Before Hermione knew it, it was September first, the day they were due to return to Hogwarts. Ginny hadn't told anyone what Hermione had said to her, for which Hermione was grateful.
Mrs. Weasley woke them up at ten that morning, considering they could all simply eat breakfast, then disapporate to Kings Cross. Ginny had turned seventeen that summer and taken her apparition test straight away. On the afternoon of her birthday.
The Weasley's and Harry had all told Hermione how proud they were of her for becoming Head girl and Hermione didn't confide her plans to them either. She just smiled and thanked them.
After a nice hot bacon sandwich each, they all, along with Mrs. Weasley, disapporated and appeared instantly on platform nine and three quarters. Once you could apporate, you didn't have to lean on the barrier; you could just apporate straight onto the platform.
The night before, Fred and George had left again, back to their little flat over their joke shop in Diagon Alley. As a nice touch, they had given Hermione a free day dreaming charm; encase the flashbacks got too strong for her to take, so she could just enter into that.
They boarded the Hogwarts Express at five to eleven. Hermione instantly set off towards the Head's compartment, hoping against hope that Dumbledore would be there, so she could tell him that she couldn't take this role, even though it was really going to hurt her, as it was something she'd always wanted to do.
When she reached the compartment however, it was empty. Hermione entered through the door with the brass for Head's only sign on it and sat down by the window on the leather seat.
Eventually, the door opened and Dumbledore entered.
"Aah, good morning Miss. Granger. Our Head boy not here yet?"
"No Sir," Hermione replied.
"Sir, before he comes, may I have a quick word, please?"
Dumbledore suddenly looked into Hermione's face. Hermione felt uncomfortable. She had the horrible feeling that Dumbledore was reading her mind, he'd find out what she wanted to say.
"Miss. Granger," he said and his voice was gentle. "I wanted to talk to you anyway at some point or other."
He quietly slid the door shut and sat down across from her. It suddenly occurred to Hermione that she'd never seen him on the Hogwarts Express before now, so why this year?"
"Miss. Granger," he started again. "I know what happened to you this summer and I want you to know that I will be here for you if there is anything I can do. Do you understand?"
Hermione looked into her Headmasters kind eyes and instantly trusted him.
"Yes, Sir," she answered quietly. "Thank you."
"If there is anything I can do to help you this year Miss. Granger, please do not hesitate to ask, ok?"
"I will, thank you, Sir."
Hermione really wanted to say her part, but she wasn't sure how Dumbledore would take it. Before she could say anything however, Dumbledore's next words stopped her dead.
"Miss. Granger, I wanted you to know that I chose you as Head girl, after I knew what had happened. I thought it would be ideal for you and would help you back onto your feet, in more ways than one."
"More ways than one, Sir?" Hermione queried, but before Dumbledore could answer, the door slid open and the Head boy appeared.
Hermione felt as if all the air had been knocked out of her lungs. Here, was the man she was truly in love with, but didn't have a chance in hell. He entered quietly and sat down next to Hermione.
"Hello, Granger," he said quietly.
Hermione stared at him. For him, that'd been a very nice greeting."
"Hello," she replied, quietly. She didn't think she could even say his name. Merlin she was in love with him, she didn't even know when, where or why, all she knew was, that she was!
Dumbledore was smiling and there was a twinkle behind his glasses. He turned to face the two Heads.
"I think you pretty much know your instructions anyway," he smiled at them. "The Prefects will be in here soon, ask them to walk the corridors and to report to you if there is any trouble. After the sorting and feast, I will show you to your private Quarters. See you at Hogwarts."
They both nodded and Dumbledore left.
Hermione just sat there, gazing into the eyes of the Head boy. Her heart was hammering like crazy; she didn't even know what to say to him! He'd lost his parents in the final battle at the end of last year, just as Harry had killed Voldemort. Harry had hardly been at Hogwarts during their sixth year, as he'd been out looking for Horcruxes.
Could there be a possibility she may have a chance with him, now they'd be together a lot? Hermione didn't understand this! She feared every man since Andy's attack, or so she thought. Almost every other man.
There was just something about this one, she instantly trusted and the irony of this was not lost on her what so ever. It was just, when she was looking into his eyes, with their gorgeous colour; it was almost as if they calmed her fears right down, as if she could look into them forever.
Further up the train, Harry, Ron, Ginny and Lavender were sitting talking. Ron and Ginny, who had replaced Hermione as Prefect, knew they would have to leave soon to go and see the Heads.
"Wonder who the Head boy is?" Harry wondered aloud.
"No idea mate," said Ron, putting his feet up on the seat across from him. "We'll be able to tell you when we come back."
"It better be someone who'll be good to Hermione!" Harry snarled. "Especially given this summer!" Ginny nodded fervently.
"What happened this summer?" Lavender asked. All three of them looked at her.
"I don't think we can tell you," said Ginny quietly. Suffice it to say, it wasn't nice at all! Please, don't ask Hermione though, whatever you do!"
Lavender nodded. She had matured a lot over the last year, which was one of the reasons Ron had fallen for her. She was no longer a gossip, but a very nice, caring young woman.
"I won't," said Lavender quietly. "Doesn't sound like I really want to know."
Ron and Ginny nodded. "You don't," they said together.
A few minutes later, Ginny and Ron left for the Head's compartment. There, they met the Prefects from the other houses. They instantly noticed that Markus Flint had replaced Draco Malfoy, alongside Pansy Parkinson as a Slytherin Prefect. Ron gave Ginny a questioning look, to which she nodded.
Sure enough, when they entered the Head's compartment, having been told to enter by Hermione, they saw Draco Malfoy sitting beside Hermione. They were sharing a seat! Ron raised his eye brows, but Ginny nudged him in the ribs. Ron took a seat across from Draco, Ginny across from Hermione.
The other prefects stood by the doorway.
"You know what to do," said Hermione quietly, keeping her eyes fixed into Draco's silver grey ones. Bloody hell that made her feel so calm, but why!
"Walk the corridors and if you see anything out of line, report back to us, also, after the sorting and feast, help the first years to their rooms, ok?"
