EPISODE 7 "Ho'apono" (Accept)

Part 5

"Quiet," Graham shouted at one of the hostages in the pilothouse as Steve approached from higher ground, gun drawn.

"Graham, it's McGarrett," he announced once he'd gone around towards the door, Ed following him every step of the way. "We need to talk."

"I should have figured you'd get out," Graham shouted in an agitated fashion.

"I said I believe you," Steve said, "I don't think you killed your wife. Okay? With a little more time, my team is gonna be able to prove that, Graham," he said.

"How?" the SEAL demanded.

"Let's free those people so we can talk."

"You're lying!" he roared, shooting at the glass in front of him to create a window.

"I need my pack," Steve told Ed. "This has gone on way too long. It ends now."

"We found Noreen's passport in her safe-deposit box," Chin brought her image up on the table. "She was born Irina Tarasova in Russia, 1979."

"I just finished translating this thing," Mitch strolled into the briefing room with a pile of paper and the leatherbound journal. "For the record, I was right," she looked a Chin.

"It was Noreen's journal. Most of it's about her life in Russia. She was married to a banker and it was pretty brutal," she said. "Multiple counts of domestic violence. Real piece of work," she said.

"We got an ID on him too," Chin said.

"Yegor Chubais," she said with the proper Russian pronunciation as he pulled up his image on the table. "Vice president of Donvaya Bank in Switzerland," she said.

"Yeah," Chin affirmed with a sharp nod. "He filed a report saying his wife and newborn child went missing on a trip abroad."

"That's him," Kono said suddenly.

"That's who?" Mitch asked, her eyes narrowing almost comically.

"That's the guy that kidnapped Lily," she said.

"Chubais came into Hawaii three days ago," Chin found out. "He's chartered a plane to Moscow. It leaves in an hour."

"He's trying to flee with Lily," Kono put together. "That's why he came to Hawaii.

"She starts a new life to get away from him," Mitch began.

"Somehow he finds out where she is," Danny said.

"Noreen wouldn't go with him," Mitch continued.

"Son of a bitch kills the mother of his daughter," Kono shook her head.

"He's not getting on that plane," Mitch said, jumping into action, "especially not with that little girl," the others followed after her. "Come on."

Steve saw Graham leave the hostages.

He positioned Ed by the door and traveled up a level, grabbing the smoke bomb out of his bag and the mask, which he pulled over his head and yanked the strings to keep it tight. Then he jumped off the railing onto a small ledge and tossed in the smoke bomb, filling the pilot's house with thick greyish green smoke.

Immediately the hostages began to cough, so Ed opened the door for them. "Okay, come on, everybody. Let's get moving," he ushered them out as Steve leaped down inside. "Come on."

He traveled quickly through the house towards the room Graham had been, but when he got there and opened the door, Graham popped out behind him, briefly touching his gun to the back of Steve's head.

"Don't you move."

"McGarrett's not answering," Kono said as they drove.

"Dammit, Steven," Mitch cursed. "Try him again."

"Don't answer," Graham ordered Steve, now maskless as he forced him out of the pilot's house into a corner.

"This could be news that proves your innocence, Graham," Steve looked at the other man. "Let me take the call."

"Put it on speaker," Graham pointed at him. "No tricks."

So Steve did.

"Finally," Mitch's voice rang through. "There you are."

"Go ahead," Danny said.

"We're on speaker with Graham," Steve said. "Tell me you got the guy who did this."

"Not exactly," Mitch said honestly, riding shotgun next to Danny. "But we got a name and location. We're on our way to get him right now."

"Who is it, Mitch?" Steve asked.

"Name is Yegor Chubais," she said.

"Lily's father," Danny said.

"That's impossible," Graham shook his head, eyes squeezed shut. "He's dead."

"We ID'd him coming out of Honolulu Airport three days ago," Danny added.

"Yegor is dead," Graham asserted. "Noreen told me that he had died of cancer. Why would she lie to me?"

"I don't know, Graham. I don't know," Steve admitted. "Maybe she was trying to protect you from a past that she's ashamed of," he said, "But if my team says that this is the guy, this is the guy."

"You're lying," they heard Graham yell on the other side of the phone.

