knowing it was no use, her comm was gone and so was her connection to her team.
With a renewed resolve Daisy straightened and climbed back onto the field in search of her team.
The monsters covered the field, streaming across the grassy land in packs, broken up only by groups of soldiers, fighting their way through the beasts in teams.
Her stomach rolled, eyes searching for someone, anyone she knew, any signs of her team. Left to the right she scanned the terrain Mumbling under her breath.
"C'mon, C'mon, C'mon" Her hand absently went to her ear once again confirming that her earpiece was gone, with another curse and one last look around she replayed her last communication in her mind. Vison, they were heading to vision, he was... She looked back on forth till she spotted the row of trees in the distance, the forest outside the Palace. She moved to run but her leg screamed at her reminding her of the gash across her thigh, Hair flew in her face from where it had broken free from her ponytail, blood streamed down her leg but the material had reformed over the wound, wrapping it tightly. Still, her lungs felt like they were on fire from the smell and the dust surrounding the area.
She swallowed hard and pressed a hand to her leg, wincing at the touch she pulled back, looking to her shaking arms with regret she took one step, two, three. She pushed into a run until she had enough strength to quake the ground beneath her, ignoring everything that happened around her she moved towards the trees, pushing off the ground and into the air.
She misjudged the distance and came down to early, crossing paths with a rabid beast, it leaped forward, snatching her from the air they crashed together in a heap on the ground, she barely had a second to think as the beast slashed at her, A yellow glow blurred her Vision, and the beasts too. She pushed her hand up beneath it, quaking the creature up and off of her, she didnt have time to fight it, she had to find her team.
The glow shrank into the forest and Daisy's eyes lit up, stumbling forward she ran for the treeline, pushing another quake beneath her she leaped forward, rethinking her actions when she looked to the trees below and thought of how she would land without hitting one. Cold knots in her stomach weighed her down she hadn't heard anything from her team in far to long and she didn't know what had caused that glow. She crashed through the trees trying to protect her face and slow her landing at the same time. The branched whipped at her, breaking her focus.
She tumbled, landing in a painful roll that had her crashing into a heap. Her ribs burned, her head ached and her body didn't want to respond but she could hear voices, see a faint blue glow to her left. She pushed to her feet, registering the blurry outline of Thor, or three outlines of him, she blinked, trying to focus the image. He was towering over a large man on his knees, Daisy could only see his back but Thor seemed to have him under control, one hand on the handle of his weapon the other on the man's head. She stumbled forward, intending to help, she blinked to clear her vision and saw the man raise a hand, a golden glove shone with colored gems over his knuckles. In a second a scream tore from her throat before she could even register why, Thor made a noise and a loud, final Snap rang in her ears as the world was blacked out in a blinding white light.
Everything was silent, calm. Then the world came crashing back to reality, Daisy opened her eyes and the man was gone. Thor stood where he had a moment ago with a large ax at his feet, its blade slick with purple liquid. he was silent, breathing heavy and looking confused, daisy furrowed her brow, watching him. Daisy was back on the ground, trying to push to her knees as she watched the god, thinking of how different he looked now than he had just the week before. Not only was he battle-worn but his appearance had changed a lot too. A scar over his now brown eye, hair cut short, she wondered just what he had been through this past week.
Footsteps behind her paused her weak movements, turning her head to find Steve.
"Where'd he go?" The blonde asked, Clutching his side with one hand. Daisys head throbbed as she finally git to her knees, watching the exchange between Steve and Thor.
Steve who looked tired, a gash across his forehead paired with a bruised and bloody lip, uniform torn. Daisy wondered what had happened to his shield, not seeing it on him as it usually was, she pressed a hand to her throbbing skull, wondering how hard she had hit the ground, if she had hit her head.
"Thor, Where'd he go?" Steve repeated, slightly more urgently. Daisy returned her focus to him, Staring at thor who looked sort of lost now.
"Steve?" Another Voice chimed in, drawing each of their attention. Bucky stepped into the clearing and Daisys Heart jumped with relief. he was still seeing double but from what she could tell he looked relatively unharmed, his hair mused and a cut across his cheek but otherwise fine. She was thanking the gods for his safety, her heartwarming as she found the strength to stumble to her feet, moving towards him on reflex before her brain finally started to pay attention.
His steps faltered suddenly, he stood several feet away, One arm raised to his side, his attention focused on that limb. He hadn't seen her there, she realized. His tone had been cautious, concerned, Daisy remembered, Taking another step. She needed to blink, to refocus, make sense of what was happening but she couldnt close her eyes.
Buckys arm seemed to fade before them, turning to dust, his eyes turned to them as he took another step and Daisys blood froze in her veins, arms going numb and eyes blurring with tears. Fear filled Buckys eyes as he stepped forward, his foot never connecting with the ground, his body disintegrating beneath him, he was gone before he hit the ground, a pile of dust in his place.
Painful shots of ice ran up and down her arms, her heart froze in her chest. Daisy felt her jaw clench and release, clench and release as she stared at the spot where bucky had stood seconds ago. Where he had spoken and looked at them, The spot where steve now knelt in disbelief and confusion, his hand connecting with the ash-covered grass that was all that remained of Bucky- of James- of-
The world dimmed around her, casting dark shadows over everything she could see, there was a mumble of voices nearby, concern lacing each of their words but she couldnt make out what they were saying, she didn't care to try and listen. She felt everything and nothing at all as Hot tears streamed down her face, but she could do nothing to stop it as a freezing numbness settled over her Dragging her down until she was slumped in an absent heap on the grass.