The Prefects nodded and left.
"Draco Malfoy!" Burst out Ron angrily, as soon as they were back in their compartment. "Draco Malfoy's Head boy, he's hardly going to respect what happened, now is he?""
"If he so much as lays a finger on her," snarled Harry, "I swear to Merlin he'll follow his parents!"
Ginny looked away and smiled out of the window.
"What?" Said Harry and Ron together.
"Nothing," said Ginny quietly.
She was thinking of how Hermione had constantly been looking into Draco's eyes and how Ginny could have sworn they were holding warmth as they looked back at Hermione. She remembered the little slip of paper from Andria and her smile widened. Could it be? Was it possible? She guessed they'd just have to wait and see.
All the way through the journey, Hermione could not look away from Draco Malfoy's silver grey eyes. She didn't understand her feelings towards him since the end of last year, after the battle and both his parents had been killed. Were they just because of what had happened? Or had they been in her heart for a long time and she was just unable to admit them? Hermione wasn't sure, although she did sure know they were there now! Strong and undeniable. She remembered what Andria had said about how one day; there would hopefully be a man she'd be able to trust, who could calm her just with a look. Was she looking at him now? But Draco didn't even know what had happened to her that summer. But did he? Hermione sincerely hope not, at least, most of her did. There was a little part, she couldn't lie, and that did want him to know.
Draco was looking right back at her, she would swear it and there did seem to be warmth in his eyes, but she could easily be kidding herself and she knew it. This was why she was trying not to think about it too much, but Merlin it was hard!
Why wasn't she afraid of him? Why was she able to look into his silver grey eyes, be close to him and yet feel no fear? She almost feared Harry and Ron after what had happened to her and they'd never hurt her in any way! Yet, here she was, able to look into Draco Malfoy's eyes and feel no fear at all, even though he'd never stopped doing all he could to hurt her in any way possible!
Hermione didn't understand it, but she didn't half like it! After a few moments of hesitant silence, she suddenly found herself holding out her hand to Draco! Draco looked up, and then gently took it! Hermione actually felt herself shiver. His grip was gentle, tender. Why?
She'd intended it to be just a shake, but actually they didn't release hands until the train pulled up at Hogsmeade Station.
The knock on the door of their compartment startled Ginny. Harry, Ron and Lavender glanced at her; she had clearly been miles away. She straightened up as the door opened and Dumbledore stuck his head round the door.
"Hello, Professor," they all said in surprise. None of them had seen him on the Hogwarts Express before.
Dumbledore looked at them; there was no twinkle in his eyes.
"Hello, all. Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley and Miss. Weasley, when the feast is over, please could you come up to my office before you go to bed?"
They all nodded slowly, still surprised.
"Thank you," said Dumbledore and left the compartment.
Ginny looked surprised, but said nothing. All three of them had a funny feeling it was to do with Hermione.
When the train at last pulled up at Hogsmeade Station, Harry, Ron, Ginny and Lavender heaved their trunks and in some cases owl's, out of the compartment, then out of the train onto the platform. Hagrid was standing there to take the first years across the lake, but they didn't get a chance to speak to him and couldn't wave as their hands were full.
Suddenly, they saw a sight which made Ginny smile and Harry and Ron looked astonished. Hermione was walking slowly towards them, her hand lightly resting on Draco Malfoy's arm! What was more, she looked calm, relaxed even.
"What the…" Harry muttered. Ginny jabbed him painfully in the shoulder.
"Harry, quit! If Hermione's found a man she doesn't fear, don't say anything about it!"
"Ginny," said Ron furiously. "Harry and I are supposed to be her best friends, yet now she fears us! Draco's done nothing but insult her, how can she not fear him, like she fears us?"
"I don't know," said Ginny truthfully, "never the less, don't comment on it, please!"
They quickly walked up the steps, behind the Heads and other prefects. Pansy Parkinson was looking at Hermione as if she could murder her there and then. Ron caught the look and nudged the others.
"I wouldn't fancy fighting her," said Harry truthfully. "She's ugly, but she's a lot bigger than I am. Hermione will need to be careful. Shouldn't we at least say that much to her?"
"Maybe that's why Dumbledore wants to talk to us tonight," said Ginny quietly. "Something to do with Hermione and Draco. That's another thing. WE seemed to have started calling him Draco, so let's keep that up in front of Hermione, ok? I don't understand it any more than you do at the moment," this was a lie. "But please, if somehow she doesn't fear him, don't insult the one man she trusts in front of her!"
Harry and Ron both nodded. Lavender had gone up a little ahead of them, so hadn't heard this conversation.
Soon, they were in the Great Hall. Harry, Ginny, Ron and Lavender all noticed how Hermione kept looking over at Draco, who was sitting just across from her at the Slytherin table. Pansy kept trying to get his attention, but his eyes were fixed on Hermione. Every so often, they could have sworn Hermione gave him a weak smile, which Draco always returned.
"I think he knows," Ginny whispered quietly. "Don't ask me how or why, but I seriously think he knows."
"Yeah and that's why he's being so nice to her, so he can get her on her own and do what Andy did!" Harry snarled back, outraged. "If he does know, that's the last time I trust Dumbledore!"
Ron nodded fervently; Ginny however looked away.
"You're not saying you think if Draco does know Dumbledore's right to tell him?" Ron shot at his sister. She didn't answer straight away, just looked at Hermione and Draco.
"If Draco does know, it's not our place to judge it. Dumbledore knows what he's doing, so we'll have to wait and see."
Harry and Ron stared at her incredulously.
"We're her best friends, Ginny! Sure we'd know, but why the hell would Dumbledore tell that evil git what happened?"
"As I've already said," said Ginny patiently. "That's not for us to comment on. It happened to Hermione, not us, so don't start ganging up against Dumbledore's decisions. How do we know she didn't ask him to tell Draco?"
"What?" Said Harry and Ron so loudly, that people looked over at them.
"Shut up," Lavender and Ginny snapped together.
