Part 3 of More to The Story. It's about a family that are the key-holders and Gatekeepers between our world/Wizarding World and Middle Earth. Adventure, friendships, and love. Part 3 picks up at the beginning of The Battle of the Five Armies, with equal parts of books and movies with the crossovers. OC's and real characters.

The Company and Gatekeepers are divided. Some of the company remain in Laketown with the younger members of the Gatekeeper family. The parents and grandparents are still missing. The danger of the dragon, orcs, and greed were on everyone's minds. What would become of them? Erébor? The Wizard and Muggle world? Nothing was certain.

I do not own anything from the Hobbit or Harry Potter; only the OC's and their story. All Harry Potter/Hobbit references and characters belong to J.K. Rowling, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Peter Jackson.

Chapter 16

Nicole, Karah, and the children retreated inside the mountain to prepare the infirmary. It was dark, musty, damp. Smuag must have visited this part of the mountain at some point, as the beds and everything else inside had been smashed or burned. Both witches pulled out their wands and began cleaning and repairing the area the best they could. The children sat in a corner playing quietly with a few toys.

"I'd like to find another room for them to be in when the wounded start arriving. I don't want them to be exposed to the gore." Nicole swallowed hard knowing it would not be long before people would need medical care.

"Let's see what we have here," Karah found many doors and started searching each of them.

There were storage rooms, full of old medicines, bandages, medical supplies, linens, candle sticks, records, and so many other things. There were private treatment rooms, and even a whole chamber set up for surgeries. At the back of the room were a few other doors leading to what looked like chambers or apartments. The healing dwarves must have lived on site in order to always be ready for the sick and injured.

"What about this one?" Karah asked.

This apartment had everything. Nicole quickly cleaned everywhere the children would need access too such as the living room, bathroom, and bedroom. She would clean the kitchen and study later. It was impossible to tell how long they would be there for. They set the children up to be plenty busy while they waited and worked.

"I'm going to go check on Jordan." Karan announced. "I'm worried about her being out there alone."

"Good idea," Nicole agreed. "I think we are about as ready as we can be. Perhaps send a patronus to mother. She is probably worried and to be honest, I'm worried about them in Dale."

Jordan paced the front gate, her wand still at the ready and her hand flaming. She watched the battle commence. Seeing the dwarves rally behind Thorin instilled hope in her heart. They might actually survive or even win this war. Left and right, dwarves slain orcs and trolls. Some of the skilled warriors were able to use their opponents against each other and take them down. In the distance, she could see smoke coming from Dale.

"What's happening out there?" Karah asked coming up quietly behind Jordan.

The cousin nearly jumped out of her shoes, not expecting to hear anyone behind her. Lowering her wand and her flaming hand, we seem to have the upper hand.

"Anything get close to the gate?"

Just then, a screech from an orc sounded and one broke through the dwarf forces. Jordan did not miss a beat, sending a bolt of green light straight into the heart of the dark creature. It stopped in its tracks with a confused look on its face before crumpling to the ground.

One. Jordan's answer was as dead as the orc.

Karah worried over her cousin. What was happening to her? "Hey, are you okay?"

I promise you, I'm fine. Jordan answered curtly.

"You don't seem fine."
I'm worried about Fili, Kili, Bifur, Thorin, the company, Grandma, Grandpa, your parents, Bilbo, and Gandalf.

"Me too. I can't stop thinking about my vision." Karah remembered Nicole's request to send a patronus. She had to really concentrate on her happy memories because all she could see ahead of them was fighting and death. Last night was one of the happiest times of her life. Picking up the engagement ring from the chain around her neck, she smiled knew everything was going to be alright. With the surge of joyful emotions, she waved her wand, "Expecto patronum!" Her graceful swan flew out and waited for the message. "Mum, we are all safe. Nicole has set up the medical wing in the mountain and the children are with her. Jordan and I are standing guard over the gate or Erébor. Please be safe and send us a return patronus if you can." With another wave, she sent the swan on her way.

Is the infirmary all set?

"Yeah, Nicole is ready to help with the wounded and has the children playing in an attached apartment."

Good.

They continued to watch the fighting, occasionally helping from the distance of the gate when they felt they could aid a dwarf. It tended to startle the warriors for a moment when the orcs would immediately cease fighting and fall dead. There was not much time to ponder before they would start fighting another orc. The dwarves were valiant and ready to celebrate their victory. Until they saw another wave of orcs marching toward them.

Oh hell no! Jordan reached into her bag and pulled her broom back out and mounted.

"Where are you going?" Karah could not believe Jordon would just abandon her post.

Look! She pointed past the dwarves where at least two hundred more orcs approached. Guard the door. I'll be right back. Jordan pushed off from the ground and flew over the battle, flying east. Stopping far away from the edge of the fighting, she pointed her hand straight down at the ground and flew between the two armies. It was the largest fire she had ever set and she felt her energy drain from holding the constant magic for so long. She did not stop until long passed where the fighting took place as not to make it easy for the orcs to go around. If and when the dwarves were ready, she could put out the flames to move it to another part of the war.