"McGarrett?" Danny asked as Mitch said, "Steve?"

Neither received an answer.

"On your knees," Graham told Steve.

"Graham."

"Get on your knees. Hands behind your head."

"That's them," Chin pointed out as the tires squealed against the pavement. The plan was just ahead, but there was a fence in the was

"All right, hold on," Danny said, speeding up and driving right through the weakly linked fence, driving up behind the slowly speeding plane and past it. Mitch resisted the urge to curse loudly and a lot as Danny pulled the car around directly in front of the plane and into a hard stop forcing it to come to a standstill only a few feet from the hood of the car.

"Hands up," Danny demanded of the men who exited the plane. "Get down. Down on the ground. Arms out. Make a T. Get down."

"On the ground, face down," Chin added.

"That means you, asshole," Mitch prodded Yegor. "On the ground. Palms up. Cross your legs."

"Hey," Kono rushed ahead, grabbing Lily as she exited the plane and hugging her. The little girl hugged back. "You're safe now, okay?"

"Let me take you in," Steve said from his place on the ground, hands behind his head. Still, his voice never wavered. "Graham, we can still work this out."

"We argued and I went for a walk," Graham said.

"Yeah."

"Two laps around the block," he continued, his voice shaking.

"We got the guy, Graham," Steve said. "You heard them. It was Yegor."

"What if I didn't take that walk at all?" Graham growled, shaking his head behind Steve, gun still drawn. "What if I really killed Noreen?"

"You didn't kill her, Graham," Steve said. "Yegor did it. Yegor killed her. This is over. You hear me? This is over, Graham." As soon as he said the words, he heard, then saw a too-heavy-footed SWAT member approach, taking aim at Graham. "No!" he shouted.

Graham shot back, the SWAT member missing by a mile as Graham pushed Steve forward.

"McGarrett," Ed burst through the pilot's house door as the gun fired.

"Look out!" Steve shouted at the old man. "Get back!"

Ed shouted clutching at his arm as the SWAT members shot hit him instead of Graham who quickly moved out of the range of fire and down a flight of stairs, only to find himself surrounded.

"Freeze!" one cop shouted. "Put your weapon down slowly and get on the ground.

"Now, Graham," another demanded. "Drop your weapon. Drop your weapon now!"

Graham adjusted his grip on his gun, but before any move could be made, McGarrett appeared from the side and tackled the other SEAL to the ground, yelling. "Ceasefire! Ceasefire!" as SWAT began shooting at the movement.

Graham held up his hands as Steve moved off of him and SWAT moved into the area to cuff and arrest him. The threat taken care of Steve rushed up up a flight to see to Ed. "You okay?" he laid a hand on the older man's good shoulder.

"Getting shot hurts," the old man smiled.

"What were you thinking?"

"Well," he said, looking at Steve, "leave no man behind."

"Is that right?" Steve nodded and shook his head. "Well, you're crazier than I thought," he smiled. Ed grinned, laughing heartily despite the gunshot wound.

"Come on. Hey, hold up," Steve said, jogging up to the SWAT members escorting Graham as he noticed Mitch and Kono walking with the little girl, Lily, up ahead. Chin and Danny following up behind them. "Give him a minute with his daughter, will you? No cuffs."

SWAT nodded and uncuffed the former SEAL.

"Go ahead," Steve told Graham as Mitch elbowed Kono and pointed to the man in the blue collared shirt, Steve and SWAT behind him.

"Look who that is," Kono said to Lily, crouching down to her level and pointing out her father.

"Daddy!" the little girl shouted, racing forward. He jogged towards her, kneeling down to her level and hugging her tightly to his chest as she cried. "Daddy, can we go home now?"

"Not yet, baby," he said sadly, brushing the hair from her face. "All right? Auntie Susan is gonna watch you for a little while, okay? Daddy's just a little bit sick. He has to get better, okay?"

Graham looked up, still holding Lily as McGarrett passed him, walking up to the tall tan women with the long ponytail, white tank top, and tattoos. She punched him squarely in the chest as the others around them muffled their laughter. "You asshole!" she snapped at him. "You could've died at least three times today!"

He only smiled and draped his arm over her shoulders, pulling her tight into his side.