"Guys, Hermione went through a terrible ordeal, show her some damn respect and sympathy! Don't judge what she may or may not choose to do, she needs to get back on her feet and you arguing about it won't help her! WE don't know what she thinks of Draco, especially now he's lost his parents, give her a bit of respect and back off!"
Harry and Ron stared at Ginny, who was glaring at them as if she could easily hex them any second. They decided they should probably leave it be, for now. Maybe Ginny was right. Maybe that was why Dumbledore wanted to speak to them.
A few minutes later, the sorting was over and the feast had begun. Hermione wasn't eating much; her eyes were still on Draco. He was eating more than she was, but his eyes were not looking away from hers. Ginny glanced at Draco and could have sworn she saw warmth and concern on his face. She was sure, beyond most doubt, that Draco Malfoy did know what had happened. Could it be that Hermione had had secret feelings for Draco all this time? If so, she'd sure kept them well hidden! Lavender seemed to have noticed the same thing. She too glanced at Hermione and Draco, before turning to Ginny and they shared a secret smile.
After the feast, Harry, Ron and Ginny stood up. Harry headed off first for Dumbledore's office, as Ron and Ginny had to supervise the new Gryffindor first years to bed.
Harry reached the gargoyle first, where Dumbledore was standing waiting for them.
"Head up, Mr. Potter. I will be there shortly, once the others have joined you. I didn't give them the password, so I'll need to wait here for them."
Harry did as he was told and entered the circular office.
Before long, Ron and Ginny joined him and Dumbledore followed behind. Once the Gargoyle had closed and Dumbledore had closed the door and sat behind his desk, he surveyed the three before them, again with no twinkle in his eyes.
"I assume you know why I've called you three up here?" He asked.
"Is it something to do with Hermione, Sir?" Asked Ginny.
Dumbledore nodded.
"Yes Miss. Weasley, it is. I know you three are her best friends, so I want to say this simply. Don't let her down. Whatever choices or decision she makes, regarding what has happened, please stand by her one hundred percent. If you don't, or question a choice she's made just because you don't like it, you truly are not her friends."
The three of them looked at Dumbledore. Or rather, Ginny looked and gave him a small nod, Harry and Ron stared at him.
"I think I know what you're referring too, Professor," said Ginny quietly. Dumbledore nodded.
"Yes Miss. Weasley, I think you very well could do."
"Professor, if you don't mind me asking, does he know?"
"Yes Miss. Weasley, he does know. Someone very close to Miss. Granger request he be told."
Ginny nodded.
"I've seen the slip of paper, professor."
Harry and Ron looked blank. They'd only seen the first letter from Mr. and Mrs. Granger; they hadn't seen a separate piece of paper.
"Yes Miss. Weasley, I know. So you seem to be more open to understanding this than Mr. Weasley or Mr. Potter."
Harry and Ron looked straight at Dumbledore.
"I think the reason you do not know exactly what we are talking about, is because you haven't seen the paper. Neither will you, until Miss. Granger allows you. Or, you may find out another way."
"If you don't mind us asking Sir," began Harry slowly. "Does this mean that something on this paper said Hermione wanted Draco Malfoy to know what had happened to her?"
"Yes, Mr. Potter. Mr. Malfoy does know what has happened to Miss. Granger, but I can tell you no more than that, other than yes, it was on the paper. That is why I'm saying even if Miss. Granger has made a decision you don't like, don't let her down and please stand by her side."
Harry and Ron slowly nodded.
"As for her fearing you, please do not turn away from her because of this. She will unfortunately fear most men for some time to come."
"You say most, Sir?"
"Yes Mr. Potter. Most. Again, I cannot go into detail, it is not my place."
"Sir, she looked at Draco Malfoy without any fear at all. Does that mean…"
"I cannot answer you Mr. Weasley. It's not my place."
Again, Harry and Ron nodded. They had a pretty good idea of what was going on, Hermione had wanted Draco to know and for some reason she didn't fear him like most other men! She even feared them! But not Draco! Why? What had been written on that piece of paper they hadn't seen? Something they obviously hadn't been able to see, because they were men. It sucked, but there was nothing they could do about it.
They were her friends, so they were determined to stand by her side, no matter what she'd chosen to do, or who she'd chosen to tell. Ginny was right, it had been her who had been attacked, after all. Not them. They suddenly felt ashamed of the way they'd been at the table. They didn't like Draco Malfoy what so ever, but it was Hermione who'd gone through hell, not them and whatever it took to get her back on her feet, they would support. Even if it was Draco Malfoy. Even if he was involved in some way.
"Good," said Dumbledore after a short pause. He'd clearly known what they were thinking. "Unless you have any questions, that is all."
Harry, Ron and Ginny shook their heads and left the office.
As soon as they were outside, heading back down towards Gryffindor tower, Ron spoke.
"Ginny, we're sorry. Dumbledore's right. WE don't know everything, we weren't attacked, so we should try and support Hermione whatever decision she makes, to try and get her back on her feet."
Harry nodded.
"Even if Draco Malfoy is involved in some way, which he obviously is as he knows and I don't think Dumbledore made them Head's by accident."
Ron shook his head.
"So, he obviously is involved somehow, but we can't hold that against Hermione, we won't. She obviously wants it that way, so we'll stand by her side through this until the end. Dumbledore's right. We won't let her down."
It was a damp, dark Sunday morning as Draco Malfoy sat alone in Malfoy Manor, not thinking much in particular. If any emotion washed through him at all, it was relief. He didn't have to do what his father said any longer, Voldemort was dead, and he could be his own man. He was incredibly thankful that he had never joined the Death Eaters, even though his father had pushed him many times to do so. The mere fact that Lucius was such a fanatic put him off mostly.
Plus, Draco didn't much fancy being dictated to and ordered by a sick bastard who's only aim was to kill and torture, sometimes just for fun. Draco had always had this cold mask on on the outside, but he was desperate to just be himself.
When he was younger, he had been proud to do as his father commanded him. However, as he had grown older, he realised it wasn't all what it was cracked up to be.
His mother would watch, showing no emotion, on the occasions his father would beat him, threaten him, or sometimes, even use unforgivable on him. Narcissa would act almost indifferent, as if she didn't care.