No one seemed to understand what was going on or where the fire came from. The dwarves first panicked because they feared it was another dragon. Bifur was the first to recognize her and pointed her out to the rest. The company cheered and Fili felt his chest pump with pride then worry for his love. She gave them reprieve from the fighting and he was grateful, and comforted when he saw her fly back to the mountain gate and guard it as before. Everyone could hear the screeching and howling of the orcs and trolls retreating from the heat and light of the fire. The dwarf army began building their energy once again, ready to fight, and win the war.

Karah waited for Jordan to return and was jumping for joy, "You were magnificent!"

Jordan half smiled but did not put her broom way. Turning back to the fighting, she studied the scene. Karah, do you see that?

Karah looked to where she was pointing. "What's that?"

Ravenhill. Fili pointed it out to me last night. And it appears is Azog has set up base there to command his army.

"Who? Oh, right! The Pale Orc. If only we could stop him, we could beat the army."

It looks like Thorin is way ahead of you.

True enough, Thorin had taken the opportunity to start making his way to Ravenhill riding a huge mountain ram. Balin pulled up next to him driving a chariot of rams with Dwalin, Fili, and Kili. The rest of the company remained behind to take down the current wave of orcs. No one fought completely alone which ensured their victory over their opponents.

Bifur quickly came to the aid of his cousin when Bofur was knocked flat on his back. He headbutted the orc in the forehead expecting to kill the horrid creature. Only it the ax imbedded in its forehead, and the two were stuck together! The orc roared and bucked to break lose. Bofur and Bombur tried to help pull him free only it was not working. Instead, the hatted dwarf saw the edge of a small cliff and had the perfect idea.

"Push!" He commanded, and all three dwarves shoved the orc backwards off the cliff until it was dangling by the ax.

Bombur took the next step by jumping on its shoulders to force it down and breaking the orc off his cousin, taking the ax with him. He heard the bones shattering in the orcs spine and saw the dead look in its eyes and its mouth hanging open, showing its nasty black teeth and tongue.

"By Durin, Bifur! Your ax is gone!" Bifur said astonished.

Bombur spit on the dead orc before picking up the ax and brought it back to Bifur. "It's right here, cousin!"

Bifur snarled at the broken weapon. He plucked it from Bombur's hand, "you can take it and shove it right back up that orcs a…"

Nori cut him off, "Look out, lads!" He pointed his sword at the weirdest looking troll they had ever seen. It had metal peg legs with sharp spikes, the same metal spikes on a chain for its hands, and no eyes but had chains linked to its sockets that were controlled by a rider on its back. Wherever it was 'looking' it swung its massive arms slaughtering whatever was in its path.

Bofur had another idea. "Nori! Gloin! Help me fly!" He sprinted to them and they set their shields ready for him. He leaped and they sent him high in the air and he landed on the creature's arm. Climbing up it's shoulders, he flung the orc off and took its place. He laughed as he was able to change the target of the beast and killed an entire league of orcs on his own.

Gloin and Nori killed the angry orc and praised Bofur for his quick thinking. Dori also saw the minor victory and was able to pull his youngest brother out of the way just in time before he was squished by the clumsy feet. Both he and Ori were becoming success warriors and keeping track of everyone in the company. Oin surprised all of them by ditching his horn completely and using all of his other senses to fight. He felt the vibrations in the ground, his impeccable sight finding every weakness in his opponents, and his perfect coordination killing them with minimal effort. And being a healer helped him by knowing exactly where to strike.

Both Karah and Jordan watched the fighting and felt victory's favor on their side. They saw the rams taking their riders up to Ravenhill, and they desperately wanted to follow. It was hard to stand back and watch people protect you when you were full capable of helping them fight.

Suddenly a white misty elephant stampeded straight for the witches. They stumbled backwards and nearly fell over when it reared up on its hind legs and sounded her trumpet. The gentle giant was so pleased she found who she was looking for and their grandmother's voice spoke, "Thank the Four Founder that you are all safe! Karah I am so relieved to hear your voice. Your father and mother are with the wounded people of Laketown but they have decided to come back into the fight. Another army of orcs is almost here. Stay safe. We love you no matter what happens." Then the elephant disappeared.

Conflicted thoughts and emotions ate at Karah. Everyone was fighting or guarding except for her. She was sitting back and doing nothing but watching and waiting. Kili was expecting her to stay in the mountain, but her vision would not leave her mind.

Jordan studied her cousin who seemed unsure of what to do. I'm ready when you are. She stated, still holding on to her broom.

"But I promised to stay here."

He'll get over it.

Karah nodded, "I'll be right back."

Jordan watched her cousin return inside the mountain and head for the infirmary. Turning back to the fighting, she saw the dwarves gaining the upper hand on the fighting, the orc army slowing diminishing. Every now and then, an orc broke through the ranks and Jordan easily eliminated it. She decided it was time to make some repairs and put the majestic stone gate back to its original state before Smaug destroyed it.

Karah returned with her bag over her shoulder and her broom in her hand. "Nicole knows. Let's fly!"