"Daisy?" She hears someone nearby call her, her arms hurt, her chest hurt. Steve was slumped across from her, his image too blurry to make out his expression but he remained where- darkness, Finally, she closed her eyes, blinking back to reality she turned her head to the heavens, the sky was dim above her, the forest dark and cold. Her chest ached terribly and she felt something inside her burn, tearing at her insides, trying to claw its way out. Time had seemed to slow around her before but now it came crashing back, sounds and images returning to their normal, if dulled, volume.
"Daisy, hey, Daisy listen to me" It was Natasha, Crouched in front of her. "There you are," She said when Daisy registered her presence. She was speaking in a clear tone, daisy realized, trying to calm her down perhaps. Daisy swallowed, her throat dry.
"You need to breathe you're making the trees shake," Natasha told her, hands reasting softly against daisys hair, covering her ears. Daisy snapped her attention to her surroundings and blinked, taking in the way the leaves fell from the trees, She thought her vision was just foggy still. She wondered why this didn't worry her.
"Everythings going to be-" The redhead cut herself off, thinking better of her words. "We're gonna get through this" She said instead.
Daisy didn't know how to reply, her voice didn't want to work but as she thought about speaking she felt herself crumble, fresh tears streaking down her face as a white-hot ache ripped through her, she curled in on herself as a violent grief crashed through her chest.
"Oh god" She cried, the sound raw and broken as it tore from her throat, she felt the earth shake now, heard the trees creak against the weight of her pain. And then, Daisy felt numb, inside and out, drained yet bursting at the seems she didn't know what she was meant to be doing, Didn't know what she was going to do, She didn't feel any worry though as she closed her eyes and let the darkness take her. She fell into a heavy sleep Dreaming of Bucky and the life they could have, should have had.
She was in pain. That was the first thing she registered when she woke, Pain. Her eyes were like weight feeling as if they had been glued shut, she almost panicked when they wouldnt open, scrunching them repeatedly till her eyelids cooperated.
The room was dim but the light still hut, causing her to flinch as she tried to get her bearings. The room was unfammiliar, dark in decoration as well as lĂghting as someone turned the brightness down, allowing her to focus slightly better. Footsteps approached her bed, soft pats barely making a sound as the figure approached. It wasnt until she register it was Natasha' after the redhead slid herself into a sitting position on the side of daisys bed, that she noticed the other people in the room. Daisy swallowed, looking away from the few semi familiar silhouettes and sitting up slowly.
"What happened?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper "did I blackout?"
"I tranked you" Natasha admitted softly, Watching Daisy closely for her reaction. She blinked twice, looking from the redhead to the second figure approaching from the other side of the room, bruce, she noticed as the small amount of light caught on his glasses, before staring down at her plastered hands.
"What did I do?" Daisy Asked, hesitantly turning back to them, Natasha was quick to move close, shuffling closer to her on her bed and pulling daisy close.
"Nothing, You didn't hurt anyone okay" Natasha reassured her. "You were Hurting, losing control so I stepped in, Its not your fault." Her word clicked a switch in daisys mind and she gasped, Natasha pulled her closer, anticipating her reaction.
"The nightmare, with the crater" She sucked in a painful breath. Eyes to blurred to notice the movement in the room, to see how Steve had jumped to his feet at her gasp, how bruce had flinched or how Shuri slipped to the edge of he seat.
"It didn't happen," Natasha said shaking her head, but daisy was still thinking.
"But it, that's what my nightmare was warning me about, oh god what if I could have stopped it?!" daisy cried. Natasha pulled back, grasping daisy by her shoulders.
"No, do not do that" She told her firmly but daisy couldnt stop the flow of tears, replaying the way Bucky had looked at her, the way he had faded and then disappeared. "You told me everything and i didnt make the connection, we didnt have all the facts" Natasha told her. "But we had some, because you told me about your nightmare we stopped another incident from happening, you didnt lose control."
Daisy swallowed, wanting to feel glad, relieved, but her heart felt like a chunk of led in her chest. She took a breath, trying to understand why she didnt feel better when that cold numbness spread throughout her body. She froze.
"Oh god bucky" She cried, curling in on herself. her hand shot to her moth to muffle her sobs as Natasha held her.
The rest of the team retook their seat, unsure what to do, what their next move was, how they were supposed to help their friend who was suffering across from them, they needed to do something, to distract themselves from the own pain they felt.
She pulled back after a while, eyes burning and throat raw she looked around and a feeling of guilt settled over her. In a hoarse voice she asked.
"He's not the only one, is he?" She asked.
The grave look Natasha gave her made her want to cry again, she could only make out three other silhouettes in the room and she started dreading watever answer the red head had for her.
Just how much did they lose?
authers note: sorry this ones shorter than usual' i was hoping for a burst of inspiration to improve this chapter without adding more scenes but time kind of dragged on so i figured you all deserved an update! im lacking in motivation so please review with thoughts and suggestions, theories of whats next... i do still have plans for this story but hearing other peoples thoughts certainly helps me write!