Both of them were fanatical supporters of Voldemort, Draco knew this, but he didn't want to follow in their footsteps, not if he could help it.
He certainly didn't want to hate Muggle Burns. He was bought up to believe himself superior to them, to regard them as nothing but rubbish on the sole of his shoe, but now he could think for himself, he wasn't sure he wanted it that way anymore.
The end of his last year at Hogwarts had been a very strange one, as far as his emotions went. If his father could have read his mind, he would have killed him. After all he was raised to think about Muggle Burns, and then he's thinking about one this way?
Thinking back on it, Draco wasn't even sure why he felt this way towards her. She was, after all, a Mud Blood. There, see? Mud Blood, exactly what his father would have said.
He didn't know when, where and why he'd started feeling this way towards Granger, but he couldn't deny it, even to himself. It was a strange emotion; one he'd never felt before. Some people call it love. Draco used to doubt something like that actually existed. Now, he wasn't so sure.
Then there had been the final battle. His parents had been killed by members of the Order, for whom Draco had decided to fight. No one else had died from either side; they'd just died because they'd tried to threaten Draco. His teachers at Hogwarts had been a lot nicer to him than his parents had ever been and if that was what joining Voldemort was like, forget it!
Strangely enough, Draco hadn't felt much when his parents had died. Everything had been left to him, which meant he was now a very rich young man. As a child, he would have loved this fact. His father had always got him anything he wanted. However, now he hated it. His parents and their sick Master were dead, thanks to Harry Potter, so maybe he could be his own man as of now on?
It was after the final battle his feelings for Granger had really shown themselves. He'd been walking through the grounds, when Granger had caught up to him. He'd tried to act his usual cold self, keep his mask on, but then, metaphorically thrown it away. He didn't want this anymore.
They'd stood there for a long time, looking into each other's eyes. Suddenly, Hermione had reached forward and laid a gentle hand on his shoulder. Draco had been surprised, but didn't move. Instead, he found his hand gently resting on hers.
They'd walked that way through the grounds, not speaking, just looking down at the bodies on the floor. The losses from the Order's side were none existent. Harry and Voldemort had launched straight into it and Harry had managed to kill him. The Death Eaters had tried to flee, but had been captured before they could move two steps. The bodies they were walking past, were stunned Death Eaters, waiting to be taken to Azkaban. Draco had even kicked some with his foot.
Suddenly, Hermione had squeezed his shoulder gently and he had stopped.
"Draco?" She'd said quietly, looking into his eyes.
"Yeah?" Draco answered, looking straight at her.
"I'm glad you didn't join them," she'd said simply, then walked away. Draco had been too shocked to call after her, until she was out of sight.
Now, sitting here this morning, Draco found himself thinking of Hermione. Her gorgeous personality most of all. She was good looking as anything, but her personality was what drew him to her most. There was so much he'd overlooked over the last six years and he hated himself for it.
He'd been insulting a kind, charming and very clever young witch. He realised now, that he didn't deserve her. Even if they could get together now, there was no chance she'd have him, none.
Suddenly, there was a knock on his window. Draco stood up to allow the Hogwarts owl to enter. He'd pulled off the letter and opened it.
Dear Mr. Malfoy,
I am pleased to inform you that you have been made Head boy for this coming year at Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry.
You have showed us beyond doubt, that you are the Student for the job this year.
When you board the Hogwarts Express on September first, please come to the Head's compartment for further instructions.
Many congratulations,
Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts.
Draco smiled, wondering who the Head girl would be. Suddenly, as he turned over the envelope to retrieve his badge, another smaller piece of parchment fell into his hand, along with his badge.
Draco looked at it, surprised, and then read it.
Dear Mr. Malfoy,
Would it be alright with you if I visited you this morning at eleven? There is something of importance we need to talk about.
Please send your answer by return of this owl.
Yours sincerely,
Albus Dumbledore.
Draco studied the parchment for a second, then wrote yes on the back and sent it off with the owl.
He'd sat in his chair, thinking these thoughts, when suddenly there was a knock on his door. He stood up to open it.
"Good morning, Mr. Malfoy." It was Dumbledore and he looked serious.
"Good morning, Sir," Draco replied, allowing Dumbledore to enter.
They walked back into his living room and Malfoy raised his wand, causing a tray of tea and cakes to land on a small table.
"Thank you," said Dumbledore quietly. He took his cup of tea.
"Mr. Malfoy, I need to ask you to do something for me, which without, this visit will be pointless."
Malfoy looked at Dumbledore.
"Ok, Sir," he replied.
"I need to ask you to be totally honest with me. Please, will you do that? Whatever I ask you, will you answer with the truth? No matter how hard that may be for you?"
Draco looked at the Professor and finally nodded.
"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy. I need you to do that. Especially for this first question. Mr. Malfoy, am I right in thinking you don't hate Muggle Burns?"
Draco nodded. "Yes, Sir."
"Am I right in thinking it was entirely your father's pressure? The hating Muggle Burns, wanting you to join Voldemort, it was entirely your father?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Your cold, arrogant mask?"
"Yes, Sir."
"I thought as much, Dumbledore nodded. "Else you wouldn't have fought for the Order, would you? I say fought, it wasn't really much of a fight at all at the end, was it?"
Draco shook his head.
"Do you miss your parents, Mr. Malfoy?"
"No, Sir."
"I thought as much on that score too." Again, Dumbledore nodded.
"Mr. Malfoy, this may sound a personal question, but it's really important you give me an answer, if you can. I ask about Muggle Burns because I am asking about one particular one. One, Hermione Granger."
Draco couldn't help but smile at the mention of her name. Dumbledore saw this and nodded again.
"I think you pretty much gave me the answer there, Mr. Malfoy. Would I be right in thinking you have feelings for her you've been unable to show, because of your father?"
Without hesitation, Draco nodded.
"That was what I was hoping, Mr. Malfoy. You see, Miss. Granger needs your help, seriously needs your help."
Draco could not keep concern from his silver grey eyes.
"What has happened, Sir?"