They kicked off from the ground and followed Bofur as he controlled the giant ugly troll over to a frozen river. He attacked another orc-troll creature that was trying to kill something in the river. The witches flew closer and saw it was the chariot with Balin, Dwalin, Fili and Kili.

Fili praised from the fleeing chariot, "Bofur, you beauty!"

Bofur was quite pleased with himself for being able to distract the orc-troll. He managed to disorient it enough but it came back swinging. He continued the battle until both trolls were dead but he went flying off his chair and was headed for the ice. He closed his eyes braced himself for impact but it never came. He opened them and saw himself dangling inches from the frozen surface. Karah had caught him with magic.

Good catch! Jordan cheered.

Bofur was grateful for the moment, then angry. "What do you lassies think you're doing?"

Karah was having none of it. She set him down then landed right next to him. "Climb on, Bofur! We don't have time for this!"

The hatted dwarf muttered under his breath before getting on the broom behind her. "Take me back to Bombur and Bifur. Then you both will go back to the mountain!"

Jordan's resting boss face was fully in place. Nope. She flew off to follow the chariot, leaving Karah to see to Bofur.

Karah agreed, and took Bofur back to the main battle first. She was about to kick off again when Bifur came stomping over to them.

"What do you think you're doing?" Bifur practically shouted in common tongue.

Karah was so stunned that she could understand him she nearly did not notice his ax was missing. "Bifur, your a…"

He cut her off, "I know it's gone! What are you doing out here? You are supposed to be in the mountain!"

Karah kicked off from the ground and hovered for a moment. "I'm sorry, Bifur. But we can't sit back any longer. We are going to Ravenhill to kill Azog. Jordan is right behind Thorin."

The remaining original company all watched her fly way. Looking between one another, they all decided to join her.

Jordan was catching up with the chariot and can see wargs chasing it as well. A few times, she had to dodge or shield herself from oncoming arrows someone in the chariot was shooting at the beasts. One by one, the wargs were falling. Then suddenly, the chariot stopped moving, but the arrows still flew, until those too eventually stopped. And more wargs came. Jordan shot green light at every one of them, until she was in range of the chariot. She thought it was empty until Balin jumped out with sword and shield in hand.

"By Durin! Jordan!" Balin could not believe his eyes. He was so happy to see her and in awe of her flying.

Need a lift? Jordan asked with a smirk, and they flew on to Ravenhill.

Balin would have laughed the whole way as he enjoyed the flight on the backs of the eagles as well as on the broom. If they lived through this war, he was going to ask Jordan or Karah to take him on a flight around the mountain. He guided her where to fly in order to stay out of sight of the enemy. There was a trail of dead orcs that led them right in the middle of another battle. Dwalin, Thorin, and Bilbo were fighting a legion of goblin mercenaries in the center of a ruined Ravenhill. They were almost done with a few goblins remaining. As soon as they landed, Jordan killed them all with a blast of fire and an explosion from her wand.

"Jordan!" Thorin called with relief. He was happy to see her almost completely normal.

Dwalin ran to his older brother, hugged him, and headbutted him for good measure.

"Thorin! We have to get out of here, remember?" Bilbo begged, "the second army is almost here!"

Just as they were about to call for Fili and Kili, Thorin's words died on his lips. He looked across the frozen river at the crumbling towers and saw a light growing from inside. A shadow came over the light and Azog appeared with other orcs. He was dragging something much smaller and struggling against him. Thorin and the rest ran to the edge of river to get a better look.

Azog puffed his chest and lifted Fili in front of him to dangle over the ledge. In his horrible black speech, "The heir will die first, then the spare. Then you, Oakenshield."

Jordan was already on her broom and flying toward the Pale Orc. She raised her wand as he lifted his nub arm with a blade imbedded into it. He smiled and heckled, and was just about to run Fili through, he paused. He saw Jordan flying straight for him.

Lowering his hand, he commanded to his orcs, "capture her!"

Jordan did not hesitate and wanted him to feel the pain before she killed him. Secumsempra.

Her aim was perfect as the magic sliced Azog's face and he howled in pain. Quickly regaining his composure, he stabbed Fili then dropped him. Jordan was not as quick this time, and Fili fell three stories down to the stone ground, right at Kili's feet. Still in the air, she saw him hit the ground, hearing him break many bones, and he did not move.

Back at the tower, Azog had retreated deeper inside to see to his injuries. The remaining orcs were stunned and not sure of what to do, and fear of the flying woman. They understood the command, but how to capture her was a different kind of task. Until she slowly came to them. They would have started gnashing their teeth and screeching their pleasure that their prey was willing coming to them. Until they saw her black eyes, her skin covered in black speech, fire building in one hand. When she landed, they all just stared at her, wide-eyed and afraid.

Jordan's dead smile grew on her face, Bombarda Maxima. The whole tower exploded in fire and rock, flattening the ledge and leaving nothing but a cursed witch who resembled more of a demon than a human. Jordan allowed the curse to completely consumer her. Her mind and heart had finally shattered at seeing Fili die right in front of her. It was not the first time she had succumbed to this black hole, but it was going to be the last. She would not come back from this, and she was going to kill the orc who pushed her to this point, and then fulfill her mission.