"Mr. Malfoy, I have to warn you, this is not pretty. I would also ask you not to interrupt until I am through."
"Ok, Sir. I'm listening."
"Two nights ago, Miss. Granger attended a night club with some of her None Magical friends. They started off having a great time, until Andy Ellis came on the scene.
Hermione and Mr. Ellis started off just talking, everything seemed fine. Then, Mr. Ellis bought her her second drink. She was not drinking any alcohol at all that night.
Mr. Ellis spiked that drink with an illegal drug, which incapacitated Miss. Granger for enough time for Andy to do as he chose. Which was to ruthlessly rape her, in the back of his car. I know all the details, because Mrs. Granger sent me a letter with them all in this morning.
Hermione and her family have a close friend, who is also a trained Counsellor, named Andria Abort. Miss. Abort talked to her and her parents.
Hermione is not pregnant as a result of her attack, which I'm sure you can understand, is a huge relief to her.
However, while Andria told her she'd get over it in time, she would, understandably, be afraid of most men, after what had happened to her. Even her friends, those who had never hurt her at all, she would now be afraid of, as a result of the attack. She would also suffer flashbacks.
Andria however, did not tell Miss. Granger absolutely everything. She wrote this little slip of paper, that she only wants certain people to see. One of them Mr. Malfoy, is you."
Draco was furious. If he ever got his hands on that man, he was dead! How could anyone do such a thing to Hermione? To him, this just proved he had feelings for her and wasn't like his father. Lucius would have just laughed. This made him angrier.
Dumbledore saw Draco's fury and gently touched his arm. Then, he handed Draco the slip of paper. Draco read it and then slowly nodded.
"Mr. Malfoy, you are Head boy this year, Hermione is Head girl. She will not know you know, unless you choose to tell her. All I would ask Mr. Malfoy is please be close to her, please be nice to her. As you can tell from that piece of paper, you Mr. Malfoy, even more than her friends. You're the one she needs most."
Draco's arms came up gently around her, drawing her close to his chest. She felt her head rest against his shoulder.
They were sitting on the couch in the Head's common room.
"I'll never hurt you," Draco whispered to her in the darkness. She raised her head and looked into his silver grey eyes.
"Draco, you know don't you?" She asked.
"Yes," he answered gently. "That's why I say this. I will never hurt you and I am here for you, forever. I love you."
She couldn't believe what she'd just heard. Her arms tightened around him.
"I love you too," she whispered. "I need you, Draco. Save me from this, please!"
"That I will do my utmost to achieve, my darling," he answered.
Then, they kissed. Slowly, gently and lovingly. She felt his tongue gently enter her mouth, as he held her tightly to his chest. She had never felt so protected in her life.
"Hermione! You awake?"
Hermione's eyes sprang open! Damn it! She'd been having such a good dream, the dream she longed would come true!
She got out of bed slowly. She was sure she'd just heard a woman's voice the other side of the door. She quickly dressed and opened the door. Ginny was on the other side.
"Morning, Ginny." Hermione said sleepily. "How did you get in?"
"Draco let me in," Ginny replied.
At the mention of his name, Hermione's heart gave a little back flip. If anyone said Draco again, she felt like she would melt. Ginny seemed to see the look on her face and smiled. Why, Hermione wasn't sure.
"Shall we head down to breakfast, Hermione?" Ginny asked.
"Sure," said Hermione, smiling at her friend. It was one of the first smiles on her face since it happened. Ginny saw it and smiled right back.
Just then, Draco came out of his room, fully dressed. Hermione looked at him, trying to get rid of all memories of that dream. It would never happen, so she knew she had to.
"Good morning," Draco said quietly. He smiled at Hermione.
"Morning," said Hermione, her very heart rate seeming to increase. Ginny was smiling again.
"How did you sleep, Hermione?" Draco asked gently.
Hermione remembered asking Draco in the dream if he knew. He had told her he did. Could that actually be true? Hermione didn't know what she thought of that idea anymore.
"Good, thank you," she lied. In truth, she hadn't got to sleep for hours, Andy's face had not left her mind and his sneering voice had not left her ears. It had been four in the morning by the time she'd dozed off, only to go into a dream like that! It was unfair! That dream was too good to be nothing but a dream!
Draco looked into her eyes and Hermione had to look away. His eyes just made her feel so calm. If only he could be by her side at night when the flashbacks occurred…
"That's good," he answered quietly.
Hermione looked at Ginny and Ginny instantly understood what Hermione was trying to say. God I wish I could just kiss him; I love him Ginny, and I bloody love him! Help me out of this one!
Ginny smiled again.
She looked back at her friend and Hermione understood what that look meant. Maybe I don't want to help you away from love.
Hermione suddenly took a step forward and held out her hand. Draco gently took it once more. Again, Hermione shivered slightly. She looked into his silver grey eyes.
"I trust you, Draco." She murmured before she could stop herself. "I trust you."
Ginny's smile was getting wider. Andria so had to know about this!
"Thank you, Hermione." Draco said quietly. "That, you can do."
Ginny was jubilant. Andria Abort was so getting an owl tonight! Hermione trusted him, she trusted him! What was more, he was acting so damn trust-worthy!
Hermione suddenly stepped forward. Her movement was uncertain, but Draco didn't move away from her. Eventually, she was stood right in front of him. She raised her other hand and placed it on his shoulder. Very tenderly, Draco raised his other arm and placed it around her shoulders.
Ginny's smile was wider than ever. She'd come to see if Hermione and Draco were awake, extra early, hoping this would happen!
Tenderly, Draco drew Hermione against his chest. Hermione's other arm pulled Draco even closer.
"I'm here for you, Hermione. If ever you need me, just call. Understand?"
Hermione was gazing at Draco Malfoy, not quite believing what she was hearing! This was too much like her dream!
"Thank you, Draco," she said quietly, looking straight into his eyes.
"You're more than welcome," he replied, tenderly smiling at her. She smiled right back.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the portrait. It was Harry.
Hermione hated this, but as soon as he entered, she drew closer to Draco, if that was possible.
"Hi Hermione," said Harry quietly.
"Hi Harry," she replied, shakily.
"Ginny, Draco, Professor Dumbledore wants to see us in his office about some project he wants us to work on."
Ginny and Draco nodded.
"Come on, Hermione." Said Ginny brightly. "We'll walk with you down to breakfast first."
Hermione suddenly looked at her watch. They'd been up for an hour and it was only eight in the morning! Ginny had come in early, but why?
"Ok," she answered.
She'd expected Draco to release her, but he didn't let go of her until they reached the Great Hall. Then, he gently took her hand and led her through the doors! Ginny smiled as her and Harry heard gasps from within.
"Bloody hell, maybe I take back what I said about Draco not respecting what happened," Harry breathed, not quite believing his eyes. Ginny smiled.
Inside the Great Hall, Draco placed his bag on the seat next to her at the Gryffindor table.
"Look after that for me, will you? I'll be right back, Hermione."
Hermione smiled and nodded. Draco squeezed her hand, then left.
Harry, Ginny and Draco set off for Dumbledore's office, all knowing what Dumbledore wanted to speak to them about, at least, being pretty sure. Hermione. Harry's excuse of a project had been a good one, although it was partly true. Their project was Hermione's protection and wellbeing.
Dumbledore had given Harry the password the night before. When they reached the gargoyle, Harry muttered, "chocolate frog," and it sprang aside. Harry knocked and Dumbledore's voice called for them to enter.
When they did, he looked at them over his glasses and motioned for them to be seated. Ron was already sitting in the chair by the door.
"What did you say to distract Miss. Granger?"
"I told her we had a project to work on," said Harry.
"Good, Mr. Potter. Now, you know why I have called you here? Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley, I have called you here just so you know what's happening. Mr. Malfoy and Miss. Weasley, I would like a few extra words with you."
They all nodded.
"Miss. Weasley, you have achieved outstanding grades in all your subjects from last year, so I feel no unease about moving you up into this group. This is honestly partly due to your grades, but also so you can be near Miss. Granger at all times."
Ginny nodded.
"Thank you, Sir."
Harry and Ron both smiled.
"Mr. Malfoy, if you are ok with this, I would like to move you into that class also. You are already taking the same subjects as Miss. Granger; I just want to enable you to be taking them at the same time as her."
Draco nodded.
"Miss. Weasley, it just so happens you're taking the same ones also, you were just a year lower. Well now that is about to change, as we know you'll cope," he smiled kindly at her.
"So, Mr. Malfoy and Miss. Weasley will both be in the same class as Miss. Granger. Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, you won't be with her all the time as you are on different subjects some of the time, but I trust when you are with her, you will treat her with the respect and sympathy she deserves?"
"Yes, Sir," said Harry and Ron together, truly meaning it with all their hearts.
"Also, Mr. Malfoy I want to move you so you are seated at the Gryffindor table, so you can be near her at all times too."
Again, Draco nodded.
"Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, I would now ask you to leave," said Dumbledore quietly, as Harry and Ron obeyed without argument.
"Mr. Malfoy, Miss. Weasley, you have both seen the little piece of paper, I have shown it to you both. Do you understand what Miss. Abort is saying?"
They both nodded.
"Miss. Weasley, Mr. Malfoy, you are the two people Miss. Granger needs most at this point in time, probably for the rest of her life. But as for now, certainly. You are the ones who can protect her the most, comfort her and calm her down if needed. Mr. Malfoy, do you think you can see that paper through?"
Draco nodded and Ginny squeaked with delight. Dumbledore smiled at her.
"Please, if not both of you, I would ask one of you to be near her at all times. I strongly believe, this is the strongest protection I can give Miss. Granger, so please, don't prove me wrong."
They both nodded once more.
"All the teachers know what has happened, but I have asked them not to say anything to Miss. Granger. I have warned them she could possibly have a flashback in the lesson and if she gives signs that that is what is about to happen, one of you will gently lead her from the room."
Again, they agreed.
"I have even changed the seating so you, Mr. Malfoy are on one side, Miss. Weasley, you are on the other. This also applies at meals.
Ok, that is everything for now, but if Miss. Granger needs anything, please don't hesitate to tell me. Her protection is my number one priority."
Draco and Ginny smiled at the Headmaster, and then left the office.
When they got down to the Great Hall, Hermione was holding onto Draco's bag as if it was her lifeline. Gently, Draco took it from her and sat down beside her, Ginny on the other side.
Whispers broke out at once, because Draco Malfoy was on the wrong table, but one look from Professor McGonagall silenced them instantly. Pansy Parkinson was glaring across from the Slytherin table, clearly contemplating revenge.
Half an hour later, the bell rang for the start of classes.
Over the next week, classes went fine for Hermione, she was able to concentrate just as much as usual, although this probably had something to do with the fact that the man she loved was sitting right beside her.
None of the teacher's made any comment at all, although a few times, Hermione could have sworn they all gave her kind smiles when they passed her table.
Hermione had received a lot of letters from her parents and friends, asking her how she was doing. Andria wrote and told her how life was going; in fact, her letters were so full of random chat, Hermione smiled every time she received one from her amazing friend and Counsellor.
Hermione was able to do her homework as quickly as ever and with Draco by her side, was even able to start being herself around Harry, Ron and other men in Hogwarts! This to her, was a huge step back to normality. Draco was so tender, so encouraging, so amazing! Hermione wanted to kiss him and tell him she loved him so bad it hurt!
Sometimes at night, she would still have flashbacks and she even had one in class one day. She saw Andy's face in her mind, heard his voice and went white. Instantly, Ginny gently helped her up. Draco right by her side. Professor McGonagall looked up, smiled gently and sadly at them, then went straight back to the lesson.
Luckily, this one wasn't too long. Hermione cried as Draco and Ginny gently held her close.
"I fucking hate that bastard," she sobbed into their shoulders. "He's ruined my life, he's ruined me! No man will ever have me now, there's one man I'd give anything to be with, but it'll never happen!"
"Not if you speak like that it won't," said Ginny tenderly, hugging her friend close.
"If this man doesn't love you, he's even worse than the man who hurt you this summer," said Draco gently and Hermione managed to smile. At the same time, her heart did a whole backwards role!
Hermione suddenly looked at Draco. She knew this was it. This was the moment of truth.
"D D Draco?" She stammered on his name. Draco took her against him, as Ginny stepped back slightly.
"Hermione?" Said Draco tenderly, brushing some tears gently away with his thumb.
"Draco, I, I, I want to tell you what happened this summer! May I?"
Ginny smiled, thrilled! She could hardly contain it! Step one, Andria!
"Tell me anything, Hermione. Anything at all." He gently began to stroke her hair.
Hermione opened her mouth and began to speak. She told him the story of her and Andy Ellis, pretty much as Dumbledore had. Draco looked furious all over again.
Ginny, who hadn't heard the actual story up to this point, was near tears. She too, hugged Hermione tightly.
Quietly, they headed out by the lake and began to slowly walk.
"It was horrible," said Hermione, trying to hold back the tears. "He said he was going to fuck me like crazy and there was nothing I could do about it. He said tonight, I was his and he was going to have me! I remember sitting there, drinking my first coke, talking to him. No wonder he waited for an hour; he was trying to get me to fucking trust him! Bastard! I remember him on top of me in the back of his car and…" Hermione had to stop. She was shaking.
"Shah, Hermione." Said Draco gently, taking her shaking body close to his. "That's enough, don't say anymore."
"His name was Andy Ellis," Hermione finished weakly. Draco held her closer.
"They'll catch him, said Ginny gently. "At least, they will if I have anything to do with it."
Hermione managed to smile. Ginny looked furious, but was trying to keep her voice calm for her sake.
"Don't worry Ginny," said Hermione quietly. "I've done enough shouting at him; I won't stop you doing it either."
Ginny smiled slightly.
"Please," said Hermione quietly. "I don't need to ask you not to tell anyone else this, do I?"
"No!" Said Draco and Ginny together fervently. They both hugged her.
"Hermione, you don't even need to ask that question! This is between us three alone!"
Gently, Draco and Ginny helped Hermione back up to the castle and into the Great Hall just in time for lunch.
None of them had any idea that a fourth person had heard the whole conversation from the shadows.
The next day was a Saturday. Hermione's flashback had occurred during the last lesson on Friday morning. She'd managed to get through the afternoon's lessons and felt boosted by the fact she'd finally managed to tell a man what had happened! Not just any man either, the man she loved!
Professor McGonagall had been so intent on her lesson, that she hadn't noticed a fourth person slip out of the classroom, behind Hermione, Draco and Ginny.
This person meant no good to Hermione what so ever. Because she'd taken something dear to that person's heart. This person had a brilliant idea for revenge and so instead of going back to lessons that afternoon, they'd put their plan into action and watched with glee, as it had succeeded.
That morning, Ginny picked up Hermione's daily Prophet to see the headline and nearly fainted. Draco, who was on Hermione's other side, looked over quickly. Ginny looked back at him in horror. Before Draco or Ginny could say anything, Hermione had picked up the Prophet and began to read it.
Draco Malfoy's Mud Blood Mistress.
If any of us had a positive opinion of the Muggle Born Hermione Granger, that may be quickly about to change. Writes Rita Skeeter, special correspondent. It seems that there is more to this clever young witch than meets the eye.
A source, who wishes to remain unnamed, came to me yesterday and told me a fascinating story, which I know my readers will find very interesting. Bit of a wakeup call for any who thought Granger was one to admire I think.
This source told me they'd overheard a conversation between Granger, Mr. Malfoy and Miss. Weasley.
In this conversation, Miss. Granger told a very clever, well thought up story, where she was raped in the summer, by a man named Andy Ellis. How this Mr. Ellis had drugged her with an illegal substance, forced her into his car and raped her. However, I say it was well thought up, the source has provided me with a picture of the apparent Mr. Ellis. It is at the end of this article.
Miss. Granger has, over the last week or so, been getting very close to Mr. Malfoy. This infuriated my source, who says that Granger is nothing more than a filthy Mud Blood.
"All she wants from him is sex," said my source. "She doesn't care about him, she's telling him about Mr. Ellis, just to get his attention, make him feel sorry for her!"
My source declares Mr. Malfoy as being very close to them, so this is awful for them to witness.
"His father would have killed him for this," my source said over and over again.
According to my source, Hermione Granger is just a slut. It could even be possible that Mr. Ellis was the victim, not the attacker. The victim of Granger's flirtatious nature and sluttish ways.
I am not sure how my source managed to get a picture of this Mr. Ellis, seeing as he's a Muggle, but that's not important. What is important is she got us one. I suppose all we can do now, is watch Miss. Granger's behaviour carefully around Mr. Malfoy, see if he is in fact going to be her next victim.
My source does not believe Andy Ellis attacked Miss. Granger; they believe it was the other way around. After all, it would have been easy for Hermione to drug him, or even just to curse him with her wand. She is overage now after all, so there's nothing to stop her carrying and using her wand outside of Hogwarts gates.
Probably the best and smartest cause of action would be to warn Mr. Malfoy before he gets too carried away and allows the Mud Blood to use him.
Granger is doing a very realistic job though, reports my source. Apparently, she left the classroom yesterday morning, as white as a sheet and was instantly followed by Mr. Malfoy and Miss. Weasley.
For someone who's making up flashbacks, they are very convincing by all accounts. My source said they followed Mr. Malfoy, Miss. Weasley and Miss. Granger out of the classroom and heard the whole of Miss. Granger's supposedly tragic attack story.
Apparently, Mr. Ellis told Miss. Granger he was going to fuck her like crazy and there was nothing she could do about it. However, this makes us wonder whether it was actually Miss. Granger who said this to Mr. Ellis, not the other way around.
What was this drug Mr. Ellis supposedly used? If he used one, how come we didn't hear anything about it in Miss. Granger's story? Fishy, I think.
My source reports that Hermione has always been a good liar, very convincing actress.
"She's making up this story of rape, acting all upset and scared, just so she can get close to Draco, get him into her bed, so she can rape him like she did Andy Ellis!" Said my source, looking furious.
"I would appeal to you Draco," they continued. "Please don't listen to her, that's all she's trying to do, have sex with you! I would also appeal to everyone who knows Granger, don't trust her! She's devious, sly, and cunning! Should have been in Slytherin in my opinion, best house for her!
The flashbacks, everything, it's all a big made up story! Why Granger would do that, I don't know. Maybe she's lonely, no one likes her, but that's not going to help her popularity! I feel sorry for Mr. Ellis, who I actually managed to meet, very nice man, who'd never rape anybody! I met him this afternoon before coming here, managed to send him an owl, to which he responded five minutes later. He must be near here, is all I can say."
For anyone who knows Miss. Granger, I would advise them to seriously think about my sources words. Truth? Or a big made up fast to catch her next victim? Who knows? Only Miss. Granger knows the whole truth, but my sincerest warnings go to Draco Malfoy, urging him to watch out. Don't be used Draco, like Miss. Granger used Mr. Ellis.
"She's always by his side, always holding his hand, he's being so gentle to her, I'm just afraid he's on his way to being used, raped himself! I would be heartbroken if that happened, like Miss. Granger would care! I think that's her aim in the end and I don't know what to do to stop it! Draco, please consider what you've read, please take it to heart; leave Miss. Granger's side, before it's too late! Mr. Ellis, you could be very close to having a fellow victim, his name is Draco Malfoy."
Again, whether this is truth or lies, we can only speculate on. However, knowing Miss. Granger, I am more inclined to suspect the latter.
Hermione turned over the page, tears pouring down her face and sure enough, there was the picture of Andy Ellis, looking up at her. Pansy had managed to make it a wizard picture, so Andy sneered up at Hermione, as she looked into her rapists eyes.
Ginny grabbed the Prophet and hurled it across the room. Draco had grabbed another one, read it, and then done exactly the same as Ginny. Dumbledore stood up from the staff table and came straight over to Hermione's side. Draco and Ginny helped her to her feet and they walked out into the Entrance Hall.
"Hermione," said Draco gently. "I don't believe that! Do you understand?"
Hermione was shaking. Draco gently took her close to his chest and held her. Ginny and Dumbledore were looking furious.
"Sir, I have a very good idea who did this," said Ginny through gritted teeth. "Pansy Parkinson."
Dumbledore nodded, without a word. He turned to Hermione and laid a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"They will not get away with this, Miss. Granger," he said gently. "Trust me."
"I do, Sir," said Hermione quietly.
"Draco, I'm so so sorry, I don't know what to say!"
"Hermione, this is not your fault! I know who's done this and Professor Dumbledore is right! They will not get away with this, I promise you!"
Draco held her tightly to him, as Dumbledore and Ginny marched into the Great Hall.
"Do you know anything about this, Miss. Parkinson?" Dumbledore asked quietly.
"No Sir," said Pansy at once. "Not a thing.
Beside her, Crab and Goyle were sitting next to her, their faces blank. They'd not been with the Death Eaters since the final battle, so there was nothing to prove they'd ever joined them.
"You'll forgive me if I don't believe you," said Dumbledore quietly. "But I know I have no proof. You'd better watch your step, Miss. Parkinson, or you may find yourself in even more serious trouble than you are now. I am pretty sure it was you, that was a seriously cruel and nasty trick. I didn't think anyone could sink as low as this."
As soon as Dumbledore walked away, Pansy smirked at Crab and Goyle. Across the Hall, she'd noticed Harry and Ron reading the Prophet, looking furious. The number of people who would read that however, Pansy was sure it would make Hermione a lot of enemies.
However, her plan was not over. That was just the start of her revenge. She looked at Crab and Goyle, who nodded.
"Even if it is true," Pansy whispered, "I'm going to make her very sorry for taking Draco away from me. You two will help, right?"
They nodded again.
"Good. Watch out Hermione, we're going to make Andy Ellis look as tame as anything!"
It didn't take long for Pansy, Crab and Goyle to carry out Pansy's threat. They had the perfect idea of how to do it.
Firstly though, Pansy had to make sure Dumbledore wasn't looking their way. He wasn't.
As soon as they'd finished eating, they walked out of the hall to put their plans into action.
Draco, Ginny and Hermione had gone back up to the Head's Quarters; Hermione was a lot calmer now. Ginny had made her a cup of tea.
"I'm sorry," said Hermione quietly. "I shouldn't let her get to me, should I? I know it was Pansy who did this, Draco; we all know how she feels about you."
"Yes but I don't return those feelings what so ever," said Draco quietly.
This was simply killing Hermione. She really wanted to hold him, kiss him and love him! But she couldn't, she was terrified he wouldn't, didn't feel the same about her, he was just being his nice to her because of what had happened. She'd never find love now; there was no chance after what had happened. Plus, she had that stupid Daily Prophet article against her now; everyone would think she was a slut!
Suddenly, there was a knock on the portrait. Ginny opened it and Harry and Ron appeared. Instantly, Hermione stepped close to Draco. Draco put a gentle arm around her shoulders and held her close to him.
"That fucking cow!" Ron burst out angrily. "That's a pile of absolute rubbish!"
"It sure is," said Harry furiously. "Hermione, we just want you to know we don't believe that at all! Ok?"
Hermione managed to smile weakly at her best male friends.
"Thanks, guys, that means more than I can say. You're probably some of the few who won't believe it!"
"I wouldn't be so sure of that, Hermione." Said Ginny gently.
Dumbledore meanwhile, had sent a copy of the article to Hermione's parents, hoping it would bring them to Hogwarts quickly.
Hermione looked at Ginny again. This whole thing with Draco was driving her mad! She just wanted to throw herself into his arms and kiss him. Ginny looked back at her. Hermione suddenly stepped up to her friend.
"Ginny, can we go for a walk, please? Alone?"
Ginny nodded.
"Will you be alright?" Asked Draco gently.
"We'll be fine," said Ginny, smiling at him for his concern.
Harry and Ron quietly sat down on the leather sofa, as Hermione and Ginny left the room.
